Evaluation of Ocular Higher-Order Aberrations in Patients with Migraine: A Comparative Study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess and compare higher-order aberrations (HOAs) in migraine patients versus healthy controls, and to explore potential correlations between aberrometric parameters and migraine characteristics. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 99 migraine patients (32 episodic and 67 chronic) and 99 age- and sex-matched controls. Comprehensive ophthalmologic examinations and wavefront aberrometry (using Huvitz HRK-8000A Autorefractor/Keratometer based on a Hartmann-Shack principle) were performed on all participants. HOAs, including spherical aberration, coma, trefoil,

Comparison of Ocular Wavefront in Seated and Supine Positions Using a Hand-Held Hartmann-Shack Aberrometer.

Background/Objectives: Intraoperative aberrometry has gained clinical relevance in correcting aberrations during cataract and corneal refractive surgeries. As wavefront aberrations are typically measured with patients seated, while surgeries are performed supine, this study aimed to compare ocular aberrations between seated and supine positions, using a hand-held Hartmann-Shack aberrometer. Methods: Total ocular wavefront aberrations were measured five times consecutively from cyclopledged eyes for a 6 mm pupil, under three conditions: (1) seated with a holder-fixed mode (reference), (2) seate

PURPOSE: To evaluate the intrasession repeatability and validity of corneal curvature measurements provided by a new multifunctional device and to assess the intrasession repeatability of its ocular aberrometric measures. METHODS: This prospective study comprises 37 mild to moderate keratoconus eyes of 37 patients. In all cases, 3 repeated measures of corneal topography and ocular aberrometry were performed with the iDesign 2 system (iD2; Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc, Jacksonville, FL) and one keratometric measurement was performed with the intraocular lens-(IOL) Master 500 (Carl Zeiss M

Factors Associated With Residual Astigmatism After Toric Intraocular Lens Implantation Reported in an Online Toric Intraocular Lens Back-calculator.

PURPOSE: To evaluate factors associated with residual astigmatism after toric intraocular lens implantation based on data from an online toric intraocular lens (IOL) back-calculator. METHODS: This was a retrospective data review of an online toric IOL back-calculator, which allows users to input preoperative toric planning information and postoperative lens orientation and refractive results. These data were used to determine the optimal orientation of the IOL to minimize residual refractive astigmatism. Aggregate data were extracted from this calculator to investigate factors associated with

Repeatability and Reproducibility of Virtual Subjective Refraction.

PURPOSE: To establish the repeatability and reproducibility of a virtual refraction process using simulated retinal images. METHODS: With simulation software, aberrated images corresponding with each step of the refraction process were calculated following the typical protocol of conventional subjective refraction. Fifty external examiners judged simulated retinal images until the best sphero-cylindrical refraction and the best visual acuity were achieved starting from the aberrometry data of three patients. Data analyses were performed to assess repeatability and reproducibility of the virtu

Does the Accuracy and Repeatability of Refractive Error Estimates Depend on the Measurement Principle of Autorefractors?

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy and repeatability of refractive errors obtained using three autorefractors based on different measurement principles, vis-à-vis, gold-standard retinoscopy. METHODOLOGY: Accuracy of noncycloplegic, sphero-cylindrical refractive error of 234 eyes was obtained using the rotary prism-based RM-8900 closed-field autorefractor, photorefraction based Spot vision screener, wavefront aberrometry based E-see, and streak retinoscopy by four different examiners, masked to the results of each other. Intersession repeatability of autorefractor

Evaluation of the impact of persistent subepithelial corneal infiltrations on the visual performance and corneal optical quality after epidemic keratoconjunctivitis.

PURPOSE: Aim was to measure the effect of persistent subepithelial corneal infiltrates (SEIs) after epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) on visual performance and corneal optical quality. METHODS: We examined 53 patients divided into two groups. Patients with previous EKC constituted the study group (Group 1, n: 27). Healthy age matched subjects constituted the control group (Group 2, n: 26). Study group was subdivided into eyes with SEI (Group 1A, 40 eyes) and healthy fellow eyes (Group 1B, 14 eyes). Patients were submitted to a complete examination including high- and low-contrast visual acu

[Relationship between high-order aberrations and age and between high-order aberrations and refraction errors].

PURPOSE: To evaluate the relationship between high-order aberrations and refractive errors, and between high-order aberrations and age. METHODS: An analytic retrospective study of patients that underwent aberrometry examination was conducted. All subjects examined with LadarWave aberrometer at the Hospital de Olhos do Paraná from April 2004 to April 2005 were included in this study. The major inclusion criterion was 20/20 or better - corrected or not - visual acuity; and the major exclusion criterion, the presence of previous eye surgery or disease. The following variables were analyzed: age,

Transepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking using iontophoresis versus the Dresden protocol in progressive keratoconus: A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Standard epithelium-off collagen cross-linking using Dresden protocol (S-CXL) is the standard of care for progressive keratoconus. Despite its efficacy, epithelial debridement is associated with pain, delayed visual rehabilitation, stromal oedema and haze. Minimising these complications while achieving a comparable efficacy remains an unmet need. METHODS: Comparative studies between transepithelial iontophoresis-assisted CXL (I-CXL) and S-CXL reporting the outcomes of visual, refractive, topographic, aberrometry, demarcation line, endothelial cell density, confocal microscopy or c

Clinical evaluation of toric intraocular lens implantation based on iTrace wavefront keratometric astigmatism.

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is no standard technique for determining corneal astigmatism. The iTrace wavefront aberrometry of cornea calculated steep power and axis based on the best Zernike mathematical fit from all topo data within 4 mm circle. It was supposed to be more accurate than iTrace simulated keratometry which was calculated based on only 4 points on the circle of 3 mm. This aim of this study was to evaluate visual outcomes and rotational stability after toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation using the wavefront aberrometry of the cornea with iTrace. SETTING: Single site in Chi
