Quantitative assessment of dose accumulation uncertainty using a commercial deformable image registration algorithm in adaptive intensity-modulated proton therapy for prostate cancer.

INTRODUCTION: This work aims to quantify the dose accumulation uncertainty for prostate adaptive intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT). METHODS: Pelvic CT images from ten prostate patients with 6 repeat CT (rCT) scans were selected. The reference DVFs (DVFref) were generated by performing DIR between planning CT (pCT) and rCTs using a reference DIR algorithm. Pseudo-rCTs were created by deforming pCT to rCTs using the DVFref. An IMPT plan was created for each patient on pCT, which was recalculated on each pseudo-rCT. The fractional dose was warped back to pCT using DVF (DVFtest) generated

Economical-environmental-technical optimal power flow solutions using a novel self-adaptive wild geese algorithm with stochastic wind and solar power.

This study introduces an enhanced self-adaptive wild goose algorithm (SAWGA) for solving economical-environmental-technical optimal power flow (OPF) problems in traditional and modern energy systems. Leveraging adaptive search strategies and robust diversity capabilities, SAWGA distinguishes itself from classical WGA by incorporating four potent optimizers. The algorithm's application to optimize an OPF model on the different IEEE 30-bus and 118-bus electrical networks, featuring conventional thermal power units alongside solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind power (WT) units, addresses the rising

A novel adaptive extended Kalman filter algorithm driven by time-frequency Gaussian mixture model for accurate AO and AC detection based on portable seismocardiography.

Objective.Seismocardiography (SCG) contains rich physiological information about the structure and function of the heart, providing a new dimension for early screening and dynamic monitoring of cardiovascular diseases. However, SCG is relatively weak, susceptible to severe external interference, even has strong individual differences in morphology, making it difficult for traditional algorithms to accurately detect AO, AC and other core features.Approach.Herein, Combining the time-frequency joint distribution characteristics of SCG, we improve a novel adaptive extended Kalman filter (KF) algor

A 'shape-orientated' algorithm employing an adapted Marr wavelet and shape matching index improves the performance of continuous wavelet transform for chromatographic peak detection and quantification.

A new 'shape-orientated' continuous wavelet transform (CWT)-based algorithm employing an adapted Marr wavelet (AMW) with a shape matching index (SMI), defined as peak height normalized wavelet coefficient ( [Formula: see text] ) for feature filtering, was developed for chromatographic peak detection and quantification. Exploiting the chromatographic profile of a candidate peak, AMW-SMI algorithm emphasizes more on the matching of the overall chromatographic profile to a reference Gaussian shape, while partly alleviates the requirement on the signal intensity derived from single or several data

Performance Evaluation of Ultrasound Images Using Non-Local Means Algorithm with Adaptive Isotropic Search Window for Improved Detection of Salivary Gland Diseases: A Pilot Study.

Speckle noise in ultrasound images (UIs) significantly reduces the accuracy of disease diagnosis. The aim of this study was to quantitatively evaluate its feasibility in salivary gland ultrasound imaging by modeling the adaptive non-local means (NLM) algorithm. UIs were obtained using an open-source device provided by SonoSkills and FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe. The adaptive NLM algorithm automates optimization by modeling the isotropic search window, eliminating the need for manual configuration in conventional NLM methods. The coefficient of variation (COV), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and

Assessing cardiovascular risk in rheumatoid arthritis patients on Janus kinase inhibitors: real-world data from the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology-adapted CUORE risk algorithm.

Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) are effective treatments for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but growing evidence raises cardiovascular (CV) safety concerns. Given the elevated baseline CV risk in RA, appropriate risk stratification is essential. We retrospectively analyzed 116 RA patients treated with JAKi at the University of Naples Federico II (2020-2025), excluding those with previous CV events. Cardiovascular risk was assessed using the CUORE algorithm, adjusted with the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology-recommended 1.5 multiplication factor. Patients were stratified into low (

Prognosis assessment of persistent left bundle branch block after TAVI by an electrophysiological and remote monitoring risk-adapted algorithm: rationale and design of the multicentre LBBB-TAVI Study.

INTRODUCTION: Percutaneous aortic valve replacement (transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)) notably increases the likelihood of the appearance of a complete left bundle branch block (LBBB) by direct lesion of the LBB of His. This block can lead to high-grade atrioventricular conduction disturbances responsible for a poorer prognosis. The management of this complication remains controversial. METHOD AND ANALYSIS: The screening of LBBB after TAVI persisting for more than 24 hours will be conducted by surface ECG. Stratification will be performed by post-TAVI intracardiac electrophysiol

Deep Learning Image Reconstruction Improves Image Quality in Dual-Low Dose Dual-Energy CT Portal Venography Compared to Adaptive Iterative Image Reconstruction Algorithm-Veo.

BACKGROUND: Deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) has gained recognition as a promising technique to improve image quality in low-dose CT imaging. However, its performance in dual-energy CT portal venography (DE-CTPV), particularly under reduced contrast medium volume and radiation dose (dual-low dose) conditions, remains underexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare the performance of DLIR and adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR-V) in DE-CTPV, with a focus on image quality across multiple vascular segments of the portal venous (PV) system under dual-low dose protoc

Using Segment Anything Model 2 for Zero-Shot 3D Segmentation of Abdominal Organs in Computed Tomography Scans to Adapt Video Tracking Capabilities for 3D Medical Imaging: Algorithm Development and Validation.

BACKGROUND: Medical image segmentation is crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning in radiology, but it traditionally requires extensive manual effort and specialized training data. With its novel video tracking capabilities, the Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) presents a potential solution for automated 3D medical image segmentation without the need for domain-specific training. However, its effectiveness in medical applications, particularly in abdominal computed tomography (CT) imaging remains unexplored. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the zero-shot performance of SA

Clinical Effectiveness of an Adaptive Treatment Planning Algorithm for Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy Versus 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy for Node-Positive Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Regional Nodal Irradiation/Postmastectomy Radiation Therapy.

PURPOSE: Clinical trials support adjuvant regional nodal irradiation (RNI) after breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy for patients with lymph node-positive breast cancer. Advanced treatment planning techniques (eg, intensity modulated radiation therapy [IMRT]) can reduce dose to organs at risk (OARs) in this situation. However, uncertainty persists about when IMRT is clinically indicated (vs 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy [3DCRT]) for RNI. We hypothesized that an adaptive treatment planning algorithm (TPA) for IMRT adoption would allow OAR constraints for RNI to be met when 3DCRT
