We present a rare case of renal metastasis of a recurrent pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland in an elderly woman. Metastasising pleomorphic adenoma shows malignant clinical behaviour, and although it appears histologically benign, there may be unknown molecular features that determine its unusual ability to spread.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common type of all benign and malignant salivary gland tumors, involving more frequently the parotid gland. It is a benign tumor with a slow and continuous growth that without treatment can reach an enormous size. We present a case of a giant pleomorphic adenoma in a 78-year-old man with a history of more than 30 years of a growing lesion in the parotid gland. Clinical examination revealed a giant mass on the right side of the face, however without any sign of facial nerve damage. The tumor was completely resected by total parotidectomy and preservation of the f

Neoplasms of salivary glands represent a small group among the diseases involving the head and neck complex. In this group, the pleomorphic adenoma is the most frequent neoplasm, yet involves the submandibular gland in only 12.3% of cases. A patient presenting a swelling in the region of the submandibular gland was submitted to an incisional biopsy, where a fragment of the gland and one juxtaposed node were removed. Histologically they were defined as pleomorphic adenoma. Later, the patient was submitted to submandibulectomy and two other nodes were found close to the gland and removed. All sp

Pleomorphic adenoma of the external auditory canal is a rare disease. It is considered to derive from the ceruminous glands. The objective of this study is to familiarize the clinician with the clinical presentation and treatment of this disease. We report the case of a 58-year-old woman. Complete resection should be applied for cases in which magnetic resonanace imaging (MRI) and computerize tomography (CT) examination indicate no erosion in the bone and cartilage tissue. The patient should be seen regularly for recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Surgery of recurrent pleomorphic adenoma presents an increased risk of facial nerve injury and a considerable re-recurrence rate.
METHODS: A series of 33 patients with first recurrence of pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland was analyzed. The data were derived from medical records as well as from interviews and clinical examinations of all living patients. Histologic material of the initial and recurrent tumor were reviewed.
RESULTS: Multifocal recurrence and carcinoma in pleomorphic adenoma were observed in 73% and 9% of patients, respectively. The incidence of permanent par

Giant pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm of salivary glands, specially of parotitis. Less frequently derives from minor salivary glands and, in the case, its size is small. We report one case of pleomorphic adenoma of great mass seated in a palatine salivary gland and avail the opportunity to review these sort of tumors.

Minor salivary gland tumors represent about 10-15% of salivary gland tumors. The most frequently seen histological type are pleomorphic adenomas, which are usually located at the hard palate. Clinical and pathological features of 7 cases are reviewed.

Pleomorphic adenomas (PAs) are the most common benign salivary gland tumors but rarely present in ectopic locations. When ectopic PAs occur in the head and neck, they most often arise from minor salivary gland tissue of the oral or nasal cavities. PAs of the external nose are exceedingly rare, and this is the first report of a PA arising from the nasal bridge. Here, we report a case of an African American man in his mid-20s with no pertinent medical history who presented with a slowly enlarging left nasal bridge mass that had grown over the past two to three years. Initially attributed to prio

Pleomorphic adenoma of the trachea is a rare benign tumor, often challenging to diagnose due to nonspecific symptoms. We report a case of a 72-year-old female with a 10-year history of presumed bronchial asthma, presenting with persistent dyspnea. Preoperative assessment for breast cancer surgery revealed severe obstructive ventilatory impairment. Further investigation with chest CT and bronchoscopy identified an intratracheal nodule, which was successfully resected using electrocautery and cryotherapy via rigid bronchoscopy. Pathological examination confirmed pleomorphic adenoma. Following th

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most prevalent benign tumor of the salivary glands, characterized by both epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. It primarily originates within the parotid and submandibular glands, with only rare occurrences in the minor salivary glands. PA in the sinonasal area is extremely rare. Herein, we present a case of a 61-year-old female with a large soft tissue mass in the paranasal sinus and nasal cavity, as evidenced by computed tomography imaging. The patient suffered from repeated nasal congestion for more than 6 months. Eventually, the mass was completely re

Chronic granulomatous inflammation occurs rarely alongside pleomorphic adenomas of the major salivary glands but would not appear to have been reported with lacrimal gland adenomas. We describe the clinical features, imaging and histopathology for 4 patients (3 female) who had granulomatous inflammation alongside lacrimal gland adenomas-the patients being with age 39, 44, 48, and 53 years at time of surgery. One patient had an asymptomatic lesion found on imaging, and the other 3 had symptoms for between 3 years and several decades. Conjecturally, this rare phenomenon might arise from an infla

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common salivary gland neoplasm, and its diagnosis is straightforward in the majority of cases. However, not infrequently, PA shows unusual and uncommon histological features that can be confused with those of malignancy. The difficulties in diagnosing PA arise from its ability to mimic invasion, show atypical or metaplastic cytomorphology, and show morphological features that overlap with those of established salivary gland carcinomas. In addition, recognising early malignant transformation to carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma continues to be a frequent chal

Pleomorphic adenoma is a common benign salivary gland tumor which presents as a painless swelling that gradually increases in size, if left untreated. It is often seen involving the parotid gland. However, pleomorphic adenoma has been reported to involve the minor salivary glands as well. In this report, we present two cases of pleomorphic adenoma originating from minor salivary glands of the upper lip, occurring in two male patients of the same age (44 years) with markedly similar history of duration, size, and site of the lesion. The tumor was excised in both patients and sent for histopatho

A 56-year-old man who was recently diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor of the os petrosum was referred for a Ga-DOTA-TOC PET/CT scan. Besides the moderately increased Ga-DOTA-TOC accumulation in the carcinoid tumor, the scan showed strongly increased and focal Ga-DOTA-TOC uptake in an additional lesion in the right parotid gland. The markedly different Ga-DOTA-TOC avidity suggested a different etiology, and histological examination demonstrated a pleomorphic adenoma.

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign tumor of major or minor salivary glands. PA exhibits a great histological diversity, such as differentiation into oncocytic, sebaceous, mucinous, squamous, chondroid, osseous or adipose cells. Squamous metaplasia rarely results in the formation of extensive keratin-filled cyst lined by squamous epithelium. Extensive squamous metaplasia can be mistaken for malignancy, including mucoepidermoid carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Here, we report a case of slowly enlarging PA with extensive squamous metaplasia and keratin cyst formations in a m

INTRODUCTION: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign salivary gland tumor, frequently affecting the major salivary glands but also the palatal or labial minor salivary glands. Pleomorphic adenomas affecting the retromolar trigone have seldom been reported with only few cases described in the literature.
OBSERVATION: We present the case of a young female patient who presented with this rare localization of pleomorphic adenoma and its subsequent management.
DISCUSSION: Pleomorphic adenoma of the retromolar trigone is a rare occurrence. Nevertheless, when faced with a swelling of th
