The authors followed up 123 patients with carcinoma of the gastric stump. In this report 39 patients were analysed with carcinoma that developed after stump resection for gastric ulcer or polyps; 35 were operated on including 20 radical operations. The authors conclude that in residual and recurrent carcinoma of the gastric stump as well as in diffuse and mixed initial carcinoma stump extirpation should be the method of choice. For primary exophitic growing and especially in old and weakened patients it is more advisable to perform subtotal resection than stump extirpation.

A 6-year-old castrated male domestic ferret (Mustela putorius furo) with a 4-week history of intermittent diarrhea and straining during defecation had an intraluminal mass in the descending colon identified by abdominal ultrasound. The histopathological diagnosis of the resected mass was an adenomatous polyp of the colon. No post-operative complications were identified over a 32-month follow-up period.

BACKGROUND: Submucosal pseudoinvasion and squamous metaplasia (SM) are incidental and special morphological findings in colorectal adenomas, and both can mimic invasive carcinoma. The coexistence of these two findings further increases the risk of misdiagnosis, posing a great diagnostic challenge to pathologists. From 1979 to 2022, only 8 cases have been reported, which was extremely rare. In this report, we presented a case of sigmoid colon adenoma accompanied by pseudoinvasion and SM. Additionally, relevant literature was analyzed to summarize the clinical and pathological characteristics.

A patient who had metastasis from a focus of invasive carcinoma confined to the head of an otherwise benign pedunculated adenomatous polyp of the sigmoid colon is described. That only 20 such cases have been reported previously attests to the rarity of this phenomenon. Because the morbidity and mortality of radical surgery far outweigh the liklihood of metastasis from such foci of invasive carcinoma in pedunculated adenomatous colonic polyps, local removal is recommended.
