Mesotheliomas in Children.

Mesotheliomas are rare and aggressive tumors that originate from mesothelial cells. Although exceedingly rare, these tumors may occur in children. Different from adult mesotheliomas, however, environmental exposures particularly to asbestos do not appear to play a major role in mesotheliomas in children, in whom specific genetic rearrangements driving these tumors have been identified in recent years. These molecular alterations may increasingly offer opportunities for targeted therapies in the future, which may provide better outcomes for these highly aggressive malignant neoplasms.

Psychoanalysis and Affective Neuroscience. The Motivational/Emotional System of Aggression in Human Relations.

This article highlights the evolutionary biological epistemology in Freud psychoanalytic theory. The concepts of aggressive and sexual drives are cornerstones of the psychoanalytic epistemological system, concerning the motivational/emotional roots of mental functioning. These biological roots of mental functioning, especially with regard to aggressive drive, have gradually faded away from psychoanalytic epistemology, as we show in this article. Currently, however, Neurosciences, and in particular Affective Neuroscience (Panksepp, 1998), can help us to have a better understanding of the biolog

Bus drivers' anger and anger expression in driver-passenger conflicts.

Bus driver anger due to passenger misbehavior may lead to serious bus accidents, yet there are no mature tools available to capture bus driver reactions during driver-passenger conflicts. The bus driver anger scale (BDAS) and the bus driver anger expression inventory (BDAX) were developed to measure the anger levels and expressions of drivers in such conflicts. A bus driver anger model was developed based on 400 questionnaires in Changsha, China. The findings indicate that drivers are most likely to be angered by passenger violations and quarrels among passengers. Drivers irritated by passenge

Sleep-deprived and behind the wheel: Exploring the impact of sleep patterns on new parents' driving behavior.

INTRODUCTION: New parents commonly experience sustained sleep disruption in the postpartum period, yet their road-safety risk remains under-examined. This study investigated sleep patterns, the prevalence of fatigued driving, risk awareness, and fatigue-management strategies among Australian parents with at least one child under 12 months. METHOD: A cross-sectional design using an online survey was conducted using Qualtrics. Measures included sleep quantity and quality (modified Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), frequency and symptoms of fatigued driving, self-reported driving behavior (Driver

Detecting sources of anger in automated driving: driving-related and external factor.

INTRODUCTION: Anger while driving is often provoked by on-road events like sudden cut-offs but can also arise from external factors, such as rumination of negative thoughts. With the rise of autonomous vehicles, drivers are expected to engage more in non-driving activities, potentially increasing the occurrence of anger stemming from non-driving-related sources. Given the well-established link between anger and aggressive driving behaviors, it is crucial to detect and understand the various origins of anger in autonomous driving contexts to enhance road safety. METHODS: This study investigate

A bottom-up clustering approach to identify bus driving patterns and to develop bus driving cycles for Hong Kong.

Bus transport has been an important mode taking up a significant share of urban travel demand and thus the corresponding impacts on the environment are of great concerns. Use of driving cycles to evaluate the environmental impacts of buses has attracted much attention in recent years worldwide. The franchised bus service is currently playing important roles in the public transport system in Hong Kong; however, there is no driving cycle developed specifically for them. A set of bus driving cycle was therefore developed using a bottom-up approach where driving data on the bus network with mixed

Sexual and aggressive motives in sexually aggressive college males.

The relative contributions to sexual aggression of general sexual and aggressive motives and their respective inhibitory factors were compared. One hundred forty-three university males responded to self-report measures of sexual and aggressive drives, sex and hostility guilt, social desirability response bias, and history of coercive sexuality. With the effects of social desirability controlled, the only predictor of sexual aggression was Sex Guilt, which predicted level of force used but not intimacy of the sexual act obtained.

MicroRNA expression profiles in molecular subtypes of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma are associated with clinical outcome and repression of specific mRNA targets.

Clear-cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCC) can be divided into four transcriptomic subtypes, two of which have a favorable and two an unfavorable prognosis. To assess mechanisms driving these subtypes, we investigated their miRNA expression patterns. miRNAs are master regulators of mRNAs, that are widely deregulated in cancer. Unsupervised clustering in our dataset (n = 128) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) validation set identified two distinct miRNA clusters that overlapped with the transcriptomic subtypes, underscoring the validity of these subtypes on a multi-omics level and suggesting a d

Using network analysis to explore the association between eating disorders symptoms and aggressiveness in Bulimia nervosa.

Aggressive behaviors have been reported to be more frequent in people with eating disorders (ED), especially bulimia nervosa (BN). Network Analysis (NA) is particularly useful or examining the interactions among symptoms of comorbid conditions through the identification of "bridge symptoms," defined as those symptoms playing a key role in the connection between two syndromic clusters. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of ED core symptoms and ED-related psychopathology with aggressiveness in a clinical sample of women with BN through NA. Aggressive histiocytic disorders that can involve the skin.

Histiocytoses are a heterogeneous group of disorders that are characterized by the proliferation and accumulation of reactive or neoplastic histiocytes. Three classes of histiocytoses have been defined: class I, Langerhans cell disease; class II, non-Langerhans cell histiocytic disease without features of malignancy; and class III, malignant histiocytic disorders. Although the disorders in classes I and II usually have a benign appearance on histology and are commonly non-aggressive and self-healing, some can cause debilitating or even fatal outcomes. Such cases beg the question: what stimulat

COPS7B Drives Malignant Progression of Glioblastoma Through Translational Upregulation of the Downstream Functional Effector CLU.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive primary malignant brain tumor, featuring diffuse infiltrative growth and poor clinical outcomes, which underscores the need to delineate the molecular mechanisms driving its malignant progression. COP9 signalosome subunit 7B (COPS7B), a core component of the conserved COP9 signalosome complex, is significantly upregulated in GBM tissues; however, its biological function and regulatory mechanism in GBM remain largely elusive. Here, we found that elevated COPS7B expression was positively correlated with glioma pathological grade and adverse prognosis in

The factors shaping car drivers' attitudes towards cyclist and their impact on behaviour.

Cycling for transportation has multiple benefits to both individuals and societies. However, in many countries, cycling rates are very low. One major deterrent is hostile or aggressive behaviours directed towards cyclists. Past research has established that negative attitudes towards cyclist are a major driver of aggressive behaviour. However, the attitudinal roots that motivate these negative attitudes are currently not well understood. This study investigates to what extent negative attitudes towards cyclists are rooted in a sense of attachment to cars, and environmental attitudes. Furthermo

Driving anger reduces the evasive response likelihood in near-crash events: Insights from SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study.

INTRODUCTION: Anger is a prevalent emotion that has been shown to negatively impact driving behavior, contributing to aggressive driving and road rage-both of which are well-known threats to traffic safety. This study investigated the effects of driving anger on evasive maneuvers immediately preceding crashes and near-crashes using naturalistic driving data, with particular attention to how emotional state interacts with event severity. METHODS: This study used data from the Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS) and employed a case-cohort approach

Biology and the oedipus complex.

Recent observations in the behavioral and neurosciences have raised questions about the ubiquity of the oedipus complex as well as about its significance for psychological development. The authors argue that the construct Freud called the oedipus complex in males is best examined in its component parts. One component--the incestuous wish--does not occur in all individuals. Another component--the boy's urge to engage competitively with other male figures, including the father--does appear to be biologically based in testosterone's effect on the brain and to be manifested in childhood rough and

Machine learning model for aberrant driving behaviour prediction using heart rate variability: a pilot study involving highway bus drivers.

Objectives. Current approaches via physiological features detecting aberrant driving behaviour (ADB), including speeding, abrupt steering, hard braking and aggressive acceleration, are developing. This study proposes using machine learning approaches incorporating heart rate variability (HRV) parameters to predict ADB occurrence. Methods. Naturalistic driving data of 10 highway bus drivers in Taiwan from their daily routes were collected for 4 consecutive days. Their driving behaviours and physiological data during a driving task were determined using a navigation mobile application and heart

Love at a Distance: Aggression and Hatred in a Schizoid Personality.

This paper explores the history of aggression as a drive derivative with a particular emphasis on understanding the role that it plays in the schizoid personality. The author's hypothesis is that schizoid defenses reveal a distinction between aggression and what is commonly referred to as "hatred." Hatred is a defensive maneuver intended to control aggression. It is not a destructive force embedded within it. I propose that the schizoid person defends himself or herself by engaging in a sustained seduction away from the aggression embedded within love. The schizoid is, in the most defensive ex

Prognostic Significance and Functional Role of PPIB in a Retrospective Cohort of Patients with Advanced Gastric Cancer.

Objectives: Gastric cancer remains a major global health burden, and robust biomarkers are needed to improve risk stratification. Although peptidyl-prolyl isomerase B (PPIB) has been suggested as a potential oncogenic factor, its clinical utility in gastric cancer remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the clinicopathological and prognostic significance of PPIB mRNA expression and delineate its functional role in driving tumor progression. Methods: PPIB mRNA expression was evaluated in a retrospective cohort of 497 gastric cancer patients using RNAscope in situ hybridization and digital
