A health survey of radiologic technologists.

A health survey of more than 143,000 radiologic technologists is described. The population was identified from the 1982 computerized files of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, which was established in 1926. Inactive members were traced to obtain current addresses or death notifications. More than 6000 technologists were reported to have died. For all registrants who were alive when located, a detailed 16-page questionnaire was sent, covering occupational histories, medical conditions, and other personal and lifestyle characteristics. Nonrespondents were contacted by telephone

Reflections on the Development and Implementation of a University Student Health and Well-being Online Survey: the BOOST-Well Project.

BACKGROUND: First year university students may be at risk of poor health behaviours and outcomes. Unfortunately, online surveys assessing multiple aspects of the health and well-being of university students have poor response rates, meaning the representativeness of such data may be questionable. This study sought to develop and implement an online survey to examine the health and well-being behaviours of medical and allied health students, with higher participation and response rate than have been reported in previous surveys. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was developed following

Kicking the can down the road? Referral services and a school-based primary healthcare service for rural primary school children.

INTRODUCTION: Several new school-located nurse models have recently been established in Australia. These services aim to improve health and education outcomes for children in less advantaged communities; however, data describing their activities and impact are limited. The School-Based Primary Health Care Service (SB-PHCS) was implemented in Broken Hill, a rural community in Far West New South Wales, Australia. The service aims to improve the health and educational outcomes of local children by facilitating access to health care. This study describes the referrals to other services supported b

Exposure frequency, intensity, and duration: What we know about work-related asthma risks for healthcare workers from cleaning and disinfection.

The objective of this review was to scope the current evidence base related to three exposure assessment concepts: frequency, intensity, and duration (latency) for cleaning and disinfection exposures in healthcare and subsequent work-related asthma risks. A search strategy was developed addressing intersections of four main concepts: (1) work-related asthma; (2) occupation (healthcare workers/nurses); (3) cleaning and disinfection; and (4) exposure. Three databases were searched: Embase, PubMed, and the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database. Data were extra

Anatomy education in occupational therapy curricula: Perspectives of practitioners in the United States.

The study of human anatomy is an integral component in the education of future occupational therapists, yet there is a paucity of research that explores the anatomy needs of students and new practitioners. As a follow up from a pilot study that surveyed a small cohort of practicing therapists, this article aimed to determine occupational therapy (OT) practitioners' views on anatomy course structure and content deemed important to include in OT curricula, entry level practitioners' anatomy knowledge, and application of anatomy in current practice. A Likert scale and free text questionnaire was

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in health professionals in Slovakia.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is the most important human transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (prion disease), recognised in sporadic, genetic but also iatrogenic forms. The identification of 8 health care workers in a group of 114 definitive CJD patients in Slovakia suggested the possibility of professionally acquired CJD and induced the investigation of potential endo- and exogenous risk factors. In CJD-affected health professionals special attention was paid to a detailed occupational history, including a possible professional contact with CJD patient and to the findings characteristi

Creating an Ear and Hearing Health Culture for Professional Ear Users: Current Perspectives on Challenges, Management, and Recommendations.

Professional ear users (PEUs), including musicians, instrument makers, or sound engineers, depend on highly trained auditory abilities for occupational performance. Given these demands, PEUs may benefit from tailored prevention, diagnostics, and treatment. Ear and hearing disorders are common and potentially career-ending in these populations, yet PEU-specific care pathways remain underdeveloped. This narrative review synthesizes the clinical experience of the authors with current evidence, recommendations, and challenges to advance an interdisciplinary framework for PEU ear and hearing health
