Leaf and stem endophytic microorganisms play an important role in plant physiology and secondary metabolite biosynthesis of plants, particularly in medicinal plants. Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees) is an important medicinal plant with liver-protective, anti-inflammatory, ovicidal, larvicidal, and anti-urolithatic properties. The medicinal activities are due to presence of andrographolides. This study investigated the culture-independent diversity of endophytic bacteria associated with Kalmegh at nursery, vegetative, and flowering stages using a metagenomic approach. The result

UNLABELLED: The COVID-19 pandemic created a global health crisis, with limited effective treatments. Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Nees (AP), with known anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, has been explored as adjunctive therapy for COVID-19, but its clinical evidence remains inconclusive. We hypothesized that AP-derived compounds may improve symptoms and inflammatory responses in mild-to-moderate COVID-19. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the clinical and biological effects of AP-derived compounds, its extract (APE), or its derivatives in patients with m

The synthesis and accumulation of active ingredients in medicinal plants are distributed in specific organs, tissues, and cell types, which are important for the exploitation of medicinal plants. However, the fine distribution of active ingredients is difficult to know. Here, the system of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) integrated with single-cell RNA sequencing was established for the first time in Andrographis paniculata (A. paniculata), a medicinal plant widely utilised in China and Southeast Asia. MSI shows specific distribution of andrographolides in A. paniculata, with higher accumulati

Bio-mediated synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) was carried out by utilizing the reducing and capping potential of Andrographis paniculata leaf extract. The capped ZnO NPs were characterized using UV-Vis, XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM and SAED analyses. FTIR analysis suggested the role of phenolic compounds, terpenoids, and proteins of A. paniculata leaf extract, in nucleation and stability of ZnO NPs. XRD pattern compared with the standard confirmed spectrum of zinc oxide particles formed in the present experiments were in the form of nanocrystals, as evidenced by the peaks at 2θ values. S

In the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare facility supply and access are limited. There was an announcement promoting Andrographis paniculata (ADG) use for treatment of mild COVID-19 patients in Thailand, but misconception of taking for prevention might occur. Moreover, the effect of ADG on liver function test (LFT) has not been established. To study the ADG use and effect on LFT in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) problems, conducted a cross-sectional study including GI patients who voluntarily filled the ADG questionnaire in Aug-Sep 2021. LFT data at that visit and at the prior visit (if avail
