A 79-year-old Indian male was admitted with upper abdominal discomfort of 1-year duration which was associated with loss of weight and appetite. Serum tumor markers, including carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9, were within normal limits. A computed tomographic scan demonstrated a cystically dilated and tortuous pancreatic duct measuring 1.9 cm, suggestive of an intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm. Fusion positron emission tomography/computed tomography with 2-deoxy-2-[18F] fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET/CT) which was subsequently performed confi

Targeted immunotherapy is a promising approach in treating high-risk and refractory/relapsed lymphoid malignancies. Although this strategy has shown a significant success in treating non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphomas and plasma cell myeloma, relapse with loss of targeted antigen can occur. Rarely, complete loss of multiple lineage specific markers can happen. We are describing 2 cases of B-cell neoplasms along with contributing immunohistochemistry, cytogenetic, and molecular results. Post-targeted CAR-T therapy, both cases, one aggressive B-cell lymphoma and the other plasma cell myeloma, lost B-c

Adenomatoid tumors are well-recognized neoplasms generally considered to be of mesothelial derivation. We describe an unusual vascular neoplasm that arose in the testis of a 29-year-old and resembled an adenomatoid tumor by light microscopy. An orchiectomy was performed, and the patient is alive and disease-free 3 years later. The 2-cm tumor was composed of small tubules lined by mesothelial-like cells with uniform, vesicular nuclei. However, some lumina contained erythrocytes, and immunohistochemically, the luminal cells reacted with antibodies to vimentin, Factor VIII-related antigen, and Ul

The immunohistochemical expression and localization of monoclonal antibodies to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and human alveolar macrophage (HAM-56) were evaluated in primary ovarian and metastatic gastrointestinal (GI) carcinomas. Immunohistochemistry was performed using an avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex method with capillary gap technology on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from 41 primary ovarian epithelial neoplasms, 17 metastatic gastrointestinal malignancies, and 10 tumors of uncertain primary origin. Overall, immunostaining for HAM-56 was positive in 35 (85%) ovarian epithe

A series of 10 normal cervix epithelia, 38 condylomas, 17 CIN (cervical intraepithelial neoplasm) I/II (low-grade CIN), 10 CIN III (high-grade CIN), 27 squamous cell carcinomas and 7 adenocarcinomas of the cervix were studied in paraffin-embedded sections for the expression of MHC class I antigens, using antibodies against HLA antigens and the immunoperoxidase technique. A PCR technique was also used to evaluate the presence of HPV-16 DNA. All samples from normal tissue, benign, premalignant and CIN III lesions expressed HLA class I antigens. However, 15% of the invasive carcinomas completely

AIMS: Brentuximab vedotin is a monoclonal anti-CD30 antibody-drug conjugate that has been used to treat a variety of CD30+ neoplasms. The phenomenon of antigen loss has been observed in patients treated with the anti-CD20 antibody rituximab. This study seeks to assess for antigen loss in the setting of recurrent CD30+ neoplasms treated with brentuximab vedotin.
METHODS: We report nine cases of persistent/recurrent cutaneous CD30+ lymphoid neoplasms that demonstrated variable CD30 expression after treatment with brentuximab vedotin. Cases include MF (n = 6), cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, not othe

With advances in the understanding of characteristics of molecules, specific antigens on the surface of hematological malignant cells were identified and multiple therapies targeting these antigens as neoplasm treatments were developed. Among them, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, which got United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for relapsed/refractory (r/r) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) as well as for recurrent acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) within the past five years, and for r/r mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) this year, represents one of the most ra

We have observed increased numbers of non-neoplastic gammadelta-T-cells in the peripheral blood of a series of patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma not of gammadelta-T-cell origin. The majority of normal gammadelta-T-cells are negative for surface CD4 and CD8 and a subpopulation does not express CD5, two immunophenotypic findings strongly suggestive of neoplasia in alpha beta T-cells. In addition, they express cytotoxic T-cell/Natural killer cell antigens. In this study, up to 22% of PBLs were CD4 and CD8 negative gammadelta-T-cells and up to 33% PBLs were CD5 negative gammadelta-T-cells. In a

The purpose of this review was to analyze the most perspective methods for risk stratification of malignant transformation of pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN). Advisability of humoral predictors (tumor markers, inflammatory markers, circulating leptin and branched-chain amino acids, etc.) is in identifying prognostic signs suitable for risk stratification of IPMN malignant transformation and, therefore, determining treatment strategy for a particular patient. According to data screening, the most advisable predictors of malignant transformation of neoplasms are carboh

High level of the CA 125 serum antigen is typically associated with ovarian malignancies. However the CA 125 antigen can also be found in association with inflammation or neoplasms of tissues other than ovaries, i.e. mesothelial cells, mullerian duct derivatives and gastroenteric tract. Therefore the marker is not specific for ovarian neoplasms. In childhood there is not a large experience about clinical meaning of high CA 125 serum levels. We report a case in a 14-year-old patient, female, affected by hydronephrosis. Our case confirms that high CA 125, especially in childhood, is not necessar

TNF-Receptor Associated Factor (TRAF)-3 is a master regulator of B cell homeostasis and function. TRAF3 has been shown to bind and regulate various proteins involved in the control of innate and adaptive immune responses. Previous studies showed that TRAF3 overexpression renders B cells hyper-reactive to antigens and Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists, while TRAF3 deficiency has been implicated in the development of a variety of B cell neoplasms. In this report, we show that transgenic mice overexpressing TRAF3 and BCL2 in B cells develop with high incidence severe lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly

The diagnosis of hidradenocarcinoma is difficult due to a combination of factors including inconsistent nomenclature/ classification, rarity of the neoplasm, and variable morphology of cells composing the neoplasm. Immunohistochemistry has not been previously performed on a series of hidradenocarcinomas. We evaluated six cases of hidradenocarcinoma histologically and immunohistochemically using antibodies to gross cystic disease fluid protein-15 (GCDFP-15), carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA), epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), S-100 protein, keratin AE1/3, cytokeratin 5/6, p53, bcl-1, bcl-2, and

BACKGROUND: Pemphigus herpetiformis (PH) is a rare clinical entity that combines the clinical features of dermatitis herpetiformis and the immunopathologic features of pemphigus. The target antigen is usually desmoglein 1, with exceptional cases manifesting autoantibodies against desmoglein 3. More recently, it has been found that many patients with PH also demonstrate autoantibodies against desmocollin. The association of PH with a malignant neoplasm is rare.
OBSERVATIONS: We describe a patient with PH and a lung neoplasm. Immunologic studies demonstrated IgG antibodies to desmoglein 3 and t

Clinical and pathologic features of 24 patients with large cell lymphomas that expressed the activation antigen Ki-1 are described. Phenotypic and/or genotypic studies characterized these neoplasms as T-cell (16 cases), B-cell (six cases), or null cell (two cases) type. Males predominantly were affected. Age of patients ranged from 19 to 73 years, with a bimodal distribution, with peaks in the third and seventh decades. Lymphadenopathy was present in nearly all patients. Extranodal involvement, including skin, soft tissue, bone, central nervous system, lung, or small intestine was observed in

In an attempt to characterize the immunocytochemical attributes of eccrine sweat gland carcinoma, we studied 32 examples of this tumor with antibodies to epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), cytokeratin (CK), carcinoembryonic antigen, S100 protein, alpha-lactalbumin, salivary amylase, blood group isoantigens, beta-2-microglobulin, and Leu M1. All cases expressed EMA and CK, and 28 of 32 cases also displayed at least 2 of the 6 remaining antigens. No significant variations were noted in the immunophenotypes of histologic subtypes of eccrine carcinoma. These results provide an objective means of d

The clinical and pathological features of four cases of feline intestinal haemangiosarcoma are described. All cases were in domestic shorthaired cats and the mean age of the animals (n=3) was 13 years. The tumours originated in the colon, small intestine, ileocaecocolic junction or rectum. The rectal tumour was juxtaposed with an adjacent mast cell neoplasm. Metastasis to mesenteric lymph node occurred in two cases, and in one of these cats there was also abdominal seeding. The histopathological appearance was of a spindle cell neoplasm with vascular differentiation in each case. Immunohistoch

A 33-yr-old African-American male with known human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positivity underwent CT guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy of an anterior mediastinal mass. The aspirate was composed of a dimorphic population of cells that included small mature lymphoid cells and scattered cohesive groups of large epithelial cells in equal numbers. The neoplasm stained strongly for low weight molecular cytokeratin, epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), leukocyte common antigen (LCA), and Leu-7 which was consistent with a diagnosis of thymoma. Subsequent biopsies determined the neoplasm to be a ma

AIMS: The incidence, anatomical localization and histological appearances of secondary neoplasms of the urinary bladder are described, with emphasis on the points of distinction from primary tumours.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A retrospective study of cases at the Royal Hospitals Trust yielded a total of 282 secondary bladder neoplasms, representing 2.3% of all malignant bladder tumours in surgical specimens. The commonest primary sites were the colon (21% of secondary neoplasms), prostate (19%), rectum (12%) and cervix (11%). Most tumours from these sites reached the bladder by direct spread. The
