Obesity and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) are closely linked and constitute a growing public health concern. In this work, we evaluated the antiobesity effect of an enantiomerically enriched mixture of 3',4'-di-O-acetyl-cis-khellactone (DOAcK), a natural product derivative obtained by asymmetric synthesis. This molecule is a derivative of praeruptorin, a major component found in Arracacia tolucensis as well as many other species from the Apiaceae family. A comprehensive evaluation of DOAcK was conducted using both experimental and theoretical methods. DOAcK showed significant effec

Sosnowsky's hogweed (Heracleum sosnowskyi Manden.) is a genus of plants in the family Apiaceae which also includes Giant Hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum Sommier and Levier). They are both found in Central Europe, mainly in neglected green areas or riversides. Sosnowsky's hogweed was brought to Poland from the Soviet Union in the 1950s to be used in animal feed production. Intended goals couldn't be achieved and the plant spread throughout grounds distant to the primarily cultivated lands. Sosnowsky's hogweed is especially hazardous in direct contact with human skin. It results from the conte

The northern yellow sac spider Cheiracanthium mildei L. Koch, is expanding its range to Central Europe, especially to synanthropic habitats. The spiders become unwanted companions because of the unreasonable fear - arachnophobia, and estetic reason - silk retreats in corners, capturing dust. The most commonly used substances against spiders are pesticides, which are, however, toxic. In our work we tested the attraction or repellence of 15 essential oils (EO) from plants representing eight families to C. mildei. Our research has shown a significant repellent effect of EO from three plants, name
