Effect of frontal muscle aponeurosis flap suspension surgery for severe congenital ptosis in children.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the effect of frontal muscle aponeurosis flap suspension surgery for severe congenital ptosis in children. METHODS: Recent results of 30 cases (45 eyes) of children with severe congenital ptosis were evaluated and follow-up observation was conducted. RESULTS: One week after the surgery, the success rate was 97.7% and it was 95.5% after three months. CONCLUSIONS: The suspension of frontal muscle aponeurosis should be the first choice for children with severe congenital ptosis for its simplicity, safety and fewer complications.

[Plastination histologic investigations on the inserting pars terminalis aponeurosis dorsalis of three-sectioned fingers].

With the help of thick transparent cross-sections of fingers, manufactured by plastination histology, it has been shown that fibres of the extensor aponeurosis insert not only the way described in current textbook on the basis phalangis distalis and on the capsule of the distal interphalangeal joint. Our studies prove that parts of the dorsal extension plate insert dorsally to the nail matrix and others run over the edge of the basis phalangis to the proximal part of the diaphysis where they intermingle with the periost of the phalanx.

Energetic Contribution of the Human Plantar Aponeurosis to Locomotor Economy During Bipedal Walking and Running.

OBJECTIVES: The human plantar aponeurosis (PA) is a unique structure that spans the longitudinal arch of the foot, contributing to locomotor efficiency by storing and releasing elastic energy. It is traditionally believed that the PA primarily enhances running economy by reducing muscular effort and metabolic cost. However, the extent to which the PA contributes to walking versus running has not been quantitatively assessed. This study aims to quantitatively compare the mechanical contribution of the PA during walking and running, and to evaluate its relative contribution to whole-body metabol

Size and Location of the Superior Transverse Ligament and Muscle-Aponeurosis Junction of the Levator Palpebrae Superioris.

The aim of this study is to elucidate the size and location of the superior transverse ligament and the muscle-aponeurosis junction (MAJ) of the levator palpebrae superioris.Forty-six eyelids from Korean adult cadavers (32 males, 14 females) were used. Through a cranial approach, orbital plates and orbital fat were removed. Then, the levator palpebrae superioris and superior transverse ligaments (STL) were exposed. The widths and locations of the STL were measured in relation to the supraorbital rim. The width and location of the MAJ was measured in reference to the medial and lateral canthi,

[The polysaccharide components of the ground substance of the connective tissue in retraction of the palmar aponeurosis (Dupuytren's disease)].

Histochemical methods were employed to study the behaviour of connectival glycoproteins in Dupuytren's disease. Increases were observed in glycoproteins and acid glycosaminoglycans in the sections with higher cell intensity. In segments where fibrosis was more marked, a prevalence of neutral polysaccharides was encountered. A possible role of these alterations in the development of palmar aponeurosis retraction is discussed.

[Effectiveness of groin flap with external oblique aponeurosis for tendon and skin defects of dorsal foot].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of groin flap with external oblique aponeurosis in repair of tendon and skin defects of dorsal foot. METHODS: Between October 2016 and January 2020, 12 patients with compound tissue defects of the dorsal foot caused by trauma were treated. There were 9 males and 3 females, with a median age of 42 years (range, 32-65 years). The size of the skin defects ranged from 8 cm×5 cm to 12 cm×8 cm. All wounds were accompanied by extensor tendon injury, including 6 cases of extensor hallucis longus tendon defect, 5 cases of extensor digitalis longus tendon def

Surgical approach to repair of traumatic avulsion and external herniation of the levator palpebrae superioris aponeurosis.

This report describes the unusual case and surgical repair of avulsion and external herniation of the levator palpebrae superioris (LPS) aponeurosis and attached muscle fibres associated with superior tarsal plate fracture in an 8-year-old Indigenous girl. To the authors' knowledge, isolated and complete levator palpebrae superioris avulsion with external herniation in trauma is previously unreported. Open injury to LPS requires swift surgical repair, and an anterior ptosis repair approach may facilitate identification of anatomical structures to prevent upper eyelid ptosis. Ultimately, the su

'Superior biceps aponeurosis'-Morphological characteristics of the origin of the short head of the biceps brachii muscle.

PURPOSE: Our aim was to characterize the morphology of the proximal attachment of the biceps brachii short head. We hypothesize that it has an aponeurotic component that may affect shoulder joint biomechanics. METHODS: The coracoacromial region and the biceps brachii muscle were dissected in 30 cadaveric shoulders. The course and dimensions of the tendon and aponeurosis were evaluated. The cross-sectional area of the belly of the short head and the length of the whole muscle were measured. Correlations between the aponeurosis and dimensions of the muscle were tested with the Spearman's rank c

[A Difficult Airway after Anesthetic Induction in a Patient with Masticatory Muscle Tendon-Aponeurosis Hyperplasia].

We present a case of masticatory muscle tendon- aponeurosis hyperplasia in a patient who underwent general anesthesia for gynecologic surgery. The patient's square-shaped mandible was noticed during preoperative assessment by an anesthesiologist. Further investigation revealed masticatory muscle tendon- aponeurosis hyperplasia. Anesthetic induction agents were administered, and facemask ventilation was initi- ated easily. As the anesthesiologist had predicted, the patient's mouth opening was reduced after administration of muscle relaxants, and keeping her mouth open was more difficult than wh

Anatomical study of the palatine aponeurosis: application to posterior palatal seal of the complete maxillary denture.

The palatine aponeurosis is a thin, fibrous lamella comprising the extended tendons of the tensor veli palatini muscles, attached to the posterior border and inferior surface of the palatine bone. In dentistry, the relationship between the "vibrating line" and the border of the hard and soft palate has long been discussed. However, to our knowledge, there has been no discussion of the relationship between the palatine aponeurosis and the vibrating line(s). Twenty sides from ten fresh frozen White cadaveric heads (seven males and three females) whose mean age at death was 79 years) were used in

[Palatal aponeurosis and the insertion of the tensor muscle of the soft palate. An anatomic study and clinical applications].

INTRODUCTION: Knowledge of the anatomy of soft palate muscles is of great interest in cleft palate surgery, in surgical correction of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and in excision of maxillo-facial carcinomas. Some authors described the palatal aponeurosis as the expansion of the tendon of the two tensor veli palatini muscles, others stated that the palatal aponeurosis is a distinct anatomic entity. METHOD: Ten dissections of the soft palate have been performed to improve our knowledge of its anatomy. RESULTS: The palatal aponeurosis is a distinct anatomic entity continuous with the perio

Dynamic suburethral suspension with pedicled external oblique aponeurosis in the management of female urinary incontinence.

PURPOSE: Despite excellent postoperative continence with pubovaginal sling procedures, the resultant morbidities of de novo urgency and urinary obstruction due to sling tension remain valid concerns. The feasibility and outcome of dynamic suburethral suspension using bilateral strips of external oblique aponeurosis left attached medially to the anterior rectus sheath and joined beneath the urethra under no tension were determined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between May 1995 and April 1998, 25 women with stress urinary incontinence were evaluated and underwent a dynamic suburethral suspension proc

Results of Müllerotomy and levator aponeurosis transposition for the correction of upper eyelid retraction in Graves disease.

BACKGROUND: Upper eyelid retraction in Graves disease may cause functional morbidity and aesthetic deformity. Surgery to correct thyroid-related upper eyelid retraction may result in temporal undercorrection with failure to eliminate lateral eyelid retraction, leading in turn to a poor eyelid contour postoperatively. METHODS: In 1984, one of the authors developed a new procedure for correcting moderate to severe upper eyelid retraction associated with Graves disease. The surgical technique consists of a Müllerotomy and recession of the levator aponeurosis combined with medial transposition of

[Ptosis surgery: shortening the levator aponeurosis of Müller's muscle and the tarsus using an anterior approach].

In cases of moderate congenital ptosis, better lid elevation can be achieved by resection of the levator muscle through a skin incision, combined with tarsectomy and shortening of the superior tarsal muscle. The function of the levator muscle can thus be fully exploited.

Transcutaneous Levator Aponeurosis Recession Without Spacer Grafts for Upper Eyelid Retraction: A Five-Case Series.

This case series describes the surgical technique and early postoperative outcomes of transcutaneous levator aponeurosis recession without spacer grafts or newly created flaps for upper eyelid retraction. We report five consecutive Japanese patients (five eyelids) who underwent this procedure at Kanemori Eye Plastic Surgery Clinic between July 2017 and February 2026. Preoperative and three-month postoperative images were analyzed using ImageJ (National Institutes of Health; Bethesda, Maryland, United States). Palpebral fissure height ratio (PFHR) and upper eyelid margin height ratio (UEMHR) we

Bifurcated distal biceps brachii tendon coexisting with separated bicipital aponeurosis: a complex variational case report.

Variations appearing in biceps brachii muscle are common with accessory head, different origins, variant insertion, and different pattern of nerve innervation. However, variations appearing in both origin and insertion, and with other anomalous morphology at the same time are seldom. Here we report a complex variational case on the right arm of a 91-year-old Japanese female cadaver. The complex variations included (1) the biceps brachii muscle bifurcated at its distal ending; (2) the long head had its own tendon, which divided into two parts, i.e., a lateral part fused into the fascia between

Surgical Observations of the Levator Aponeurosis Fibrotic Changes in Simple Congenital Ptosis Suggest Complex Pathogenesis.

PURPOSE: To shed light upon the possible role of the levator aponeurosis (LA) developmental fibrotic changes as an added etiology for simple congenital ptosis, which causes limitation of the levator function (LF). METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients with simple congenital ptosis who underwent skin approach LA resection as a primary intervention with an intraoperative photographic documentation of LA fibrotic changes. Preoperative demographics and clinical data were reviewed. The effect of LA fibrotic changes on the LF was assessed in different LA fibrotic changes with o
