Trauma-informed behavioral supports (TIBS) for inpatient treatment of individuals who experience BPD.

Trauma-Informed Behavioral Supports (TIBS) is a novel treatment approach targeting aggression against self or against others in individuals who experience borderline personality disorder (BPD). It is based on applied behavior analysis and uses a person-centered and trauma-informed framework. People with BPD hospitalized because of concerning behaviors, [aggression to others, verbal aggression (e.g., defined as aggression in the forms of verbal threats, etc.), physical aggression, and self-injury, etc.] may experience exacerbations of such behavior in the hospital. Individuals diagnosed with BP

Can fractal methods applied to video tracking detect the effects of deltamethrin pesticide or mercury on the locomotion behavior of shrimps?

Shrimps can accumulate environmental toxicants and suffer behavioral changes. However, methods to quantitatively detect changes in the behavior of these shrimps are still needed. The present study aims to verify whether mathematical and fractal methods applied to video tracking can adequately describe changes in the locomotion behavior of shrimps exposed to low concentrations of toxic chemicals, such as 0.15µgL-1 deltamethrin pesticide or 10µgL-1 mercuric chloride. Results showed no change after 1min, 4, 24, and 48h of treatment. However, after 72 and 96h of treatment, both the linear methods

Structural Origin of Crystallographic Face-Dependent Elastoplastic and Plastic Bending in an Organic Molecular Crystal.

Crystalline materials that exhibit attractive mechanical responses under external stresses have attracted considerable interest due to their potential applications across multiple fields. Here, we present a crystalline form of 9-fluorenone hydrazone (9-FH) that exhibits dual mechanical stress response, that is, plasticity and elastoplastic behavior, on different crystallographic faces. This dual mechanical response arises from specific molecular packing features, wherein intermolecular interactions play a key role in modulating the crystal's mechanical properties from the different faces. Here

The comorbidities of adolescent problem behaviors: a latent class model.

The correlations and comorbidities of a series of adolescent problem behaviors were studied in a sample of 739 New Zealand 15-year-olds. This analysis revealed the presence of strong comorbidities between different problem behaviors. The data were modeled using methods of unrestricted latent class analysis and this suggested that the best fitting model to describe the data was one which assumed that adolescent problem behaviors were described by four general classes of children. While the same general four-class model applied to males and females, there were marked gender differences in the ra

Automated Measurements of Sleep and Locomotor Activity in Mexican Cavefish.

Across phyla, sleep is characterized by highly conserved behavioral characteristics that include elevated arousal threshold, rebound following sleep deprivation, and consolidated periods of behavioral immobility. The Mexican cavefish, Astyanax mexicanus (A. mexicanus), is a model for studying trait evolution in response to environmental perturbation. A. mexicanus exist as in eyed surface-dwelling forms and multiple blind cave-dwelling populations that have robust morphological and behavioral differences. Sleep loss has occurred in multiple, independently-evolved cavefish populations. This prot

Childhood trichotillomania treated indirectly by punishing thumb sucking.

Trichotillomania was treated in a developmentally normal three-year-old by punishing thumb sucking. A behavioral analysis indicated a chain of behaviors that began with hair pulling and terminated in thumb sucking. The parents punished the thumb sucking by applying a bad tasting substance to the thumb. Both hair pulling and thumb sucking were rapidly eliminated. The child remained symptom free at 40 month follow-up. This study represents the third time trichotillomania has been treated in a preschooler indirectly by targeting finger sucking as the behavior to change. The significance of treati

A new device for behavioral analysis on rats exposed to high pressure.

The high pressure nervous syndrome (HPNS) is the term applied to the disturbances which appear when humans or animals are exposed to high pressure. The principal behavioral symptoms include locomotor activity, tremor and myoclonia. These symptoms have often been visually estimated previously, on free-moving animals, only by their onset pressure. In the present study, we report on the use of a new computerized device which enables a quantitative analysis of the behavioral symptoms of HPNS. These disturbances could be essentially dependent on the variations of pressure. This new device could als

Cholestatic liver disease leads to significant adaptative changes in neural circuits regulating social behavior in mice to enhance sociability.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Cholestatic liver diseases (CLD) are commonly associated with behavioral changes, including social isolation, that negatively affects patient quality of life and remains unaltered by current therapies. It remains unclear whether CLD-associated social dysfunction stems from a direct effect on the brain, or from the psychological impact of CLD. The psychological component of disease is absent in animals, so we investigated the impact of CLD on social behavior and gene expression profiles in key social behavior-regulating brain regions in a mouse model. METHODS: CLD due to bil

Improved analysis of heart rate variability by methods of nonlinear dynamics.

The traditional analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) in the time and frequency domains seems to be an independent predictive marker for sudden cardiac death. Because the usual applied methods of HRV analysis describe only linear or strong periodic phenomena, the authors have developed new methods of HRV analysis based on nonlinear dynamics. In that way, parameters are extracted that quantify more complex processes and their complicated relationships. These methods are symbolic dynamics that describes the beat-to-beat dynamics and renormalized entropy that compares the complexity of power s

Mechanisms of Change in Population-Based Parenting Interventions for Children and Adolescents.

OBJECTIVE: Developing an effective population-level system of evidence-based parenting support capable of shifting (at a population level) rates of child maltreatment and social, emotional, and behavioral problems in children requires an integrated theory of change. This paper presents a systems-contextual model of change and identifies modifiable mechanisms that can potentially explain population-level changes in parenting and child outcomes. METHOD: Using the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program as an exemplar of a tiered, multi-level system of evidence-based parenting interventions, we disc

Relationships between subjective experience, electroencephalogram, and heart rate variability during a series of cosmetic behavior.

INTRODUCTION: Cosmetic behavior is an important daily activity, especially for women, because it increases visual attractiveness, self-confidence, and positive emotions. However, it is unknown whether a relationship exists between physiological measures and subjective experiences during the series of cosmetic behaviors. METHODS: Electroencephalograms (EEG) and electrocardiograms (ECG) from thirty female participants who were asked to look in a mirror after applying skincare, as well as base, eye, cheek, and lip makeup were recorded. The price range of cosmetic products was also considered. Su

[Suicidal Behavior in Chilean Adolescents: A Multidimensional Analysis Focused on Psychological, Clinical, and Socio-Familial Factors].

UNLABELLED: Suicidal behavior is a global public health issue, particularly among adolescents, where it stands as one of the leading causes of death in this age group. In Chile, adolescent suicide rates have alarmingly increased over recent decades, with psychological, clinical, and socio-familial factors emerging as key contributors. However, existing theoretical models face limitations when applied to specific sociocultural contexts. AIM: To explain suicidal behavior in a clinical sample of Chilean adolescents, integrating psychological, clinical and socio-familial factors. METHODS: A non-

Biomechanical comparison of all-on-4 and all-on-5 implant-supported prostheses with alteration of anterior-posterior spread: a three-dimensional finite element analysis.

Introduction: The all-on-4 concept is widely used in clinical practice. However, the biomechanical changes following the alteration of anterior-posterior (AP) spread in all-on-4 implant-supported prostheses have not been extensively studied. Methods: Three-dimensional finite element analysis was used to compare the biomechanical behavior of all-on-4 and all-on-5 implant-supported prostheses with a change in anterior-posterior (AP) spread. A three-dimensional finite element analysis was performed on a geometrical mandible model containing 4 or 5 implants. Four different implant configurations w

Relationship Among Motor Behavior, Motor Development, and Motor Performance in Children Aged 7-8 Years in China.

For children aged 7-8 years in China, "immobility" is a key problem hindering their physical and mental development in recent years. It is widely accepted that motor performance development in children is accompanied by physical and mental growth and development. However, few studies have clarified the relationship among motor behavior, motor development and motor performance. To bridge this knowledge gap, an empirical analysis of children aged 7-8 years in China was conducted. This study developed scales for testing motor performance, motor behavior and motor performance, respectively, and co
