Forty children with malignant disease underwent full audiological assessment with pure tone audiometry, tympanometry and measurement of brain stem auditory evoked potentials in an attempt to detect auditory dysfunction resulting from treatment. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between tinnitus and speech audiometry results.

OBJECTIVE: This prospective study involved a longitudinal analysis of the progression of hearing thresholds in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta.
METHODS: Audiometric results from 36 osteogenesis imperfecta patients (age range, 6-79 years) were compared between two test times with an average interval of 4 years. The mean pure-tone air conduction (AC) and bone conduction (BC) hearing thresholds (HT) of 534 randomly selected, caucasian, white, urban children with normal otoscopy, otomicroscopy and impedance audiometry, i.e. normal middle ear function, are presented here. Children with pathological middle ear findings or abnormal impedance audiometry were excluded. The average age was 13.8 years, SD 0.5, at the date of examination. Hearing investigations (speech, tuning fork, pure-tone threshold audiometry) were conducted in 35 patients (18 males and 17 females aged 30-55) with acute subarachnoidal hemorrhage (ASH) which was spontaneous in 16 and resultant from rupture of the arterial aneurysm in 19 patients.
