Electrochemical biosensors for the detection of urinary tract infections.

Electrochemical biosensors have emerged as promising tools to address major limitations of conventional urinary tract infection (UTI) diagnosis, which depends on slow culture and low-specificity dipsticks. By transducing specific biorecognition events into electrical signals, these platforms can deliver rapid, sensitive, and potentially point of care results directly from urine. This narrative review synthesizes developments in pathogen directed and host response based electrochemical biosensors for UTI detection. Biosensors and Biomarkers for the Detection of Motion Sickness.

Motion sickness (MS) is a prevalent syndrome that predominantly occurs during transportation and virtual reality (VR). The absence of reliable indicators and detection methods makes precise diagnosis difficult. Biomarker concentrations and trends may imply individual susceptibility, symptom classification, and the specific progression of MS. It is therefore essential to explore biosensors capable of providing sensitive, accurate, and real-time monitoring of biomarkers. This review provides a summary of the pathogenesis and biological pathways underlying MS, followed by an examination of biomar

Stable nitronyl nitroxide monoradical MATMP as novel monomer of reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization for ultrasensitive DNA detection.

In this work, it came up a hydrophilic and stable nitronyl nitroxide monoradical 4-methacryloyloxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl freeradical (MATMP) as new monomer of polymerization for DNA detection. The detection limit was over 1,000,000 times lower than 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) derivatives as electrochemical labels alone. Within this approach, a single biomolecule can be converted into the strong electrochemical signal, therefore lung cancer DNA can be detected at low concentration. For the first step, the HS-PNA probe was fixed on the surface of the Au electrode.

A non-enzymatic electrochemical biosensor for the detection of formalin levels in fishes: Realization of a novel comparator effect based on electrolyte.

Formalin has been used as the preservative of fishes in the concentration range of 15-25 mgL-1. However, there have been a high frequency of violations in the optimum use of formalin levels. The consumption of fishes treated with excessive formalin levels leads to nasopharynx, leukaemia and sinonasal cancer and there is a huge demand for the development of formalin sensor. Conventional formalin sensors such as chromogenic and mass balance sensors fall short in real-time analysis due to the lack of specificity and sensitivity in the interference medium. In this context, it has been emphasized t

Separation of Biological Events from the Photoanode: Toward the Ferricyanide-Mediated Redox Cyclic Photoelectrochemical System of an Integrated Photoanode and Photocathode.

Photoanode sensing platforms with remarkable photoelectrochemical (PEC) response and satisfying visible-light absorption have become the most promising detection systems. Nevertheless, their inevitable electrophilic character limits their expansion in the bioassay because of reductive substances in serum or other body fluids that can severely interfere with the photocurrent to be read. To solve it, a PEC platform-assembled dual-active electrode is designed to realize the separation of biological monitoring from the photoanode. The ferricyanide ([Fe(CN)6]3-)-mediated redox cycle is first propos

Versatile Biosensing Tool: CRISPR-Cas12a System-Integrated Electrochemical Biosensor for Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus Detection in Clinical and Environmental Conditions.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is a highly lethal zoonotic virus with a maximum mortality rate of 30%. Despite its risks and potential for human-to-human transmission, the standard diagnostic method has been absent for SFTSV detection. Therefore, this study introduces a versatile SFTSV biosensing technology using the electrochemical-clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (EC-CRISPR) system. The sensing membrane is functionalized with the 2WJ DNA@Au-MoS2 signal probe as a strategy to amplify the EC response resulting from target detection events of t

Low-potential anodic electrochemiluminescence of terbium metal-organic frameworks for selective microRNA-155 detection.

High excitation potential is recognized as a harmful factor for the biological activity of biomacromolecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids, in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensing. Developing low-potential ECL luminophores is vital for improving ECL accuracy in actual sample sensing. In this work, based on porous metal-organic framework (MOF) structure with multiple active sites and energy transfer between the excited ligands and Ln nodes, we designed a series of Ln-MOFs and observed ECL emission at low potential, providing a novel method to realize low-potential ECL.
