Sophorolipid-Based Biosurfactant Application for Carbonated Water Flooding: An Experimental Approach for Enhanced Oil Recovery.

Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies are facing growing pressure to strike a balance between production efficiency and environmental sustainability. This study investigated sophorolipid (SL) biosurfactants produced by Candida bombicola as environmentally compatible alternatives to synthetic surfactants in carbonated water flooding applications. Comprehensive characterization using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and NMR spectroscopy confirmed a glycolipid structure with hydrophilic sophorose disaccharide heads and hydrophobic fatty acid tails. The biosurfactant demonstrated exceptional s

Biosurfactant production by a rhizosphere bacteria Bacillus altitudinis MS16 and its promising emulsification and antifungal activity.

Generally, most of the biosurfactant producing microbes are the common inhabitants of hydrocarbon contaminated sites. However, there are a very few literatures that report the existence of biosurfactant producing microbes in rhizosphere soil of plants involved in remediation of pesticide laden agricultural soil and in general welfare of the plants indicating the necessity of further research. A total of twenty three morphologically distinct rhizosphere strains were isolated and were screened for biosurfactant production through preliminary biosurfactant screening assays. Based on the screening

Impact assessment of azulene and chromium on growth and metabolites of wheat and chilli cultivars under biosurfactant augmentation.

Dye azulene and heavy metal chromium are two different types of persistent toxic compounds present in textile effluent. These compounds contaminate the soil and harm plant productivity during unchecked disposal of textile effluent to the farm soil. Environmental and safety concerns associated with crops, soil, and human health encourage the exploration of biological tools to control the issue. We hereby propose the application of biosurfactant (lipopeptide) to reduce the toxic effects of azulene and chromium in plants. Results of the study indicated that the augmentation of biosurfactant with

Nonviral vectors with a biosurfactant MEL-A promote gene transfection into solid tumors in the mouse abdominal cavity.

Recently, we showed that a biosurfactatnt 4-O-[(4',6'-di-O-acethyl-2',3'-di-O-alkanoyl)-beta-D-mannopyranosyl] meso-erythritol A (MEL-A) greatly increased the efficiency of gene transfection mediated by cationic liposomes in vitro. We then studied whether the high transfection efficiency of these liposomes is maintained in vivo for tumor cells in the mouse abdominal cavity. When a complex of the liposomes and plasmid DNA was injected intraperitoneally into C57BL/6J mice bearing B16/BL6 tumors, we found that the biosurfactant significantly increased liposome-mediated gene transfection to the mo

Evaluation of Salmonella bongori derived biosurfactants and its extracellular protein separation by SDS-PAGE using petridishes: A simply modified approach.

Presently, through the preliminary screening assays, the Salmonella bongori BH11 was found to be an effective biosurfactants (BSFs) producer. The secreted BSFs were extracted using methanol: chloroform and characterized through FTIR, TLC, HPLC and GCMS analyses. Further, the extracellular protein was extracted (TCA/acetone method), estimated (Lowry's method) and separated (standard and modified SDS-PAGE). Through the obtained characteristic FTIR peaks (1107.09cm-1), its content was presumed to be glycolipids and as rhamnose/rhamnolipids through the TLC-Rf value. GCMS revealed 6 compounds, in w

Design of biosurfactant proteins with pH-sensitive reversible surface-active property and their excellent foam and emulsion stability.

Biosurfactant proteins obtained through microbial fermentation have garnered increasing attention as their strong sequence designability and cost-effectiveness. A series of novel biosurfactant proteins (DL21P4, DAFP4 and DAFSP4) as pH-responsive surfactants was designed by a seven-residue repeating motif peptide Lac21 with α-helical structure. These proteins exhibit a conformation composed of α-helices and random coils, which facilitates their stable adsorption at the interface. Compared with DL21P4 and DAFP4, DAFSP4 with special silk-derived hydrophobic tail peptide tends to undergo multilaye

The release of petroleum hydrocarbons from a saline-sodic soil by the new biosurfactant-producing strain of Bacillus sp.

Adsorption of old-aged petroleum hydrocarbons to the soil solid phase, which causes biosurfactant loss of performance, is among the limiting factors for the remediation of the saline-sodic soils contaminated with petroleum. Therefore, to find a functional biosurfactant in oil-contaminated saline-sodic soils, the efficiency of 39 bacteria isolated from petroleum-contaminated soils was evaluated. The strains were cultured in the Bushnell-Haas medium, and the produced biosurfactants and bioemulsifiers in this medium were extracted using chloroform/methanol and ethyl acetate extraction methods, re
