To Study the Role of FNAC in Pre-operative Diagnostic Work Up and Management in Parotid Tumours.

AIM: The present study evaluated the clinical and radiological stability of hard and soft tissues following alveolar socket preservation (ASP) procedure with a follow-up of 5 year from implant insertion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The initial sample consisted of seven patients who underwent single tooth extraction and ASP procedure by means of demineralized bovine bone mineral particles covered with a porcine-derived non-cross-linked collagen matrix (CM). Each patient received a submerged single implant in the healed site. Mesial and distal peri-implant marginal bone resorption (MBR) rates were a

Evaluation of Effectiveness of Nanocrystalline Hydroxyapatite and Demineralized Bone Matrix Combined with Titanium-platelet Rich Fibrin for Ridge Preservation: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

AIM: Preservation of ridge dimensions is the important aspect after tooth extraction for prosthetic and implant rehabilitation. Titanium-platelet rich fibrin (T-PRF) is an autologous biomaterial, and when used with bone graft it could enhance the bone regeneration. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate the combined effect of T-PRF with nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (Nano-HA) and T-PRF with demineralized bone matrix (DMBM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty systemically healthy patients were included in the study and were randomly assigned into two groups. Ten patients were treated with at

[Aneurysmal bone cyst in 2006].

The etiology of aneurysmal bone cyst is probably multifactorial. Recent progress in genetics and immunohistochemistry tends to prove that aneurysmal bone cyst is tumor and not a pseudo-tumor. Involvement of chromosomes 17p11-13 or 16q22 has been described. MRI is indispensable. Signs highly suggestive of aneurysmal bone cyst are: well-limited expansive bone lesion, low intensity T1 signal associated with high intensity T2 signal (liquid component), a low intensity peripheral line with enhancement after contrast injection, septal partitioning and fluid levels. Gadolinium injection is informativ

Clinical and Radiographic Evaluation of Demineralized Freeze-Dried Cancellous Block Allograft for Ridge Augmentation: A Pilot Study.

Bone resorption after tooth extraction is a common problem in implant dentistry. Allografts are one of the therapeutic techniques used to reconstruct the deficient ridge. Although this technique eliminates the need for a surgical donor site, it has yielded contradictory results. The aim of the present pilot study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic results of the use of demineralized freeze-dried cancellous block allografts (DFDCBAs) in lateral ridge augmentation. Seven patients were included in this study. Lateral reconstruction of bone was performed using DFDCBA with stabilizing sc

Demineralized bone matrix as a biological scaffold for bone repair.

Experimental models were created in rat fibula to represent impaired bone healing so that biological deficiencies that cause bone repair to fail or to be delayed may be investigated. These models consist of a 4-mm-long segmental defect, created in rat fibula by osteotomy, and fitted with a 7-mm-long tubular specimen of demineralized bone matrix (DBM) over the cut ends of the fibula. The experiments in this study involved various modifications of the DBM scaffold designed to reduce its osteoinductive activity: steam sterilization (sDBM), ethylene oxide sterilization (eoDBM), trypsin digestion (

Production of an osteoinductive demineralised bone matrix powder without the use of organic solvents.

Demineralised bone matrix (DBM) is produced by grinding cortical bone into a powder, sieving the powder to obtain a desired size range and then demineralising the powder using acid. Protocols for the production of DBM powder have been published since 1965 and the powder can be used in lyophilised form or it can be mixed with a carrier to produce a paste or putty. The powder is generally produced from cortical bone which has been processed to remove blood, bone marrow and bone marrow components, including fat. Removal of fat is accomplished by incorporating incubation in an organic solvent, oft

Periodontal Regenerative Treatment of Intrabony Defects in the Esthetic Zone Using Modified Vestibular Incision Subperiosteal Tunnel Access (M-VISTA).

Periodontal regenerative treatment of intrabony defects in the esthetic zone often poses a significant challenge to clinicians. Various materials and techniques have been proposed to achieve periodontal regeneration. This article presents modified vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access (M-VISTA) for treatment of intrabony defects in the esthetic zone. Two cases were treated using the proposed approach with enamel matrix derivatives and demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft to optimize the regenerative outcomes without affecting the soft tissue profile in the esthetic zone. Two dif

Capitellar Osteochondritis Dissecans Lesion Treated With Bioabsorbable Pin, Extracellular Matrix Cartilage Allograft, and Intraosseous Bioplasty: A Case Report.

Capitellar osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a painful and debilitating condition, most often seen in adolescent overhead athletes and gymnasts. Treatment options for unstable capitellar OCD lesions include fragment fixation, autologous chondrocyte implantation, osteochondral autograft, fragment debridement, and drilling of the lesion. While many current surgical techniques yield suboptimal outcomes, this case demonstrates a novel technique for treating an unstable capitellar OCD lesion with associated subchondral cyst in a 14-year-old female patient. This technique combines bioabsorbable pin

Immobilization and long-term recovery results in large changes in bone structure and strength but no corresponding alterations of osteocyte lacunar properties.

The ability of osteocytes to demineralize the perilacunar matrix, osteocytic osteolysis, and thereby participate directly in bone metabolism, is an aspect of osteocyte biology that has received increasing attention during the last couple of years. The aim of the present work was to investigate whether osteocyte lacunar properties change during immobilization and subsequent recovery. A rat cortical bone model with negligible Haversian remodeling effects was used, with temporary immobilization of one hindlimb induced by botulinum toxin. Several complementary techniques covering multiple length s

MRI of transient osteoporosis of the hip.

Among the available imaging techniques such as conventional radiography, radionuclide bone scan, and computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has made significant contributions to the diagnosis of acute hip joint disease in adults by enabling early differentiation between such conditions as idiopathic avascular femoral head necrosis, septic coxitis, degenerative disease, and tumors. In this study we investigated the use of MRI for evaluation of patients with transient osteoporosis (TO). MRI with T1- and T2-weighted sequences in coronal, transverse, and sagittal sections was p

Use of bone biochemical markers with dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry for early determination of bone loss in persons with spinal cord injury.

Our cross-sectional study aimed at the early determination of changes in bone metabolism in terms of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover in persons with complete spinal cord injury (SCI) during the acute phase of paraplegia. Combined dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and specific biochemical markers of bone turnover were used to determine bone metabolism. Seven persons with SCI (age, 31.3 +/- 9.5 years) who had sustained injury an average of 3 months earlier (103 +/- 10.8 days) were compared with 10 able-bodied controls (27.5 +/- 4.3 years). Four paraplegics and 3 quadriplegics c

TREATMENT OF UNICAMERAL BONE CYSTS IN CHILDREN: A COMPARATIVE STUDY.

Unicameral bone cysts (UBC) are benign bone tumor-like lesions. Mostly they are located in the metaphyseal-diaphyseal region of long bones in children and adolescents. The etiology of UBC is still unclear. There is no consensus about the protocol of UBC treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of three different techniques for the treatment of UBC. This study included 129 pediatric patients with UBC treated at University Children's Hospital in Belgrade during the 8-year period. The mean follow up was 7.14 years. The following parameters were observed: gender, age, sit

Localized vertical maxillary ridge augmentation using symphyseal bone cores: a technique and case report.

Vertical augmentation of the alveolar ridge is intended to restore resorbed alveolar ridges. This procedure is important for the placement of dental implants in a favorable position and also to enhance restoration esthetics. This article presents an approach for vertical ridge augmentation in the anterior maxilla utilizing symphyseal bone cores. A patient presented with 2 localized bony defects around the maxillary lateral incisors. Following extraction of these teeth, vertical bone defects of 7 mm on the right and 6 mm on the left were observed in relation to the cementoenamel junction of the

Periodontal regeneration around natural teeth.

1. Evidence is conclusive (Table 2) that periodontal regeneration in humans is possible following the use of bone grafts, guided tissue regeneration procedures, both without and in combination with bone grafts, and root demineralization procedures. 2. Clinically guided tissue regeneration procedures have demonstrated significant positive clinical change beyond that achieved with debridement alone in treating mandibular and maxillary (buccal only) Class II furcations. Similar data exist for intraosseous defects. Evidence suggests that the use of bone grafts or GTR procedures produce equal clini

C-arm-Free Simultaneous OLIF51 and Percutaneous Pedicle Screw Fixation in a Single Lateral Position.

Oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) is an established technique for the indirect decompression of lumbar canal stenosis. However, OLIF at the L5-S1 level (OLIF51) is technically difficult because of the anatomical structures. We present a novel simultaneous technique of OLIF51 with percutaneous pedicle screw fixation without fluoroscopy. The patient is placed in a right lateral decubitus position. A percutaneous reference pin is inserted into the right sacroiliac joint. An O-arm scan is performed, and 3D reconstructed images are transmitted to the spinal navigation system. A 4 cm oblique sk
