In the current work, we aimed to evaluate the protective effects of liquorice and halfa-bar extract against doxorubicin (DOX)-induced nephritic syndrome (NS) in rats. Twenty albino male rats were intraperitoneally injected with 50 mg/kg of DOX. The injected rats were supplied daily with 400 mg/kg of liquorice, halfa-bar extract, or their combination for 2 weeks. A method of assessing glomerular size on sections of post-mortem kidney was adapted for use on needle biopsies of kidney. A semi-automatic image analyser was used to measure the cross-sectional area of the outline of Bowman's capsule on all glomeruli in renal biopsies. Endemic Balkan nephropathy (EBN) is a chronic interstitial nephritis which may occur at any age and may affect several members of the same family. The condition is slowly progressive and can more easily be diagnosed in its advanced than in its early stages. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a common complication of diabetes and the major cause of chronic kidney disease. Cyanidin 3-glucoside (C3G) is the most widespread anthocyanin in nature. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The term 'focal segmental glomerulosclerosis' covers a variety of diseases with different histopathological patterns. There is a need for clues to interpret histological findings in terms of etiology. The objective of the present study was to determine the expression of MT-3 in the human kidney. To accomplish this, an antibody was generated against a unique 8 amino acid sequence present in MT-3 that is not shared by any other MT family member.
