INTRODUCTION: Pulp revascularization may be considered a promising alternative for necrotic immature teeth. Many studies have accomplished passive decontamination associated with an antibiotic paste. To date, there is no report evaluating calcium hydroxide associated with 2% chlorhexidine gel for revascularization therapy. The aim of this case report was to describe a new proposal for pulp revascularization with mechanical decontamination and intracanal medication composed of calcium hydroxide and 2% chlorhexidine gel.
METHODS: The patient, a 9-year-old girl, suffered an intrusion associated

This study evaluated the repair process after delayed replantation of rat teeth, using calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) mixed with camphorated p-monochlorophenol (CMCP), chlorhexidine 2% (CHX), or saline as temporary root canal dressing to prevent and/or control inflammatory radicular resorption. Thirty Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus albinos) had their right upper incisor extracted, which was bench-dried for 60 minutes. The dental papilla, the enamel organ, the dental pulp, and the periodontal ligament were removed. The teeth were immersed in 2% acidulated-phosphate sodium fluoride solution for 10

This case demonstrates the ability of calcium hydroxide to cause connective tissue necrosis. A patient with a history of trauma exhibited a large area of external inflammatory root resorption affecting the cervical and middle thirds of tooth 12. After root canal cleaning, a calcium hydroxide root canal dressing was applied to control the resorption process. After three days when the patient attended for replacement of the dressing an irregular zone of necrosis was observed on the buccal aspect of the alveolar mucosa. Careful curettage and irrigation was then performed to remove the extruded ca

A patient presented with an intraoral red, painful, and hard swelling in the lower right jaw. Radiographs showed a 2 x 1 cm area of radiopaque material surrounding the apex of the second premolar. The material, according to the patient's dentist, was calcium hydroxide paste used as a temporary dressing material in the root canal. The patient developed paraesthesia in her lower lip probably due to a neurotoxic effect caused by calcium hydroxide. The foreign material was surgically excavated from the spongious bone, directly adjacent to the nerve, and the patient later regained her sensation in

In this follow-up study a light-cured glass ionomer lining cement was evaluated as a cavity-sealing material in calcium hydroxide pulpotomies in primary molars after one and two years. The pulpotomy dressing was a suspension of pure calcium hydroxide with either tap water or sterile saline. The success rate of the pulpotomies after one year was 87.7 percent and after two years 80.4 percent (clinically and radiographically). This result was only influenced by the type of restoration (amalgam versus stainless steel crown). The results of the present investigation compare favorably with those of

The cytotoxicity of four different calcium hydroxide-based root canal sealers (Sealapex, Apexit, CRCS, and Endoflas FS) was tested using human gingiva fibroblasts. The fibroblasts were acquired from the attached gingiva of apparently healthy patients. The sealers were allowed to set for 24 and 48 h before being covered with a fibroblastic suspension. The estimation of the incorporation rate of L-[14C]leucine in the fibroblasts after being in contact with the sealers was utilized to designate the fibroblasts' protein synthesis potential. The research was conducted over a period of 21 days. Endo

The effect of delayed intracanal calcium hydroxide treatment on experimentally induced extensive inflammatory root resorption in monkeys was studied. A significant shift from inflammatory resorption to ankylosis was noted following calcium hydroxide treatment. Furthermore, calcium hydroxide treatment appeared to change the pattern of ankylosis over time, although the total ankylotic area remained the same. Ankylosis preceded by root resorption (replacement resorption) increased, while ankylosis not associated with root resorption decreased. It was concluded that intracanal calcium hydroxide tr

Diverse applications of nanoparticles due to their unique properties has rapidly increased human exposure to numerous nanoparticles such as calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), calcium titanate (CaTiO3), and yttrium oxide (Y2O3) nanoparticles almost in all aspect of daily life. However, very limited data are available on the effect of these nanoparticles on genomic DNA integrity and inflammation induction in the gastric tissues. Hence, this study estimated the effect of Ca(OH)2, CaTiO3, or/and Y2O3 nanoparticles multiple oral administration on the genomic DNA damage and inflammation induction in the m

INTRODUCTION: External resorption usually occurs after dental trauma and the loss of root cementum. Because it has the ability to induce alkaline pH, calcium hydroxide is used in treatment of external resorption, which is reportedly not free from disadvantages. Driven by such understanding, the aim of this in vitro study was to compare the pH changes induced by calcium enriched mixture (CEM) and those of calcium hydroxide in simulated root resorption defects.
METHODS: Twenty-one paired extracted human premolars were cut to the length of 14 mm. Root canal preparation was performed by using Pro

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess how effective hand K-files and XP-Endo Finisher rotary files, combined with two different irrigation solutions (chlorhexidine [CHX] and sodium hypochlorite), are in eliminating calcium hydroxide (CH) from the walls of root canals.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty-two single-root canal teeth were included in this in vitro study. After decoronation, the root canals were prepared with master apical file #30, and to shape the coronal part, #1-3 Gates-Glidden drills were used. The specimens were divided into four experimental groups (n = 18) and two control grou

PURPOSE: We evaluated the osseointegrative and antibacterial properties of calcium hydroxide-coated titanium implants in this study and compared them to uncoated implants in a rabbit model.
METHODS: Coated and uncoated implants were implanted into both femora of 19 New Zealand white rabbits. After retrieval, the osseointegrative properties were compared via quantification of bone-implant contact and proportion of unmineralized bone around the implant; further, the antibacterial properties were assessed using a Staphylococcus aureus infection model. The bacterial burden on and around the impla

Calcium hydroxide forms unstable reactive nanoparticles that are stabilized when they are dispersed in ethylene glycol or 2-propanol. The aggregation behavior of these particles was investigated by contrast-variation small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), combined with small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Nanoparticles on the order of 100 nm were found to aggregate into mass-fractal superstructures in 2-propanol, while forming more compact agglomerated aggregates with surface fractal behavior in ethylene glycol. Commensurate specific surface areas evaluated at the Porod limit were more than an

The primary objective of the present work is to use additives to extend the sulfation reaction of the calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) used to control SO2 emission from incineration processes. There are two reasons for adding surfactants (surface-active agent): (1) to provide an appropriate dispersion of the Ca(OH)2', thus preventing particle agglomeration due to humidity; (2) to alter the sulfation reaction environment by adsorbing heterogeneous materials on the surface of the Ca(OH)2 to extend the adsorption equilibrium. A dry scrubber integrated with a fabric filter was employed to study the eff

This study was conducted to observe the response of dogs' dental pulp to mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and a calcium hydroxide cement when used as pulp capping materials. After the pulps of 30 teeth were exposed, they were capped with either MTA or a calcium hydroxide cement. Histological analysis was performed 2 months after treatment. Results showed a healing process with complete tubular dentin bridge formation and no inflammation in any of the pulps capped with MTA. On the other hand, only five specimens from the calcium hydroxide cement group formed a complete dentin bridge. In this ex

A pilot study was carried out in five mandibular primary molars using calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) Paste as root canal filling material to find out an alternative to the routinely used zinc oxide eugenol (ZnOE), which is non-resorbable and causes deflection of succedaneous teeth. The six month clinical and radiographic follow-up carried out at 2 months interval, revealed that the treated teeth with Ca(OH)2 as root canal filling material were successful, showing no pain and tenderness to percussion. A tendency for decrease in size of radiolucency was seen. Two teeth showed complete healing of th
