Continuous monitoring for leaching of calcium sulfoaluminate cement pastes incorporated with ZnCl2 under the attacks of chloride and sulfate.

Ionic zinc is considered as an environmental pollutant. This work systematically investigated leaching mechanisms of calcium sulfoaluminate cement (CSA) pastes incorporated with/without ZnCl2 under the attacks of chloride and/or sulfate. The leaching behaviors of CSA pastes in the leaching solution are in-situ and continuously monitored by innovative non-contact electrical impedance measurement (NCEIM) and pH meter. The dissolution and diffusion during the leaching process are experimentally identified. Other techniques are also performed to verify the finding of NCEIM: the ion chromatograph a

Effects of intravenous magnesium sulfate on serum calcium-regulating hormones and plasma and urinary electrolytes in healthy horses.

Intravenous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) is used in equine practice to treat hypomagnesemia, dysrhythmias, neurological disorders, and calcium dysregulation. MgSO4 is also used as a calming agent in equestrian events. Hypercalcemia affects calcium-regulating hormones, as well as plasma and urinary electrolytes; however, the effect of hypermagnesemia on these variables is unknown. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of hypermagnesemia on blood parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcitonin (CT), ionized calcium (Ca2+), ionized magnesium (Mg2+), sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), chloride (Cl-)

Medical grade calcium sulfate hemihydrate in healing of human extraction sockets: clinical and histological observations at 3 months.

BACKGROUND: Following tooth extraction, remodeling and resorption of the alveolar bone at the extraction site characterize wound healing. This produces a reduction in ridge volume and difficulties in delayed placement of implants in an ideal position. Medical grade calcium sulfate hemihydrate (MGCSH) has been proposed as a graft material in extraction sockets to minimize the reduction in ridge volume. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of MGCSH on the histopathologic pattern of intrasocket regenerated bone and to evaluate histologically the healed MGCSH grafted extra

AIMS: High-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy (BT) is an important part of the treatment of cervical cancer. Although there have been advances in three-dimensional image-guided treatment planning systems (TPSs), uncertainties in applicator positioning and anatomical variations can produce discrepancies in planned and delivered doses. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical feasibility and reliability of dysprosium-doped calcium sulfate (CaSO4:Dy) Teflon thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) for independent dose verification in Co-60 HDR cervical BT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For calibration, the CaSO

Hydrothermal conversion of industrial by-product gypsum to α-calcium sulfate hemihydrate: A review of mechanisms, process regulation, and sustainability.

Industrial by-product gypsum (IBPG) is an abundant secondary resource generated from various industrial processes, but its large-scale accumulation and low-value utilization remain significant challenges for sustainable waste management. The conversion of IBPG into high-value α-calcium sulfate hemihydrate (α-HH) represents a promising pathway for resource recovery and circular utilization. This review evaluates hydrothermal strategies for α-HH production from IBPG, focusing on formation mechanisms, process regulation, crystal engineering, impurity effects, and sustainability considerations. Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of α-Calcium Sulfate Hemihydrate in Socket Preservation: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Tooth extraction procedures often lead to bone resorption, which can have adverse effects on the dimensions of the alveolar ridge. Research has shown that socket preservation techniques using bone graft substitutes can effectively minimize early bone loss in such cases. α-calcium sulfate hemihydrate (α-CSH) has garnered significant attention as a potential bone graft material due to its favorable properties, including osteoconductivity, angiogenic potential, and biocompatibility. Considering these facts, we developed a preliminary protocol for applying α-CSH in addressing alveolar
