Synthetic camphor derivative (E)-2-((1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-ylidene)amino)phenol: A novel anthelmintic drug candidate for visceral toxocariasis.

Human toxocariasis is a neglected parasitic disease with a global distribution, treated with current anthelmintics that have low to moderate efficacy, and requires the discovery of novel drugs. Camphor derivatives have antimicrobial properties against various pathogens such as fungi and bacteria. This study aimed to identify a camphor derivative with activity against Toxocara canis larvae and evaluate its cytotoxicity, in silico bioavailability, and in vivo activity in Swiss mice infected with this parasite. Three compounds were tested in vitro in duplicate at a concentration of 1.0 to 0.05 mg

Patient-reported outcomes assessed by the CAMPHOR questionnaire predict clinical deterioration in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

BACKGROUND: The Cambridge Pulmonary Hypertension Outcome Review (CAMPHOR) is a disease-specific assessment tool used for the evaluation and follow-up of patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). We describe a novel use for this questionnaire in its potential to predict clinical deterioration (CD) in two patient cohorts with subtypes of PH, idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH), and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) during an 8-year period. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed CAMPHOR scores obtained at baseline and at follow-up visits in patients under the car

Broad range of inhibiting action of novel camphor-based compound with anti-hemagglutinin activity against influenza viruses in vitro and in vivo.

Influenza virus continues to remain one of the leading human respiratory pathogens causing significant morbidity and mortality around the globe. Due to short-term life cycle and high rate of mutations influenza virus is able to rapidly develop resistance to clinically available antivirals. This makes necessary the search and development of new drugs with different targets and mechanisms of activity. Here we report anti-influenza activity of camphor derivative 1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-ylidene-aminoethanol (camphecene). In in vitro experiments it inhibited influenza viruses A(H1, H1

Stereo-preference of camphor for H-bonding with phenol, methanol and chloroform: A combined matrix isolation IR spectroscopic and quantum chemical investigation.

Camphor is known to be held in the substrate pocket of cytochrome P450cam enzyme via H-bond with a tyrosine residue of the enzyme in a unique orientation. This structural exclusivity results in regio- and stereo-specific hydroxylation of camphor by the enzyme. We have carried out a combined IR spectroscopic and quantum chemical investigation to shed light on the factors influencing the conformational exclusivity of 1R-(+)-camphor in the substrate pocket of Cytochrome P450cam, and to determine whether the selectivity is an inherent property of the substrate itself, or is imposed by the enzyme.

Camphor-Induced Seizures in Rats Increase the Potency of Gamma Oscillations During the Ictal Period, A Component that may Lead to Refractoriness in Seizure Control.

Particularly in the evaluation of substances that can cause neuronal hyperexcitability, triggering refractoriness to antiepileptic drugs, this has always been of interest to science. This study investigated the neurobehavioral and electrocorticographic (ECoG) characteristics of seizures induced by camphorated oil in Wistar rats and compared them to those triggered by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ), a classical chemoconvulsant model. Male rats received intraperitoneal administration of camphor (470 mg/kg), and behavioral evolution was monitored to characterize seizure onset and progression. ECoG recor

From Nature to Function: Green Composites Using Camphoric Acid-Based Unsaturated Polyester Resin and Bamboo/Flax Non-Woven Reinforcements.

Unsaturated polyester resins (UPRs) were synthesized from camphoric acid and diluted with styrene, partially replaced (up to 30%) by trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA). Rheological tests showed increased but sustainable viscosity due to TMPTA's higher polarity. These UPRs served as matrices for composites reinforced with non-woven bamboo and flax mats from recycled waste. Mechanical testing revealed that Cf-UPR/TMPTA30 exhibited the highest tensile strength (25.2 MPa) and modulus (0.96 GPa), compared to 18.7 MPa and 0.74 GPa for the styrene-based resin, respectively, attributed to greater

Influence of organic solvent on the behaviour of camphor and alpha-pinene enantiomers in reversed-phase liquid chromatography systems with alpha-cyclodextrin as chiral additive.

Reversed-phase liquid chromatography has been applied in order to gain insight into the alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD)-solute complexation process, which occurs in the aqueous mobile phases containing a secondary achiral modifier. The model compounds tested were (+/-)-camphor and (+/-)-alpha-pinene. Methanol, ethanol, and 1 or 2-propanol were used as secondary modifiers. Retention factors and enantioseparation factors have been determined on a RP 18 stationary phase as a function of the alpha-CD concentration, secondary modifier content, and temperature changes. The shortest retention and the b

From cradle to grave: Deciphering sex-specific disruptions of the nervous and reproductive systems through interactions of 4-methylbenzylidene camphor and nanoplastics in adult zebrafish.

4-methylbenzylidene camphor (4-MBC) and micro/nanoplastics (MNPs) are common in personal care and cosmetic products (PCCPs) and consumer goods; however, they have become pervasive environmental contaminants. MNPs serve as carriers of 4-MBC in both PCCPs and the environment. Our previous study demonstrated that 4-MBC induces estrogenic effects in zebrafish larvae. However, knowledge gaps remain regarding the sex- and tissue-specific accumulation and potential toxicities of chronic coexposure to 4-MBC and MNPs. Herein, adult zebrafish were exposed to environmentally realistic concentrations of 4

Dose-response related efficacy in orthostatic hypotension of a fixed combination of D-camphor and an extract from fresh crataegus berries and the contribution of the single components.

Independent, double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled studies using sublingual/oral administration of D-camphor, an extract from fresh crataegus berries, and a combination of the two (CCC) yielded the following results: Both the D-camphor and the extract from fresh crataegus berries, the components of CCC, contribute to the pressoric effects of the combination. The underlying hemodynamic mechanisms can be attributed to an increase in total peripheral resistance induced by an increased tone of the arterioles with both components and the effect of crataegus is intensified by an additional

Effect of gold nanoparticles and γ-cyclodextrin polymer on physicochemical, antimicrobial, and antibiofilm properties of a novel schiff base derived from dialdehyde cellulose and camphor thiazole-imine.

The present study developed a novel antimicrobial composite based on 2,3-dialdehyde cellulose (DAC), with biocompatible properties and long-term stability. Initially, DAC was synthesized through the periodate oxidation of microcrystalline cellulose, achieving a 61% degree of oxidation. Subsequently, the DAC was successfully modified through the formation of a Schiff base with CTI in the basic medium. The antimicrobial efficacy of the synthesized DAC-CTI was strengthened by the synthesis of Au NPs via a green chemical approach using lemon extract and their subsequent grafting into the DAC-CTI m

Comparative study on camphor enantiomers behavior under the conditions of gas-liquid chromatography and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography systems modified with alpha- and beta-cyclodextrins.

The dependence of retention and selectivity parameters of camphor enantiomers on the concentration of alpha- and beta-cyclodextrins were studied under conditions of GLC (matrix solvent: Glycerol, 95 degrees C) and RP-HPLC (matrix solvent: Aqueous methanolic, 20 degrees C). It has been found that beta-cyclodextrin forms complex of 1:1 stoichiometry and does not recognize enantiomers of camphor. In contrast alpha-CD forming complexes of 1:2 stoichiometry appeared to be very efficient chiral selector of (+) and (-)-camphor. Relatively considerable differences have been observed between stability

Design of a red-emitting camphor-derived benzothiazole ratiometric fluorescent probe for hydrazine detection in environmental samples and its versatile imaging applications in live cells, zebrafish and Arabidopsis thaliana.

Hydrazine (N2H4) has been extensively utilized during industrial production, while its excessive usage presents substantial risks to human health and ecological systems. In this paper, a new red-emitting camphor-derived benzothiazole-based ratiometric fluorescent probe BTMI-AC was synthesized for selectively and sensitively detecting N2H4 with the large Stokes shift of 223 nm. BTMI-AC exhibited a remarkable fluorescence emission shift from 506 nm to 613 nm after reaction with N2H4, and its ratiometric fluorescence signal ratio (I613/I506) showed a favorable linear relationship with N2H4 concen

Optimization and validation of liquid chromatography and headspace-gas chromatography based methods for the quantitative determination of capsaicinoids, salicylic acid, glycol monosalicylate, methyl salicylate, ethyl salicylate, camphor and l-menthol in a topical formulation.

Capsaicinoids, salicylic acid, methyl and ethyl salicylate, glycol monosalicylate, camphor and l-menthol are widely used in topical formulations to relieve local pain. For each separate compound or simple mixtures, quantitative analysis methods are reported. However, for a mixture containing all above mentioned active compounds, no assay methods were found. Due to the differing physicochemical characteristics, two methods were developed and optimized simultaneously. The non-volatile capsaicinoids, salicylic acid and glycol monosalicylate were analyzed with liquid chromatography following liqui

Alteration of molecular conformations, coordination modes, and architectures for a novel 3,8-diimidazol-1,10-phenanthroline compound in the construction of cadmium(II) and zinc(II) homochiral coordination polymers involving an auxiliary chiral camphorate ligand.

A novel 3,8-diimidazol-1,10-phen (phen = phenanthroline) compound has been prepared from the carbon-nitrogen bond cross-coupling reaction. X-ray structural studies for this compound and its dihydrate reveal they have different molecular conformations (L(b) in 1 and L(c).2H(2)O in 2). Two cadmium(II) and one zinc(II) complexes of 3,8-diimidazol-1,10-phen, formulated as [Cd(2)(d-cam)(2)(L(a))(2)].(H(2)O)(6) (3), [Cd(2)(d-cam)(2)(L(a))(H(2)O)] (4), and [Zn(2)(d-cam)(2)(L(b))(2)].(H(2)O)(5) (5), have been obtained involving an auxiliary chiral ligand d-cam (a dianion of d-camphoric acid) where the
