Parental bonding and eating disorder core beliefs in a non-clinical sample.

This study investigated the relationship between early childhood experiences and eating disorder related core beliefs in the context of cognitive behavioural models of eating disorders highlighting the role of core beliefs or schema. A non-clinical sample of 736 participants (87 % female) was recruited and completed online self report questionnaires. Given the complexity of the relationship between the independent (parental bonding) and dependent (eating disorder related core belief) variables canonical correlation analysis was used to analyse the relationship between the two variable sets. Social context, perceived norms and drinking behavior in young people.

An anonymous questionnaire was administered to 1,283 middle school/high school students and 930 college students. The students responded to instruments assessing social context of drinking, perceived norms of drinking, alcohol use intensity, and frequencies of impaired driving (DWI) and riding with an impaired driver (RWID). Canonical correlation analyses revealed that in middle school/high school students, there are discernable patterns of association between social context, perceived norm and alcohol abuse measures. Drinking intensity for self was closely related to several social context va

Gastric-Selective Associations of Caudate Functional Connectivity with Gastrointestinal Rhythms in Parkinson's Disease: A Resting-State fMRI and Electrogastroenterography Study.

Background/Objectives: Gastrointestinal dysmotility (GID) is a frequent non-motor manifestation of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, its peripheral electrophysiological characteristics, as well as the underlying neural mechanisms within the brain-gut axis, remain insufficiently understood. This study aimed to delineate spatiotemporal abnormalities in gastrointestinal pacing activity in PD and to explore their associations with cerebral functional connectivity (FC). Methods: Multichannel electrogastroenterography (EGEG) recordings, including both preprandial and postprandial states from gastri

A connectivity-based method for defining regions-of-interest in fMRI data.

In this paper, we describe a new methodology for defining brain regions-of-interset (ROIs) in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. The ROIs are defined based on their functional connectivity to other ROIs, i.e., ROIs are defined as sets of voxels with similar connectivity patterns to other ROIs. The method relies on 1) a spatially regularized canonical correlation analysis for identifying maximally correlated signals, which are not due to correlated noise; 2) a test for merging ROIs which have similar connectivity patterns to the other ROIs; and 3) a graph-cuts optimization for a

Disentangling poststroke cognitive deficits and their neuroanatomical correlates through combined multivariable and multioutcome lesion-symptom mapping.

Studies in patients with brain lesions play a fundamental role in unraveling the brain's functional anatomy. Lesion-symptom mapping (LSM) techniques can relate lesion location to cognitive performance. However, a limitation of current LSM approaches is that they can only evaluate one cognitive outcome at a time, without considering interdependencies between different cognitive tests. To overcome this challenge, we implemented canonical correlation analysis (CCA) as combined multivariable and multioutcome LSM approach. We performed a proof-of-concept study on 1075 patients with acute ischemic s

Identification of dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) and denitrification in the dynamic cake layer of a full-scale anoixc dynamic membrane bioreactor for treating hotel laundry wastewater.

Identification of dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) and denitrification in the dynamic cake layer of a full-scale anoixc dynamic membrane bioreactor (AnDMBR) for treating hotel laundry wastewater was studied. A series of experiments were conducted to understand the contributions of DNRA and canonical denitrification activities in the dynamic cake layer of the AnDMBR. The dynamic cake layer developed included two phases - a steady transmembrane pressure (TMP) increase at 0.24 kPa/day followed by a sharp TMP jump at 1.26 kPa/day four to five days after the AnDMBR start-up. The n

Understanding the relationship between cerebellar structure and social abilities.

BACKGROUND: The cerebellum contains more than 50% of all neurons in the brain and is involved in a broad range of cognitive functions, including social communication and social cognition. Inconsistent atypicalities in the cerebellum have been reported in individuals with autism compared to controls suggesting the limits of categorical case control comparisons. Alternatively, investigating how clinical dimensions are related to neuroanatomical features, in line with the Research Domain Criteria approach, might be more relevant. We hypothesized that the volume of the "cognitive" lobules of the c

An EEG-fNIRS neurovascular coupling analysis method to investigate cognitive-motor interference.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The simultaneous execution of a motor and cognitive dual task may lead to the deterioration of task performance in one or both tasks due to cognitive-motor interference (CMI). Neuroimaging techniques are promising ways to reveal the underlying neural mechanism of CMI. However, existing studies have only explored CMI from a single neuroimaging modality, which lack built-in validation and comparison of analysis results. This work is aimed to establish an effective analysis framework to comprehensively investigate the CMI by exploring the electrophysiological and hemodyn

Multi-Omics Graph Attention Network for Key Gene Prediction in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive malignancy lacking effective targeted therapies, underscoring the need for robust and interpretable biomarkers for personalized treatment. Here, we propose a graph attention network (GAT)-based multimodal framework that integrates scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, and radiomics to capture cross-modal regulatory interactions underlying TNBC heterogeneity. Transcriptional, chromatin accessibility, and imaging features are aligned via canonical correlation analysis, with intercellular communication-derived gene relationships and transcription factor-bind

MRI Radiomic Signature of White Matter Hyperintensities Is Associated With Clinical Phenotypes.

OBJECTIVE: Neuroimaging measurements of brain structural integrity are thought to be surrogates for brain health, but precise assessments require dedicated advanced image acquisitions. By means of quantitatively describing conventional images, radiomic analyses hold potential for evaluating brain health. We sought to: (1) evaluate radiomics to assess brain structural integrity by predicting white matter hyperintensities burdens (WMH) and (2) uncover associations between predictive radiomic features and clinical phenotypes. METHODS: We analyzed a multi-site cohort of 4,163 acute ischemic strok

Evaluating the evidence for biotypes of depression: Methodological replication and extension of.

BACKGROUND: Psychiatric disorders are highly heterogeneous, defined based on symptoms with little connection to potential underlying biological mechanisms. A possible approach to dissect biological heterogeneity is to look for biologically meaningful subtypes. A recent study Drysdale et al. (2017) showed promising results along this line by simultaneously using resting state fMRI and clinical data and identified four distinct subtypes of depression with different clinical profiles and abnormal resting state fMRI connectivity. These subtypes were predictive of treatment response to transcranial

Homozygous MESP1 knock-in reporter hESCs facilitated cardiovascular cell differentiation and myocardial infarction repair.

Different populations of cardiovascular progenitor cells have been shown to possess varying differentiation potentials. They have also been used to facilitate heart repair. However, sensitive reporter cell lines that mark the human cardiovascular progenitors are in short supply. Methods: MESP1 marks the earliest population of cardiovascular progenitor cells during embryo development. Here, we generated a homozygous MESP1 knock-in reporter hESC line where mTomato gene joined to the MESP1 coding region via a 2A peptide, in which both MESP1 alleles were preserved. We performed transcriptome and f

Integrated micro/messenger RNA regulatory networks in essential thrombocytosis.

Essential thrombocytosis (ET) is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder with an unregulated surplus of platelets. Complications of ET include stroke, heart attack, and formation of blood clots. Although platelet-enhancing mutations have been identified in ET cohorts, genetic networks causally implicated in thrombotic risk remain unestablished. In this study, we aim to identify novel ET-related miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks through comparisons of transcriptomes between healthy controls and ET patients. Four network discovery algorithms have been employed, including (a) Pearson correlation netwo
