Large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (LCNECs) of the lung make up only 3.1% of all primary lung cancers, making them highly uncommon when compared to other primary lung cancers. For patients with stage I, II, or III LCNEC of the lung, surgery is the preferred first-line treatment. However, due to high recurrence rates, surgery alone is often insufficient to fully treat patients' disease. Adjuvant therapy utilizing platinum-based chemotherapy has been shown to improve survival in patients with LCNEC. For patients with unresectable or metastatic disease, chemotherapy is generally the first line

Endometrial large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a highly malignant tumor that presents with neuroendocrine function. It is difficult to diagnose at an early stage. Moreover, the diagnosis depends on the pathological and immunohistochemical findings. It is also prone to distant metastasis, but is difficult to treat and shows poor prognosis. Presently, there exists no unified treatment plan, and the prognosis of this disease is also poor. We reported here an analysis and literature review of a case of endometrial LCNEC to facilitate the comprehension of this disease and provide help t

Colorectal neuroendocrine tumors are rare entities, with large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas occurring less frequently. We report a case of an 83-year-old male who presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction. A computed tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis revealed a high-grade large bowel obstruction secondary to an irregular exophytic soft tissue mass within the ascending colon, with extensive metastatic disease. He subsequently underwent a right hemicolectomy. Histologic evaluation revealed large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the colon. Standardized treatment modalities have

Signet cell carcinoma of the appendix is the rarest and the most aggressive subtype of appendiceal malignancy, typically presenting with non-specific symptoms. We describe a case of a 62-year-old male with large bowel obstruction, with computed tomography demonstrating dilated large bowels from caecum to proximal sigmoid colon and pneumoperitoneum. Intraoperatively, closed loop obstruction caused by dense adherence of sigmoid colon to caecum was noted, which had resulted in caecal perforation. Histopathology study indicated primary appendiceal malignancy of signet cell morphology with intraper

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) can metastasize to various organs of the body. The skin is an uncommon site for metastasis. However, if metastasis to skin occurs, scalp is a common area. We present a 77-year-old male patient, with a 12-year history of RCC. In the current presentation, he was hospitalized due to hematuria, fatigue, electrolyte imbalance, and deteriorating kidney functions. After the patient was stabilized, he was referred to the plastic surgery clinic due to an unusual, extremely large, hemorrhagic, ulcerative, and vegetative mass on his scalp. Total excision of the scalp mass was p

An asymptomatic epiphrenic diverticulum (ED) was diagnosed in a man undergoing annual esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) at another hospital 40 years before he presented to our hospital at age 63 years for his annual EGD. However, because substantial food retention was found in the ED, we could not confirm a lesion. After the retained food was removed endoscopically, a second EGD showed a reddish, flat lesion with an elevated mass within the ED. Endoscopic ultrasonography indicated that the elevated mass was deep in the submucosal layer. An esophagram showed that the ED was approximately 80 mm i

The pituitary gland is an uncommon site of tumor metastasis in the brain, comprising only 1% of all intracranial metastasis. Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is similarly rare, accounting for only 3% of all lung malignancies in adults. We describe a case of LCNEC of lung origin that metastasized to the pituitary gland. The pituitary lesion was found during the workup for a metastatic LCNEC of lung origin in the ovary. Initially thought to be a pituitary adenoma, interval growth of the lesion during imaging follow-up raised clinical suspicion of a second metastatic site. The patient

INTRODUCTION: Lung neuroendocrine large cell carcinoma is a rare tumor with a poor prognosis. There are very few guidelines for treating this cancer but a better knowledge of its markers could improve the treatment and the prognosis.
OBSERVATIONS: We report two patients who presented initially with an early stage carcinoid tumor treated with surgery. Both patients had further new neuroendocrine disease diagnosed because of intermittent carcinoid syndrome, predominantly occurring at the same time as menstruation. They were then diagnosed with metastatic lung neuroendocrine large cell carcinoma

BACKGROUND: Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a rare and aggressive cervical neoplasm. Few cytologic or colposcopic findings of LCNEC have been reported.
CASE: A 37-year-old woman, gravida 6, para 4, presented with vaginal bleeding for 3 months. The cervical smears showed cells dispersed as single cells or arranged as loosely cohesive sheets or glandlike aggregate and the nuclear size was almost 3-5 times larger than that of small lymphocytes. The cytologic, pathologic and immunohistochemical examinations suggested LCNEC. The patient underwent a radical hysterectomy and then rece

We report a case of a poorly differentiated endocrine large cell carcinoma of the extrahepatic bile ducts in a 73-year-old man, revealed by abdominal pain, jaundice and weight loss. Computed tomography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography found tumoral stenosis of the main bile duct. Brush cytology detected tumor cells. Pathological examination of the resected bile duct disclosed a high-grade large cell carcinoma with morphological endocrine features and positivity for chromogranin A. This tumor was associated with a minor component of adenocarcinomatous cells. Despite polychemotherapy, t

PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to determine the radiologic and pathologic findings of large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC).
METHOD: We retrospectively evaluated chest radiographs, CT scans, and pathologic findings of five patients with pathologically confirmed LCNEC. They were confirmed by percutaneous needle biopsy (n = 2) and by surgery (n = 3). The average age of patients was 60 (51-70) years, and all five were smokers (mean 30 pack-years) and men. Radiologic findings were reviewed for the pattern of lesion, location, and associated findings by two radiologists under consensu

We report two cases of primary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the gallbladder, which, to the best of our knowledge, represent the first description of this entity. One of the tumors consisted entirely of LCNEC, whereas the second tumor was composed of LCNEC and the more common intestinal-type adenocarcinoma. Both tumors were morphologically similar to their pulmonary counterpart and were characterized by large cells with prominent nucleoli, coarse chromatin, and a high mitotic rate. The cells showed an organoid growth pattern with rosette formation and frequent areas of necrosi

A 66-year-old woman presented clinical findings of Eaton-Lambert (myasthenic) syndrome (ELS). Fifteen months later, large-cell pulmonary carcinoma was detected. After systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the tumor regressed and neurologic function improved. Although ELS is usually associated with pulmonary small-cell carcinoma, a minority of tumors are of squamous or glandular differentiation. We believe this is the first case report of ELS associated with large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the English language literature, and it illustrates the importance of an aggressive approach to d

BACKGROUND: There is great diversity in the clinical presentation of CD30 (Ki-1)-positive, anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). The authors report two patients in whom the clinical and morphologic features mimicked gastrointestinal carcinoma.
METHODS: Surgical pathology specimens were examined using standard histologic techniques. Paraffin- and frozen-section immunohistochemistry was performed by an avidin-biotin-peroxidase method.
RESULTS: The first patient is a 58-year-old man who presented with a constricting mass of the sigmoid colon. Immunohistochemical staining for CD45 (LCA) was neg

Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma are not common in head and neck, these tumors rarely occur in the larynx but both have highly aggressive clinical behavior and a high mortality rate. The diagnosis is complicated by these tumors' atypical clinical and pathological features. This case details a coexistence of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of a woman in the larynx. The patient underwent endoscopy- and coblation-assisted transoral microsurgery to achieve hyoid horizontal epiglottidectomy and has no recurrence after
