Disseminated signet ring cell carcinomas frequently arise from the stomach. However, primaries in the colon and rectum have also been reported. We present a 68 year old lady who presented with a change in her bowel habit. Colonoscopy showed a stenosing rectal tumour at 7 cm to 8 cm from the anal verge. Multiple scattered ulcers were also noted along the entire length of the colon. Biopsy of the lesions revealed signet ring cell adenocarcinoma. Gastroscopy showed multiple nodules with ulceration over several areas of the stomach which were similar in appearance to the colonic lesions. However,

Metastases to liver, lungs, bone, and adrenal glands are common events in advanced gastric carcinoma. Occasionally, metastases to other parts of the body, such as the prostate gland [1] the gluteal muscle [2], or the cervix [3] are described. However, these are rare events in the natural history of the disease. We report an unusual case of a signet ring cell gastric carcinoma, initially presenting as an infrarenal aortic aneurysm. Following resection of the aneurysm, the spread of lymphangiosis carcinomatosa into the aortic wall and infiltration of signet ring cells into an adjacent lymph node

Gross hematuria and urinary frequency caused a 71-year-old man to visit our hospital. A non-papillary tumor was identified on the posterior wall of the urinary bladder and the pathological diagnosis was signet ring cell carcinoma. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, computed tomographic scanning, barium enema revealed no involvement of other organs. Radical cystectomy and creation of an ileal conduit were performed. The histopathological stage was pT4N1M0. Apart from subacute ileus, the postoperative course was uneventful. Signet ring cell carcinoma of the bladder is a rare entity and we have id

BACKGROUND: Conditional survival (CS) considers the time already survived after surgery and may provide additional survival information. The authors sought to construct and validate novel conditional survival nomograms for the prediction of conditional overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) patients.
METHODS: Patients diagnosed with stage I-III SRCC between 2010 and 2019 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. The formula calculating CS was: CS(x|y) = S(x+y)/S(x), where S(x) represents the

Bladder metastasis of gastric adenocarcinoma is a rare phenomenon. Hereby, we report a case of a 52-year-old patient who presented with upper gastro-intestinal bleeding and ascites and was diagnosed with gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma. A CT scan revealed peritoneal infiltration and anterior parietal thickening of bladder wall. Cystoscopy showed three budding lesions of the anterior wall of the bladder. He had an endoscopic resection. Histology concluded that the bladder was infiltrated by a poorly differentiated carcinoma with independent cells consistent with a gastric origin. The patient

We report a 32-year-old patient who underwent laparoscopy with classical symptoms and signs of acute appendicitis. An inflamed, edematous and non-perforated appendix, also a large amount gelatinous ascites, omental and peritoneal implants were seen. Appendectomy was performed and multiple biopsies were taken from omentum and peritoneum for definitive diagnosis. Histopathologic diagnosis was a metastatic gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma (GSRCC) involving appendix and other specimens. A flat lesion involving corpus to antrum was diagnosed by gastroscopy and GSRCC was verified histopathological

BACKGROUND: Signet ring cell carcinoma occurs as a histological variant of oesophageal adenocarcinoma.
AIM: In a cross-sectional study, to pursue the hypothesis that oesophageal signet ring cell cancers constitute a complication of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.
METHODS: In a large national database of histopathology records, we accumulated 91 802 patients with Barrett's oesophagus (BE), 2817 with oesophageal nonsignet ring adenocarcinoma (EAC) and 278 with oesophageal signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC). The three groups were compared with respect to their clinical and demographic characte

We describe a case of signet ring cell carcinoma of the non-ampullary duodenum in an 86-year-old woman. Endoscopic examination revealed a fungating lesion (Borrmann classification; type 2) on the anterior wall of the descending duodenum (second part). Pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy and lymphadenectomy were performed. The tumor (pT3 and pN0) was predominantly composed of signet ring cells, characterized by a central, optically clear, globoid droplet of cytoplasmic mucin with an eccentrically placed nucleus. The cells were positive for periodic acid Schiff with diastase and Alcian bl

BACKGROUND: Primary colorectal signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is rare and often affects younger patients. It demonstrates a different biological behaviour and has a less favourable prognosis than the more conventional colorectal adenocarcinoma.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Patient A, a 65-year-old man, presented with a change in bowel habit. Colonoscopy showed a stenosis with signs of a nonspecific inflammation. However, laparoscopy revealed a primary colorectal SRCC with diffuse peritoneal metastases. Standard chemotherapy was unsuccessful. Patient A died 13 months after diagnosis.
CONCLUSION: Base

Most tumors affecting Vater's ampulla are adenocarcinomas, and other histological variants are less frequent. Signet ring cell carcinoma is more commonly found in the stomach than at other sites of the digestive system. Signet ring cell carcinoma of the Vater's ampulla is extremely rare, and only 15 cases have previously been described in the literature. It mainly occurs in elderly patients (median age = 57 years). We report a case of advanced signet ring cell carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater, with invasion of the duodenum (D3) admitted in the Medical Oncology Unit of HASSAN II University Hos

Signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of ampulla of Vater is extremely uncommon, and less than 15 cases have been reported so far in literature. It mainly occurs in elderly people (median age 57 years). We report a rare case of SRCC of the ampulla of Vater in a 38-year-old woman who presented with a small tumor at the Vater, discovered by the contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). Histopathological examination showed prominent signet-ring features. We also describe the imaging features of SRCC of ampulla of Vater in CEUS.

We report a case of signet-ring cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. A 48-year-old female was hospitalized because of general fatigue, pollakiuria and residual sensation. Renal ultrasonography disclosed bilateral hydronephrosis. The serum level of cretinine was 3.1 mg/dl, and we diagnosed the patient with post-renal failure. Cystoscopic examinations revealed non-papillary sessile tumors in the trigone. Histopathological findings of the biopsy specimen demonstrated signet-ring cell carcinoma. There was no evidence indicating bladder metastasis from the cancer in other organs. The patient died

Plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma can histologically mimic gastrointestinal signet ring cell carcinoma, a potential diagnostic pitfall resulting in improper clinical management. We present a rare case of a malignant duodenal ulcer due to metastasis from plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma. Only by histological and retrospective immunohistochemical comparison with the primary bladder tumor was this revealed as a metastasis from a plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma. This case report highlights the importance of clinical correlation and comparison with any previous pathology specimens, the limitatio

Colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasizing to the stomach and duodenum is rare. Even rarer is when the CRC subtype is signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC). Endoscopic findings of CRC metastasis to the stomach have been described as solitary and submucosal while duodenal metastasis has been observed to be exophytic. In this report, we describe a case of a middle-aged man with colon SRCC presenting with oral intolerance. He was found to have concurrent metastases to the stomach and duodenum and died 8 months after his SRCC diagnosis.

Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is a rare lesion in the gastrointestinal tract. Further, the condition is very uncommon at the ampulla of Vater. A majority of the reported cases are typical, gland-forming adenocarcinomas. In our case, a patient aged 59 years, was diagnosed as a case of peri-ampullary carcinoma based on physical exam findings and imaging. Ultrasonography (USG) abdomen and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) revealed an enlarged common bile duct (CBD) and there was a presence of stricture at the terminal CBD. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
