[What support is needed for caregivers?].

Non-professional carers provide over 80% of care for dependents. They are highly at risk of becoming exhausted, in particular in the home where isolation, seclusion and the mechanism of identifying with the dependent are combined. As such, it is fundamental to maintain the carer-dependent relationship. Belonging to a group may probably provide this indispensable support.

Informal Caregiving in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Multimorbidity: A Cross-European Study of Caregiver Burden, Health-Related Quality of Life, and Caregiver Engagement.

BACKGROUND: Atrial fibrillation (AF), often accompanied by multimorbidity, places heavy demands on informal caregivers. Although caregiver burden is recognized in other chronic conditions, little is known about burden, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and engagement among caregivers of patients with AF across Europe. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to examine caregiver burden, HRQoL, and engagement among informal caregivers of patients with AF and multimorbidity, and to explore interrelationships between these outcomes and caregiving characteristics. METHODS: A cross-sectional on

Caregiving Activities and Outcomes Among Family Caregivers of Individuals With and Without Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia in California Caregiver Resource Centers.

PURPOSE: To describe characteristics and outcomes of family caregivers for persons with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia (PD/LBD) and compare them to those of other family caregivers. METHOD: Using a California statewide database, we examined caregiver characteristics and outcomes (strain, loneliness, worse health, and depressive symptoms) and compared them by care recipient diagnosis (PD/LBD, Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, or other chronic conditions) using descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS: PD/LBD caregivers were more likely to iden

Some generic instruments have been used to evaluate burden, anxiety, or quality of life of caregivers. This study aims to develop a specific instrument to measure the psychosocial and economic impacts on primary caregivers of patients with JIA. METHODOLOGY: This is a mixed methods research, that includes qualitative and quantitative data, and was carried out in two phases. First phase: a pragmatic qual

Virtual Reality-Based Psychoeducation for Dementia Caregivers: The Link between Caregivers' Characteristics and Their Sense of Presence.

In neuropsychology and clinical psychology, the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) experiences for knowledge acquisition and the potential for modifying conduct are well documented. Consequently, the scope of VR experiences for educational purposes has expanded in the health field in recent years. In this study, we sought to assess the effectiveness of ViveDe in a psychoeducational caregiver program. ViveDe is a VR application that presents users with possible daily life situations from the perspective of individuals with dementia. These situations can be experienced in immersive mode through 36

Complementary feeding practices of caregivers of infants with Down syndrome as compared to caregivers of typically developing infants.

Caregiver feeding practices during the complementary feeding period (6 months-2 years) may be particularly important for infants with Down syndrome (DS) as they are at higher risk for later health conditions (e.g., obesity, diabetes) that can be influenced by early feeding practices. However, how well caregivers of infants with DS are meeting infant feeding evidence-based practices is relatively unknown. Caregivers of infants with DS (N = 75) and caregivers of typically developing (TD) infants (N = 66) aged 0-2 years completed an online survey about their infant feeding practices and informati

Wellbeing Among Caregivers of Veterans Who Applied for Comprehensive Caregiver Support Through the VA.

BACKGROUND: In 2011, the Department of Veterans Affairs established the most comprehensive caregiver support services in the United States (US): the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). In 2020, VA substantially expanded program access and services, yet no studies have examined PCAFC applicant characteristics since expansion. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the well-being, quality of li

Psychometric validation of the Caregiver Preparedness Scale in family caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease.

AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Caregiver Preparedness Scale (CPS) in Italian informal caregivers of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). The study was conducted following the guidelines established by the PRISMA statement, with prior registration in PRÓSPERO, using searches in Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Dialnet. Caregiver mortality in a large paediatric and adolescent HIV clinic in Johannesburg is described and the effect of the death of a caregiver on children and adolescents' HIV treatment outcomes was investigated. We analysed retrospective longitudinal data and included children or adolescents attending the clinic between 01 January and 31 December 2021 divided into those with documented primary caregiver mortality and those without (ever documented). Viral load, treatment regimens, CD4, and anthrop

A mixed-methods evaluation of the Caregiving Essentials Course for unpaid caregivers of older adults in Canada.

Unpaid caregiving is a growing phenomenon, but many family members and friends fall into the role without any prior experience or training. Therefore, many individuals are unequipped with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to manage the demands of caregiving. The Caregiving Essentials course was created to meet the growing need for information and resources among unpaid caregivers of older adults in Ontario (Canada). The evaluation assessed whether the online knowledge intervention was effective in improving the following four areas from the experiences of the caregiver participants: 1)
