L-Carnitine, an amino acid derivative critical for fatty acid metabolism, exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cytoprotective properties, with emerging applications in dermatology. This review explores its therapeutic potential, both topically and systemically, and its role as a biomarker in various skin disorders. A systematic search of Medline, EMBASE, and PubMed (1946-January 2025) was conducted, focusing on L-carnitine and dermatologic conditions, excluding acetyltransferases, acyltransferases, breast, and genetic metabolic diseases. From 420 articles, 59 were included after screen

Although relatively uncommon, fungi, atypical Mycobacteria, and Nocardia have been isolated from a variety of infections of eye including keratitis, scleritis, canaliculitis, dacryocystitis, endophthalmitis and orbital cellulites. The organisms typically cause a slowly progressive disease. The diseases caused by the organisms can pose both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. In this manuscript we will describe updates on important aspects of the ocular infections caused by these organisms.

Lipid peroxidation is a major process that determines the quality of various oil samples during their use and storage, in which the primary products are hydroperoxides (HP'S). HP'S are very stable compounds at ambient conditions and are harmful to human health. Therefore, the evaluation of the degree of oil oxidation is an excellent tool for ensuring food safety. The peroxide value (PV) is the main parameter used for quality control in oils. Herein, we propose an alternative electrochemical method to the classical iodometric titration method most widely used for determining the PV. Our approac

This is a report of an unexpected laboratory diagnosis of Histoplasma capsulatum. The fungus was isolated from an acute cellulitic lesion on the forearm of an elderly male patient with a functioning renal transplant. The patient resides within the environs of Brisbane and has not travelled outside Australia. We consider the isolation of H. capsulatum from a rare site in a patient resident in a non-endemic area indicative of a latent opportunistic infection in an immunocompromised patient.

Mesotherapy is widely used for its lipolytic effect as an alternative procedure to surgical methods. Although many benefits of lipolytic mesotherapy have been observed, numerous side effects have also been reported. Here, we report a case of cutaneous foreign body granulomas that occurred after lipolytic mesotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Cellulite or lipodystrophy involves the modification of the subcutaneous adipose tissue. A wide variety of topical products is available to combat cellulite, but these have difficulties in being absorbed through the skin. One option is the therapeutic use of the ultrasound to enhance the trans-dermic transport of these drugs.
AIM: The objective of this study was the analysis of the effect of caffeine on the morphology of the swine hypodermis, both when applied topically and in combination with ultrasound treatment.
METHODS: The following treatments were applied to the dorsal area

Obesity is associated with a number of dermatoses. It affects cutaneous sensation, temperature regulation, foot shape, and vasculature. Acanthosis nigricans is the most common dermatological manifestation of obesity. Skin tags are more commonly associated with diabetes than with obesity. Obesity increases the incidence of cutaneous infections that include: candidiasis, intertigo, candida folliculitis, furunculosis, erythrasma, tinea cruris, and folliculitis. Less common infections include cellulitis, necrotizing fasciitis, and gas gangrene. Leg ulcerations, lymphedema, plantar hyperkeratosis,

Dermatologists frequently are consulted in the evaluation and management of the patient with cellulitic-appearing skin. For routine cellulitis, the clinical presentation and patient symptoms are usually sufficient for an accurate diagnosis. However, when the clinical presentation is somewhat atypical, or if the patient fails to respond to appropriate therapy for cellulitis because of routine bacterial pathogens, the differential diagnosis should be rapidly expanded. We discuss the approach to the patient with presumed cellulitis, with an emphasis on the differential diagnosis of cellulitis in

BACKGROUND: Soy sauce is well-known as a Japanese traditional seasoning, namely shoyu. Usually, shoyu means sauce made from soy. Shoyu does have not only benefits but also adverse effects. Soy sauce allergy which is not caused by soy or wheat allergy is rare.
PATIENTS: Our four patients developed cellulites and dermatitis around lips with irritation after a meal with shoyu. The age of the patients was 10, 35, 46 and 51 years; they were all female.
OBJECTIVES: These inflammations can be developed by two causes; first it can be caused by allergic reactions to shoyu; the second, it can be cause

Non-facial (body) rejuvenation is a treatment of increasing demand, with patients seeking to harmonize the benefits of rejuvenated facial appearance with other areas of the body. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)-SCA (Sculptra®) has been approved for facial aesthetic uses since 1999 in Europe and since 2009 in the USA and more recently evaluated for the treatment of cellulite of the buttocks and thighs and other body indications. The current evidence base consists largely of prospective observational analyses and case series although systematic evaluations for a number of body areas are underway. Curr

Tonsillopharyngitis is an extremely common infection seen in adults and children. Although the symptoms and signs of this disease are usually sufficient to make a diagnosis, it is often difficult to make a distinction between bacterial and viral etiology on clinical grounds alone. The complications of tonsillopharyngitis may be classified into suppurative and nonsuppurative complications. The nonsuppurative complications include scarlet fever, acute rheumatic fever, and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. Suppurative complications include peritonsillar, parapharyngeal, and retropharyngeal c

Mucormycosis is a rare opportunistic infection but a fulminant disease. We report the 4 first cases of rhinocerebral mucormycosis diagnosed in Sfax region (Tunisia). They occurred in insulin dependent diabetes and developed varying clinical manifestations from facial cellulites to ocular and cerebral extension. The diagnosis of mucormycosis was not initially evoked, but confirmed tardively by anatomopathologic and mycologic examinations. The evolution was favourable in 2 cases by administration of amphotericine B associated with extensive surgical debridement and correction of the diabetes. Tw

A 33-year-old white man with a history of chronic ulcerative colitis presented with multiple cutaneous ulcers and an indurated cellulitic area on his right thigh. Clinically, the ulcers were considered to represent pyoderma gangrenosum. However, tissue biopsy revealed copious yeast forms that were identified as Cryptococcus neoformans. The indurated area on the right thigh later ulcerated, and tissue culture of this area also revealed Cryptococcus. This case illustrates that when pyoderma gangrenosum is diagnosed, the possibility of deep fungal infection should be considered and excluded by ap

Nowadays, in industrialised societies, it is fashionable for women to be slim. However, throughout history, this has not always been the case, especially as "cellulite" (cellulitis) was full of typically feminine symbols. The ideal feminine silhouette has changed with the rhythm of cultures. Cellulitis is an inappropriate term used by women to describe curves which they judge to be too plump and not very aesthetic, mostly around the thighs and hips. This lipodystrophy of the adipose tissue represents approximately 25% of a woman's body weight. It is clinically characterised by an "orange peel"

Cervicofacial cellulitis is still observed in Burkina Faso and can be severe. The aim of this study was to review diagnostic and therapeutic challenges associated with management of cericofacial cellulitis in our region where medical facilities are poor. A retrospective study of patients treated between January 1999 and December 2008 was performed. A total of 26 cases of cervicofacial cellulites were compiled. All patients underwent broad spectrum antibiotherapy associated imidazols. Surgical treatment was performed in 60% of the cases. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential for favorable

A 50-day-old girl with swelling and ecchymosis of right hand dorsum after DTP vaccination on ipsilateral deltoid area was referred to the pediatric infectious disease outpatient unit with a presumed diagnosis of gangrenous cellulites. Physical examination and laboratory evaluation revealed intramuscular bleeding as a result of vitamin K deficiency. We would like to emphasize the importance of both vitamin K prophylaxis in the newborn to prevent hemorrhagic disease of the newborn and of the education of persons administering vaccines about this very basic aspect of pediatrics for early recognit

Wells syndrome, also known as eosinophilic cellulitis, is an uncommon condition whose etiology often remains a mystery. Patients present with recurrent cutaneous swellings that are often cellulitic in appearance. Histopathologic evaluation of the skin lesions reveals a dense dermal eosinophilic infiltrate, marked edema, and characteristic "flame figures". Notably, the picture is devoid of vasculitis. Therapy with low-dose systemic steroids has proven variably successful. Clinical evidence lending support for the efficacy of other medications has been, for the most part, anecdotal. We present a
