Early-Stage Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Altered Posterior-Anterior Cerebrum Effective Connectivity in Methylazoxymethanol Acetate Rats.

The aim of the current resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study was to investigate the potential mechanism of schizophrenia through the posterior-anterior cerebrum imbalance in methylazoxymethanol acetate (MAM) rats and to evaluate the effectiveness of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as an early-stage intervention. The rats were divided into four groups: the MAM-sham group, vehicle-sham group, MAM-rTMS group, and vehicle-rTMS group. The rTMS treatment was targeted in the visual cortex (VC) in adolescent rats. Granger Causality Analysis (GCA) was used

Contribution and functional connectivity between cerebrum and cerebellum on sub-lexical and lexical-semantic processing of verbs.

Language comprehension involves both sub-lexical (e.g., phonological) and lexical-semantic processing. We conducted a task using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to compare the processing of verbs in these two domains. Additionally, we examined the representation of concrete-motor and abstract-non-motor concepts by including two semantic categories of verbs: motor and mental. The findings indicate that sub-lexical processing during the reading of pseudo-verbs primarily involves the left dorsal stream of the perisylvian network, while lexical-semantic representation during the readi

Defective glycolysis in the cerebrum and cerebellum correlates with the pathology and neurological declines in mice with Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection.

A significant complication of angiostrongyliasis remains eosinophilic meningoencephalitis, leading to patients' neurological deterioration, cerebral palsy, and respiratory changes, resulting in death. Clinically, A. cantonensis-infected patients sometimes showed decreased CSF glucose levels. Animal models infected with A. cantonensis have also reported a reduced serum glucose profile. While the brain uses glucose as the primary fuel source, glycolysis is essential for various neural activities in the brain. The defection of the glycolytic pathway has also been found to closely correlate to neu

Semiautomated volumetry of the cerebrum, cerebellum-brain stem, and temporal lobe on brain magnetic resonance images.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to develop an automated method of segmenting the cerebrum, cerebellum-brain stem, and temporal lobe simultaneously on magnetic resonance (MR) images. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We obtained T1-weighted MR images from 10 normal subjects and 19 patients with brain atrophy. To perform automated volumetry from MR images, we performed the following three steps: (1) segmentation of the brain region; (2) separation between the cerebrum and the cerebellum-brain stem; and (3) segmentation of the temporal lobe. Evaluation was based on the correctly recognized region (CRR)

Primitive neuroectodermal tumors of the cerebrum and cerebellum: absence of t(11;22) translocation by RT-PCR analysis.

Cytogenetic analysis of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) has demonstrated a consistent primary chromosomal change characterized by a reciprocal translocation t(11;22)(q24:q12). In the central nervous system PNETs, most frequent of which are the cerebellar medulloblastomas, the most prevalent chromosomal abnormalities include deletions and unbalanced translocations. The recent cloning of the t(11;22) breakpoint has revealed the fusion of the human FLI-1 gene on chromosome 11q24 with a gene EWS on chromosome 22q12 and permitted detection of fusion transcripts. Contributions to arachidonic acid release in mouse cerebrum by the phosphoinositide-phospholipase C and phospholipase A2 pathways.

Recent studies have indicated two major mechanisms for the release of arachidonic acid (20:4) from membrane phospholipids: 1) activation of phospholipase A2 and 2) stimulated hydrolysis of poly-phosphoinositides (PI) and diacylglycerols (DG) through phospholipase C and diacylglycerol lipase, respectively. In mammalian brain both mechanisms seem to be operable, although the relative contributions by these two pathways have not been carefully assessed. In this study three experimental protocols were used to examine 20:4 release in brain due to ischemia and agonist stimulation, as well as the met

Connectivity between the cerebrum and cerebellum during social and non-social sequencing using dynamic causal modelling.

This analysis explores the effective connectivity of the cerebellum with the cerebral cortex during the generation of correct sequences of social and non-social events, using dynamic causal modelling (DCM). Our hypothesis is that during human evolution, the cerebellum's function evolved from a mere coordinator of fluent sequences of motions and actions, to an interpreter of action sequences without overt movements that are important for social understanding. This requires efficient neural communication between the cerebellum and cerebral cortex. In a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI

Proteome profiling reveals regional protein alteration in cerebrum of common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) exposed to methylmercury.

Methylmercury (MeHg) is known to selectively damage the calcarine and precentral cortices along deep sulci and fissures in adult cases, but the detailed mechanism is still unclear. This study aims to identify and analyze the differential proteome expression in two regions of the cerebrum (the frontal lobe and the occipital lobe including the calcarine sulcus) of the common marmoset exposed to MeHg using a shot-gun proteomic approach. A total of 1045 and 1062 proteins were identified in the frontal lobe (FL) and occipital lobe (OL), of which, 62 and 89 proteins were found significantly changed

Study on host-pathogen interactions of Palyam serogroup viruses using a novel immortalized bovine cerebrum cell line.

Orbivirus palyamense belongs to the group of arthropod-borne viruses often referred to as Palyam serogroup viruses (PALV), which include Chuzan virus (CHUV), D'Aguilar virus (DAGV), and Bunyip Creek virus (BCV). Several members of this serogroup have been implicated in congenital abnormalities with gross lesions in brain tissues. CHUV causes congenital abnormalities in cattle, whereas other serotypes show variable pathogenicity, with DAGV being sporadically associated with congenital abnormalities and BCV showing no clear disease causality. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying these clinical

Prolonged activation of cytomegalovirus early gene e1-promoter exclusively in neurons during infection of the developing cerebrum.

The brain is the major target of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. It is possible that neuron disorder in the developing brain is a critical factor in the development of neuropsychiatric diseases in later life. Previous studies using mouse model of murine CMV (MCMV) infection demonstrated that the viral early antigen (E1 as a product of e1 gene) persists in the postnatal neurons of the hippocampus (HP) and cerebral cortex (CX) after the disappearance of lytic infection from non-neuronal cells in the periventricular (PV) region. Furthermore, neuron-specific activation of the MCMV-e1-p

Reduced nasal transport of insulin-like growth factor-1 to the mouse cerebrum with olfactory bulb resection.

Although the olfactory nerve is involved in nasal transport of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) to the brain, to our knowledge there have been no direct assessments of the effects of olfactory nerve damage on this transport. To determine whether olfactory bulb resection resulted in reduced transport of nasally administered human recombinant IGF-1 (hIGF-1) to the cerebrum, we measured the uptake of nasally administered iodine-125 hIGF-1 ((125)I-hIGF-1) in the cerebrum as a percentage of that in the blood in male ICR mice subjected to left olfactory bulb resection (model mice) and in sham-op

Possible role of selenium in ameliorating lead-induced neurotoxicity in the cerebrum of adult male rats: an experimental study.

Chronic lead (Pb) poisoning is one of the greatest public health risks. The nervous system is the primary and most vulnerable target of Pb poisoning. Selenium (Se) has been shown to be a potential protection against heavy metal toxicity through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the possible protective role of Se in ameliorating the effects of Pb on rat cerebral structure by examining oxidative stress and markers of apoptosis. The rats were divided into 6 groups: control group, Se group, low Pb group, high Pb group, low Pb + Se group,

Primary granulomatous angiitis of the CNS preferentially involving small veins with a granulomatous leukoencephalitis-like lesion in the cerebrum.

We have reported an autopsy case of primary granulomatous angiitis of the CNS preferentially involving the small veins with a granulomatous leukoencepalitis-like lesion in the cerebral white matter of a 48-year-old man. The latter lesion was ischemic necrosis due to circumferential multiple perivenous granulomas in the adjacent Virchow-Robin space. Multifocal progressive involvement of venular adventitia by granulomas, leaving behind mural fibrosis and luminal stenosis, was related clinically to the prolonged stepwise deterioration observed in the patient, and pathologically to diffuse looseni

Characteristics of chronic MS lesions in the cerebrum, brainstem, spinal cord, and optic nerve on T1-weighted MRI.

We analyzed the prevalence of severely hypointense lesions on T1-weighted MRI in the brainstem, spinal cord, and optic nerve from 65 patients with MS. About half of 1,274 supratentorial lesions were classified as severely hypointense. Severe hypointensity was not seen in the optic nerve and spinal cord, and in only one of 168 chronic brainstem lesions. Tissue destruction in the brainstem, spinal cord, and optic nerve of MS patients does not usually result in severely hypointense lesions.

Cerebellum-cerebrum functional connectivity mediates the association between Adverse Childhood Experiences and suicidal behaviors in depressed adolescents.

BACKGROUND: As a form of trauma in early life stages, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) have been linked to various mental health issues, including depression and suicidal behaviors. Understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying these associations is crucial. METHODS: A total of 127 depressed adolescents were recruited from Xuzhou Oriental People's Hospital, including 34 adolescents with suicidal behaviors (SB) and 93 adolescents with non-suicidal behaviors (NSB). Additionally, 43 healthy controls (HC) were recruited from local communities and schools. We aimed to explore the ass

Whole-cerebrum three-dimensional pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling at 5T: reproducibility and preliminary application in moyamoya.

BACKGROUND: Pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (PCASL) at 7T benefits from increased signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and prolonged T1, but suffers from field inhomogeneities and increased specific absorption rate (SAR). We proposed that 5T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system may be a balanced choice for PCASL imaging. The aim of this study was to achieve whole-cerebrum PCASL imaging at ultra-high field 5T MRI system, assess the reproducibility and preliminarily explore its clinical application in moyamoya disease/syndrome. METHODS: Twenty healthy volunteers were prospectively recruited

Resveratrol protects against cadmium-induced cerebrum toxicity through modifications of the cytochrome P450 enzyme system in microsomes.

BACKGROUND: Cadmium (Cd), known as a vital contaminant in the environment, penetrates the blood-brain barrier and accumulates in the cerebrum. Acute toxicosis of Cd, which leads to lethal cerebral edema, intracellular accumulation and cellular dysfunction, remains to be illuminated with regard to the exact molecular mechanism of cerebral toxicity. Resveratrol (RES), present in the edible portions of numerous plants, is a simply acquirable and correspondingly less toxic natural compound with neuroprotective potential, which provides some theoretical bases for antagonizing Cd-induced cerebral to
