UNLABELLED: Preterm birth (PTB) is a major obstetric problem associated with high rates of neonatal morbidity and mortality. The prevalence of PTB has not changed in the last decade; thus, the establishment of a screening test and effective treatment are warranted. Transvaginal ultrasound measurement of the cervical length (TUCL) has been proposed as an effective method to screen pregnant women at a higher risk of experiencing PTB.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the applicability and usefulness of second-trimester TUCL to predict PTB in a cohort of Portuguese pregnant women.
METHODS: Retrospective c

INTRODUCTION: Cesarean section rates continue to increase globally. Prediction of intrapartum cesarean section could lead to preventive measures. Our aim was to assess the association between sonographically measured cervical length at 37 weeks of gestation and cesarean section among women planning a vaginal birth. The population was women with a low-risk pregnancy or with gestational diabetes.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was a prospective cohort study conducted in a tertiary referral hospital in Sydney, Australia. In all, 212 women with a low-risk pregnancy or with gestational diabetes were r

Purpose: To compare the reliability between uterocervical angle (UCA) and cervical length (CL) measurements by various experienced operators. Methods: Transvaginal ultrasonographies (TVS) were performed in 102 pregnant women between 16°/7-24°/7 gestational weeks by different levels of experienced operators. For both CL and UCA measurements, intraobserver variability was assessed for each operator by examining the range between maximum and minimum measurements in each participant, compared to the mean of all three measurements. Interobserver variabilities were explored using Bland-Altman analysi

OBJECTIVE: Post-term pregnancy is frequently associated with higher fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. Its management essentially depends on clinical cervical characteristics as evaluated by the Bishop score (BS). However, BS is poorly predictive of the delivery outcome. We sought to demonstrate that ultrasound measurement of cervical length and evaluation of fetal height could predict the outcome in post-term pregnancies.
METHODS: A prospective single center study was undertaken between the 21st of January and the 1st of June 2013. Fetal height was measured using a transperineal tec

Objective. The aim of this study was to assess whether cervical length measurement (CL) could predict preterm birth (PTB) in symptomatic women with a twin pregnancy. Methods. We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE to identify studies investigating the accuracy of CL measurement in predicting PTB in symptomatic women with a twin pregnancy. We extracted data to construct two-by-two tables and used bivariate meta-analysis to generate point estimates of sensitivity and specificity. Results. Five studies (N = 226) were included. Variation in definition of PTB and cut-off points for CL was strong. One study

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of parity on the relationship between pre-induction cervical length and the induction-to-delivery interval and rate of vaginal delivery within 24 h in women undergoing induction of labor for prolonged pregnancy.
METHODS: In 382 singleton pregnancies, induction of labor was carried out at 41 + 3 to 42 + 1 weeks of gestation. The cervical length was measured by transvaginal sonography before induction. Univariate analyses were performed by constructing Kaplan-Meier survival curves for the induction-to-delivery interval for various subgroups, and comparing these

PURPOSE: To investigate the correlation between cervical length measurements using transvaginal and transperineal approaches at 16-24 weeks of gestation.
METHODS: The prospective study recruited 110 singleton pregnant women. All the measurements were performed by one operator who was blinded to the results of both approaches. Cervical length was first measured by transvaginal sonography (TVUS) then transperineal sonography (TPUS). The transvaginal approach was used as the reference measurement. Patient preference regarding the sonographic approaches was evaluated using questionnaire.

To establish reference values for the cervical length (CL) measurement by transvaginal ultrasound between 20 and 24+6 weeks of gestation in a large Brazilian population. A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed with 996 singleton pregnancies. The CL measurement (mm) using the transvaginal ultrasound was obtained in a sagittal view and the calipers positioned to measure the linear distance between the triangular area of echodensity at the external os and the internal os. The median±standard deviation and ranges for the CL measurement (mm) was 37.0±10.7 (range, 8 to 51). CL measuremen

Background and objective Cesarean section rates are rising globally, including in India. Following the ARRIVE trial, elective induction at 39 weeks has become more common. Cervical length is included in the Bishop score for assessing cervical favorability; however, the Bishop score is subjective and has limited predictive value. This study proposes that an objective third-trimester transvaginal ultrasound measurement of cervical length at 36 weeks may better predict spontaneous labor onset and guide delivery management. The objective of this study is to determine the correlation between cervic

INTRODUCTION: Preterm birth (PTB) is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, with cervical insufficiency being a major contributor. While transvaginal ultrasound is the gold standard, concerns over invasiveness, resource requirements, and acceptability limit its universal use. Transabdominal cervical length measurement may offer a pragmatic alternative, particularly in conservative populations. We aim to compare transabdominal versus transvaginal cervical length measurement for screening of short cervix during the mid-trimester, and to determine the feasibility and clinical utilit

An accurate prognostic method for preterm birth (PTB) could avoid unnecessary treatment(s) with potentially negative effects. The objective was to explore the prognostic accuracy of commercially available bedside cervicovaginal biomarker tests in combination with cervical length (CL) compared to CL measurement alone and/or a biomarker test alone, for PTB within 7 days after testing symptomatic women at 22-34 weeks. The MEDLINE, Cochrane, Embase and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to August 28th, 2019. Seven hundred and eight articles were identified and screened using Ray

OBJECTIVES: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a prevalent endocrine malignancy with a propensity for lymph node metastasis (LNM). Extrathyroidal extension (ETE) is a key factor in preoperative LNM prediction. The criteria for ultrasound diagnosis of ETE remain controversial. The aim is to determine if the length of capsule disruption (LCD) on three-dimensional ultrasound (3D-US) can predict cervical LNM in PTC patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective cohort of 168 patients from Peking Union Medical College Hospital was examined by 3D-US. The LCD was measured using the omniview mode of
