Endocrinological studies on stressed climacteric women and some cases of gonadal dysfunction were carried out by analysing blood levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH) and beta-endorphin (beta-EP) after the administration of synthetic corticotropin releasing factor (CRF, CRF test). The natural aging process affects a woman greatly during the climacteric; hormonal patterns, metabolic parameters, reproductive target organs and bone are involved. A total of 387 women with severe climacteric complaints were treated for a period of 4 years with a new combined hormone preparation containing 200 mg DHEAO (dehydroepiandrosterone oenanthate) and 4 mg oestradiol valerate in 1 ml oily solution. PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION: To analyse the quality of life in postmenopausal women after prophylactic bilateral ovariectomy depending on the time from menopause.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study involved 252 postmenopausal women grouped according to the time from last menstruation: one to five years (group A), five to ten years (group B), and > ten years (group C). All women were ovariectomized during laparotomy performed for benign diseases of the uterus. Climacteric symptoms were measured with the Kupperman Index one day before and three months after surgery.

The bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar spine was determined by dual photon absorptiometry in 98 normal females: 26 premenopausal between 40 and 48 years of age and 72 unselected women 1 to 20 years after the onset of menopause, all of them attending the Menopause Clinic of the Hospital. Fine needle biopsy has been used with great accuracy in the diagnosis of breast tumours. There have been few reports on its efficacy as an adjunct to other breast screening techniques like x-ray mammography. AIM OF THE STUDY: To compare fibromyalgia prevalence in premenopausal and postmenopausal women and its relation to the climacteric symptoms.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two hundred and nine women were studied, who attended the gynecology consultation at the hospital.
