Effects of multi-phase inoculation on the fungal community related with the improvement of medicinal herbal residues composting.

Composting has become the most important way to recycle medicinal herbal residues (MHRs). The traditional composting method, adding a microbial agent at one time, has been greatly limited due to its low composting efficiency, mutual influence of microbial agents, and unstable compost products. This study was conducted to assess the effect of multi-phase inoculation on the lignocellulose degradation, enzyme activities, and fungal community during MHRs composting. The results showed that multi-phase inoculation treatment had the highest thermophilic temperature (68.2 °C) and germination index (1

Exosomal microRNAs in colorectal cancer communication networks: implications for metastasis, therapy resistance, and precision medicine.

Exosome-derived microRNAs (miRNAs) have recently been recognised as important players in the process of intercellular communication in CRC, thus allowing tumour cells to affect not only each other but also the whole milieu of interactions occurring in the tumour microenvironment and metastatic niches. The growing body of evidence points to selective packaging of exosomal miRNAs via controlled biogenesis mechanisms and modulation by oncogenic signalling and microenvironmental stress. After being delivered to target cells, these miRNAs affect interrelated signalling pathways involved in the epit

Knowledge Without Confidence: Internal Medicine Residents' Preparedness for Oncologic Emergencies and Goals-of-Care Communication.

Internal medicine (IM) residents frequently provide frontline care for hospitalized patients with cancer, requiring competence in managing oncologic emergencies and conducting end-of-life communication. We evaluated resident preparedness by examining knowledge, confidence, clinical exposure, and perceived educational needs. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of all IM residents at a university-affiliated community teaching hospital (October-November 2025). The survey, developed through literature review, expert input, and pilot testing, included vignette-based knowledge questions, confidenc

Enhancing Relationship-Centered Communication and Feedback in Emergency Medicine Through Applied Improvisation (EM-PROV).

AUDIENCE: This small group session is intended for emergency medicine residents, medical students, and faculty. INTRODUCTION: Improvisational techniques offer a novel and effective approach to teaching relationship-centered communication (RCC) and enhancing learner feedback in emergency medicine (EM).1 Improvisational theater (improv) is a form of spontaneous performance where all things or most things are made up on the spot. The "yes, and" principle-accepting a partner's idea ("yes") and building upon it ("and")-reflects core improv values such as affirmation, spontaneity, active listening,

Promoting cultural awareness, professionalism, and communication skills in medicine through anatomy: The Deaf culture session.

The anatomy curriculum is a place where professionalism can be learned and practiced, including training in cultural competence and communication skills for working with diverse populations. One population that has received little attention in terms of medical education are d/Deaf and hard of hearing (d/DHH) patients, although there is much evidence to support health care disparities in this population. Several major contributing factors include differing views of deafness between medical professionals and those who are culturally Deaf, a lack of understanding of Deaf culture and American Sign

Ethnopharmacological evaluation of medicinal plants used against malaria by quilombola communities from Oriximiná, Brazil.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Malaria is the most important parasitic disease in the world, including in the Amazon region, due to its high incidence. In addition, malaria is difficult to control because of the geographical characteristics of the endemic Amazon region. The quilombola communities of Oriximina, located in remote rainforest areas, have extensive experience with medicinal plants due to their close contact with and dependence on local biodiversity as a therapeutic resource. To search for active bioproducts against malaria, based on in vitro tests using blood culture-derived paras

An Alabama-tailored human trafficking response protocol within the Community, Advocacy, Law, and Medicine framework: a state-adaptable model.

Human trafficking is a major public health and human rights concern associated with high rates of psychiatric disorders, substance use disorders, chronic medical illness, and ongoing exposure to trauma. Patients frequently encounter healthcare systems while still experiencing exploitation, yet trafficking often goes unrecognized. Healthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to identify trafficking and facilitate access to recovery-oriented services. This manuscript describes the development and content of a trauma-informed healthcare response protocol designed to guide Alabama clinicians i

Family Medicine at the Forefront: Advancing Telemedicine for Opioid Use Disorder (TeleOUD) Through Access, Trust, and Community-Centered Care.

Telemedicine for opioid use disorder (teleOUD) represents a critical opportunity to expand access to evidence-based treatment while reducing stigma and structural barriers that have long impeded recovery. Yet, gaps persist in awareness, education, and trust among both clinicians and patients. Family medicine, grounded in continuity, collaboration, and community-centered care, is uniquely positioned to close these gaps. By embedding teleOUD education into training programs, normalizing its use in primary care, and fostering interprofessional partnerships, family physicians can transform how OUD

Post In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Simulation to Improve Medical Decision Making and Communication in Internal Medicine Residents.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac arrest is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients, and is a critical event that hospital-based physicians must be prepared to manage. While cardiac arrest care follows established algorithms, management of patients after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is more dynamic and nuanced. Resident physicians therefore need structured training to provide high-quality post-ROSC care. METHODS: We developed a 90-minute simulation session on postarrest care for internal medicine interns. The session included 2 simulation cases: one involving a pati
