Preformulation studies on the S-isomer of oxybutynin hydrochloride, an Improved Chemical Entity (ICE).

(S)-Oxybutynin HCl (S-OXY) is a white crystalline solid powder with an acicular particle morphology. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermograms revealed one characteristic endotherm at 116.2 degrees C. On rescanning a sample heated to 120 degrees C, no thermal events were distinguished in the temperature range 25 degrees C to 150 degrees C. Weight loss curves determined by thermogravimetric analysis showed a continuous, gradual weight loss of about 0.15% over the temperature range 30 degrees C to 110 degrees C, followed by a change in slope and more rapid weight loss beginning at 150

Impact of Solidago virgaurea Extract on Biofilm Formation for ESBL-Pseudomonas aeruginosa: An In Vitro Model Study.

The increasing disparity between antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the development of new antimicrobials continues to pose a significant global health concern. However, plant extracts have shown promise in combating this issue either through their inherent antimicrobial activity or by serving as potential reservoirs of effective antimicrobial compounds. These compounds have the ability to target pathogenic biofilms and inhibit the production of extended-spectrum β -lactamases (ESBLs). However, there is limited research available on the antibacterial properties of goldenrod extract. Thus, the

Aerobic and Facultative Bacterial Spectrum and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns in Pediatric Acute Appendicitis: A Prospective Local Surveillance Study.

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies in children. In complicated appendicitis, timely empirical antimicrobial treatment is important, but antimicrobial selection is increasingly affected by regional variation in pathogen distribution and resistance. This study characterized the aerobic and facultative bacterial isolates recovered from intraoperative purulent specimens obtained from pediatric patients with acute appendicitis and described their antimicrobial susceptibility patterns. METHODS: This prospective observational study enrolled 70 consecutive p

Specimen-specific distribution of multidrug-resistant organisms and its association with glycemic control in adults with diabetes: a retrospective clinical microbiology study in southern Taiwan.

BACKGROUND: Patients with diabetes mellitus are susceptible to bacterial infections and may be exposed to repeated or prolonged antimicrobial therapy, which can increase the risk of multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO)-positive cultures. However, the distribution of MDROs across different specimen types and the relationship between glycemic control and MDRO isolation remain insufficiently characterized in regional clinical microbiology settings. This study investigated specimen-specific MDRO profiles and evaluated the association between glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and MDRO-positive cult
