Psychological interventions for mental health in adults with multiple long-term conditions: A scoping review and evolution of the evidence base.

BACKGROUND: Managing multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) within individuals is a key global public health priority. Psychological interventions are effective in improving mental health outcomes in single-condition populations, yet the evidence for adults with MLTCs remains scarce. This scoping review aimed to map existing evidence on psychological interventions for people with MLTCs, highlight literature gaps and offer recommendations for future research, practice, and policy. METHODS: The pre-registered review follows Arksey & O'Malley's (2005) framework and is reported in line with the PR

Efficacy of an Interdisciplinary Intensive Outpatient Program in Treating Combat-Related Traumatic Brain Injury and Psychological Health Conditions.

Background: Since 2000, over 413,000 US service members (SM) experienced at least one traumatic brain injury (TBI), and 40% of those with in-theater TBIs later screened positive for comorbid psychological health (PH) conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. Many SMs with these persistent symptoms fail to achieve a recovery that results in a desirable quality of life or return to full duty. Limited information exists though to guide treatment for SMs with a history of mild TBI (mTBI) and comorbid PH conditions. This report presents the methods and ou

A systematic review of psychological variables associated with juvenile primary fibromyalgia syndrome: Comparison between individuals with and without this condition.

Juvenile primary fibromyalgia syndrome (JPFS) is a pediatric rheumatologic condition characterized by (1) persistent, widespread musculoskeletal pain in multiple locations and (2) other symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, poor sleep or cognitive symptoms, among others. These alterations may be associated with the development of psychological distress, poorer mental health and lower quality of life, although no clear consensus has been reached. Thus, this study aimed to examine the psychological symptoms associated with JPFS, compared with a healthy comparison group of children and adolescents

Artificial Intelligence in the Assessment of Heart Rate Variability as an Instrument to Understand the Connection Between Psychologic and Psychiatric Conditions and the Heart.

Heart rate variability (HRV) refers to variations in the time intervals between consecutive heart beats. Changes in HRV reflect changes in either sympathetic or decreased parasympathetic tone that can originate in the brain. This brain-heart connection has led to the proposal that HRV may have utility in the diagnosis of psychiatric conditions and/or be a predictor of the response to psychiatric medications. There have been attempts to improve the correlation between HRV and psychological and psychiatric conditions by using artificial intelligence or specific machine learning algorithms. The o
