Non-Markovian dynamics and effective reproduction number in COVID-19: Evidence from Cyprus contact tracing data.

Using contact tracing data provided by the Cyprus Ministry of Health, infection trees for the first four waves of the COVID-19 epidemic are constructed. In these trees, nodes represent infected individuals, while links indicate the direction of transmission between them. For each infection tree of N nodes, the hopcount distribution from the root node to all other nodes is calculated. The empirical distribution is then compared to the hopcount distribution of infection trees generated by a non-Markovian SI process on a complete graph, with Weibull infection times characterized by a shape parame

Accelerated partner therapy contact tracing for people with chlamydia (LUSTRUM): a crossover cluster-randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Accelerated partner therapy has shown promise in improving contact tracing. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of accelerated partner therapy in addition to usual contact tracing compared with usual practice alone in heterosexual people with chlamydia, using a biological primary outcome measure. METHODS: We did a crossover cluster-randomised controlled trial in 17 sexual health clinics (clusters) across England and Scotland. Participants were heterosexual people aged 16 years or older with a positive Chlamydia trachomatis test result, or a clinical diagnosis of conditions for

Phylogenetic analysis and victim contact tracing of rabies virus from humans and dogs in Bali, Indonesia.

The emergence of human and animal rabies in Bali since November 2008 has attracted local, national and international interest. The potential origin and time of introduction of rabies virus to Bali is described. The nucleoprotein (N) gene of rabies virus from dog brain and human clinical specimens was sequenced using an automated DNA sequencer. Phylogenetic inference with Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis using the Bayesian Evolutionary Analysis by Sampling Trees (BEAST) v. 1.7.5 software confirmed that the outbreak of rabies in Bali was caused by an Indonesian lineage virus fol

Potential role for IL-2 ELISpot in differentiating recent and remote infection in tuberculosis contact tracing.

Interferon (IFN)-gamma release assays (IGRA) have improved tuberculosis contact tracing, but discrimination of recent from remote Mycobacterium tuberculosis contacts is not possible by IGRA alone. We present results of a tuberculosis contact investigation with a new early-secretory-antigenic-target (ESAT)-6 and culture-filtrate-protein (CFP)-10 specific interleukin (IL)-2 ELISpot in addition to ESAT-6 and CFP-10 specific IFN-gamma ELISpot and tuberculin skin testing (TST). Results of the TST, IFN-gamma ELISpot and IL-2 ELISpot were positive in 6/172 (3.4%), 7/167 (4.2%) and 6/196 (3.1%) of con

Gonorrhea in the emergency department: management, case follow-up, and contact tracing of cases in women.

From June, 1978, to June, 1979, all ten Columbus hospital emergency departments (EDs) participated in a program which provided test-of-cure, follow-up of untreated cases, and contact investigation of women infected with gonorrhea. Four hundred and eighty-nine women were found to be infected with gonorrhea; 99% of these were treated rapidly with recommended schedules. Sixteen percent of women with positive cultures required inpatient care for an average of 6.3 days. Seventy percent of women with positive cultures received counseling and test-of-cure for gonorrhea. Of 134 men treated as a result

E-Government in Global Health Crisis: Comparing the E-Performance of COVID-19 Contact Tracing Websites.

E-government is widely acknowledged for its benefits to governments and citizens. However, its effectiveness during crises remains underexplored. During the COVID-19 pandemic, contact tracing websites were deployed globally to kerb the virus's spread, raising significant controversies about data privacy and security. This study evaluates the performance of e-government contact tracing websites across 57 countries/regions. Six e-government dimensions are examined, including (1) transparency, (2) accountability, (3) data security, (4) accessibility, (5) e-participation and (6) privacy, in a tail

What makes contact tracing successful? An empirical analysis of COVID-19 data from 38 OECD countries.

BACKGROUND: Despite widespread adoption of contact tracing during the COVID-19 pandemic, countries exhibited marked differences in tracing performance. Existing studies have documented policy variation but lack standardized, comparable outcome indicators of tracing effectiveness. Recent reviews emphasize the need for quantitative, cross-national, outcome-based measures and broader frameworks that account for contextual factors such as governance, education, and culture. To address this gap, this study aims to validate the time lag (τ) between peaks in confirmed cases and testing as a proxy for

Key performance indicators of COVID-19 contact tracing in Belgium from September 2020 to December 2021.

The goal of tracing, testing, and quarantining contacts of infected individuals is to contain the spread of infectious diseases, a strategy widely used during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, limited research exists on the effectiveness of contact tracing, especially with regard to key performance indicators (KPIs), such as the proportion of cases arising from previously identified contacts. In our study, we analyzed contact tracing data from Belgium collected between September 2020 and December 2021 to assess the impact of contact tracing on SARS-CoV-2 transmission and understand its character

Real-time Estimation of Epidemiologic Parameters from Contact Tracing Data During an Emerging Infectious Disease Outbreak.

BACKGROUND: Contact tracing can provide accurate information on relevant parameters of an ongoing emerging infectious disease outbreak. This is crucial to investigators seeking to control such an outbreak. However, crude contact tracing data are difficult to interpret and methods for analyzing these data are scarce. We present a method to estimate and visualize key outbreak parameters from contact tracing information in real time by taking into account data censoring. METHODS/RESULTS: Exposure type-specific attack rates and the reproduction number R(t) are estimated from contact tracing data

Contact tracing and antiviral prophylaxis in the early stages of a pandemic: the probability of a major outbreak.

Antiviral prophylaxis forms a significant component of health management plans for many countries around the world. A number of studies have shown that the delays typically encountered in distributing these antivirals to households, following the first infectious case, can result in their efficacy being severely reduced. Here, we investigate the use of contact tracing as a method to reduce the delays and hence mitigate the reduction in efficacy of antivirals. We assess the usefulness of contact tracing in terms of the probability of a major outbreak. It is found, with parameter distributions a
