Craniocerebral birth trauma caused by vacuum extraction: a case of growing skull fracture as a perinatal complication.

A case of growing skull fracture following birth trauma and caused by vacuum extraction is reported in order to emphasize the incidence of this peculiar head injury at the beginning of extrauterine life and to point out its relation to possible neuropsychological disturbances that may appear later in childhood. Delivery by vacuum extraction increases the incidence of perinatal injuries and consequently the incidence of neurological deficits in children. Neurosurgical repair is advocated as the appropriate treatment, with the aim not only of cosmetically correcting the lesion's typical subgalea

[Monitoring and antibiotic resistance profile of tracheal aspirate microbiota in ICU children with severe craniocerebral trauma].

Nosocomial infections and their rational antibiotic treatment represent a major challenge for the healthcare nowadays. In this context, gramnegative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumanii and Enterobacteriaceae spp. are etiologically important and characterized by a significant level of antibiotic resistance. To examine dynamics of the respiratory tract colonization by hospital flora, tracheal aspirates obtained at three time points from 69 children with severe craniocerebral trauma during their stay in ICU were analysed. Colonization was observed on the 4th day of t

[The effect of age, alcohol intoxication and type of brain injury on the prognosis of patients operated on for craniocerebral trauma].

INTRODUCTION: Advanced age is reported to be an important negative prognostic factor for the final functional outcome in patients after craniocerebral injury. Worse prognosis can also be expected in the presence of significant brain contusion, requiring surgical treatment because of expansive behaviour. Definite adverse influence of alcohol intoxication at the time of injury has not been proven by current literature data. The aim of the study is to analyse the importance of the above mentioned factors for the treatment outcome in patients operated on for craniocerebral injury. MATERIAL AND ME

[Continuous fiberoptic monitoring of oxygen saturation in cerebral veins in severe craniocerebral trauma--experiences and results].

AIM: Monitoring of jugular-venous O2-saturation (SjO2) enables the assessment of cerebral oxygen supply and the rapid detection of cerebral desaturation in patients with severe head injury. Furthermore, it may help to optimize circulation, ventilation, and intracranial hypertension therapy in these patients. This study was performed to evaluate the reliability of SjO2-monitoring as well as to measure cerebral O2-extraction and the frequency of episodes of cerebral desaturation after traumatic brain injury. METHODS: In 16 patients with severe head injury (GCS 3-8), SjO2 (fibreoptic system), ar

[Diagnostic imaging in cases of suspected child abuse--focus craniocerebral trauma divergent guidelines and resulting problems].

For the clinical diagnosis of non-accidental craniocerebral trauma in children there are different recommendations and guidelines, which are not completely consistent. Depending on the examiner, the focus may be on therapeutic relevance, minimization of the exposure to radiation or potential conclusions as to the course of events. Under certain circumstances it may be difficult for the responsible institution to deal with all three perspectives, as is shown by the presented case. From the authors' point of view it would be desirable to work out a common guideline taking into account paediatric

[Identification of high-risk patients after minor craniocerebral trauma. Measurement of nerve tissue protein S 100].

The indication for an initial cranial computed tomography (CCT) in minor head trauma (MHT) patients remains the subject of discussion. The aim of this study was to investigate whether a newly developed, rapid test system (ELECSYS S100, Roche Diagnostics) might allow a diagnostically valid, reproducible measurement of S 100 in MHT patients. Blood samples were drawn from 75 MHT patients, a CCT scan was performed, and those with a post-traumatic intracranial lesion counted as CCT+. Results were compared to a healthy control group (n=17). Of the 75 patients included in the study, 14 were stratifie

[Optic nerve damage following craniocerebral trauma. A critical analysis of trans-ethmoid decompression of the optic nerve].

Over a period of 10 years 39 patients who suffered an optic nerve compression after a craniocerebral trauma underwent transethmoidal decompression surgery. The operation was performed bilaterally on 5 patients. Fifty per cent of the patients involved suffered a blunt head or brain injury, the others a brain concussion or space-occupying haemorrhage. At the side of optic nerve compression we found specific signs and symptoms, such as negative or sluggish direct light reaction of the pupil, a wound on the lateral side of the eyebrow, bleeding from the nose, eyelid haematoma, maximum of skull fra

Clinical Effectiveness of Pre-hospital and In-hospital Optimized Emergency Care Procedures for Patients With Acute Craniocerebral Trauma.

Acute craniocerebral injury is a common traumatic disease in clinical practice, characterized by rapid changes in condition and a high rate of death and disability. Early and effective emergency care throughout the pre-hospital and in-hospital period is the key to reducing the rate of death and disability and promoting the recovery of patients. In this study, we conducted an observational study of 130 patients with acute craniocerebral injury admitted between May 2020 and May 2021. Patients were randomly divided into a regular group and an optimization group of 65 patients each, with patients
