[Colo-hepatic fistula secondary to hydatid disease. Clinical case].

The fistulization of a hepatic hydatid cyst to the colon is a very rare complication and only two cases have been described in the medical literature. We report a 49 year-old male in whom this complication was suspected in the preoperative period. He was submitted to a cystotomy and colonic exteriorization. Recovery was uneventful.

Intraoperative transvesical cystoscopy for urogynecologic procedures.

Intraoperative cystoscopy is a useful adjunct to surgical procedures that may compromise the integrity of the lower urinary tract. Ureteral injury and the placement of intravesical sutures are risks, especially at teaching facilities, during operations such as retropubic urethropexy, paravaginal repair, or even simple hysterectomy. The conventional use of transurethral cystoscopy during open surgical cases may require repositioning of the patient if not previously placed in Allen stirrups. Alternative practices of bladder examination include placement of a standard cystoscope via an intentiona

[Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder in childhood. Report of five own cases].

Malignant lesions of the bladder in infancy and early childhood arise from mesenchymal tissue. Among the mesenchymal tumors embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is more common in young children than in adults. The gross appearance of rhabdomyosarcoma of the bladder is typically that of polypoid grapelike clusters of tissue, termed "sarcoma botryoides". Histologically, the lesion is consistent with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. The growths originate in the submucosal layer of the trigone and the internal urethral orifice. Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the bladder in children tends to remain within the disease.

Surgical treatment of hydatid cysts of the lung: report on 1055 patients.

Of 1055 patients treated surgically for pulmonary hydatid disease, most (950) had isolated lung cysts, the other 105 having both liver and lung cysts. The chest radiograph was most valuable in diagnosis; the Casoni and Weinberg tests and blood eosinophil counts were found to be diagnostically unreliable. One thousand and seventy seven primary operations were performed. Cystotomy and capitonnage were carried out in 906 patients, 40 of whom also had decortication of the pleura. Other procedures included cystotomy with wedge resection of locally damaged lung (29 patients) and cyst removal with ca

A 27-y-old female black-handed spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi) was evaluated 13 d after an ovariohysterectomy because of abdominal distension, anorexia, and absent urination. The animal was diagnosed with a uroabdomen and urethral obstruction from computed tomographic findings and fluid creatinine levels. During exploratory laparotomy, a defect in the right ureter was confirmed as the source of the uroabdomen. Utilizing intraoperative fluoroscopy, a urethral obstruction with an irregular luminal filling defect was evident. A self-expanding nitinol urethral stent was placed, and a ureteral tra

Laparoscopic approach for intravesical surgery using pneumovesicum in the management of anterior colporrhaphy mesh erosion and stones around the bladder neck.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Perforation of the bladder or urethra and erosion of the mesh after cystocele repair surgery are not uncommon and have potentially serious complications. Traditionally, surgical management of such complications has involved excision of the mesh using either a transurethral approach or open surgery. In this video, we present our experience of laparoscopic transvesical surgery for exposed mesh and stone. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patient was placed in the lithotomy position under general anesthesia and a 30° operating cystoscope was inserted under direct vision. After f

Nonsurgical removal of urocystoliths in dogs and cats by voiding urohydropropulsion.

A technique called voiding urohydropropulsion has been developed that facilitates nonsurgical removal of urocystoliths. Voiding urohydropropulsion was performed in 11 dogs and 10 cats with urocystoliths. Urocystoliths were completely removed from 15 of 21 animals (5 female dogs, 3 male dogs, 5 female cats, and 1 male cat). The number of uroliths removed from any animal varied between 1 and 983. The mean time required to complete voiding urohydropropulsion in the 15 animals from which all uroliths were completely removed was 22 minutes. In 6 animals (2 female dogs, 3 female cats, and 1 male cat
