An autopsy case of Type II glycogenosis was reported with detailed description of ultrastructural findings. In addition to two typical patterns of glycogen deposition, membrane-bound lysosomal glycogen and membrane-free cytoplasmic glycogen, we observed numerous vacuolar structures in liver cells and a large deposition of nomogeneous materials between fragmented myocardial fibrils. These findings were briefly discussed in this manuscript.

Actinic reticuloid was observed in a patient following the development of porphyria cutanea tarda. A cutaneous lymphoma-like infiltrate was found histologically and at the ultrastructural level. In the infiltrate, the main population was histiocytic, with some mast cells and mononuclear cells. Most of the histiocytic cells contained numerous typical Langerhans granules and worm-like structures. Crystalloid cytoplasmic inclusions were occasionally detected.

The authors examined the ultrastructure of the causative agents of glanders and melio idosis. It was revealed that the structure of their cell wall and of the cytoplasmic membrane was characteristic of Gram negative bacteria. The cytoplasm of both types of the causative agents showed the presence of ribosomes, membrane structure, nucleoid, and also osmiophilic and osmiophobic inclusions.

Taenia solium adults were grown in hamsters infected by feeding them with cysticerci from pig carcasses. Viable strobilae were collected from the hamster duodenum 20-60 days post-infection, fixed and processed for transmission electron microscopy (TEM). We report a case of ependymoma with unusual vacuolar features arising in the left occipital lobe of a 2-year-old child. The tumor was composed of cells with single or multiple cytoplasmic vacuoles and clear cells. Some cells showed a signet ring-like configuration. Alveolar and bronchiolar spaces in the lungs of cigarette smokers usually contain numerous macrophages with pigmented cytoplasmic granules. By electron microscopy the pigmentation appears to be due, at least in part, to increased numbers of lysosomes and phagolysosomes. Liver morphology and function were restudied after an interval of 1 1/2-2 years in 21 Chinese men with hepatitis B antigen (HBsAg). α-Synuclein pathology was examined in the brains and spinal cords of 10 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)/parkinsonism-dementia complex (PDC) in the Kii Peninsula, Japan. A 58-year-old Caucasian male presented with left periorbital oedema extending to the nasal area for 1 year along with nasal discharge for 1 month. The juxtaoral organ of Chievitz (JOOC) is a part of microanatomy composed of bland epithelial islands closely associated with small nerves and usually described within the soft tissue on the lingual aspect of the posterior mandible. Immunohistochemical localization of rat salivary gland kallikrein was related to glandular structures in tissue processed and stained by various methods.
