Dance Interventions Improve Quality of Life and Related Psychological Factors Among Breast Cancer Survivors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis examined evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effects of dance interventions on quality of life (QoL) in women with breast cancer. Twelve RCTs were included, and pooled effect sizes were calculated as standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Compared with controls, dance interventions significantly improved QoL (SMD [95% CI] = 0.62 [0.20, 1.05], p = 0.004) and reduced depressive symptoms (SMD [95% CI] = -0.81 [-1.50, -0.12], p = 0.02). Subgroup analyses indicated that these effects were primarily driv

The use of stabilization exercises and movement reeducation to manage pain and improve function in a dancer with focal degenerative joint disease of the spine.

Little has been written about rehabilitation of low back pain (LBP) specific to the professional dancer. However, there is a rapidly increasing amount of rehabilitation research related to the care of LBP in the general population that may be applied to the dancer population. The purpose of this case report is to describe the physical therapy management of a 37-year-old female professional dancer with a 5-year history of spinal pain and loss of function in the presence of degenerative joint disease at a single segment (T12-L1). Patient interventions focused on stabilization exercises and movem

Unlikely SuspectPeroneus Tertius Tear in a Professional Ballet Dancer.

Peroneus tertius tendon tears are uncommon and patients typically recover with conservative management. The objec-tive of this case report is to highlight this usual injury and provide an alternative treatment option when conserva-tive management fails. A 24-year-old female professional ballet dancer presented with acute right lateral foot pain after hyperflexing over her pointe shoe. She completed a full course of physical therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. However, upon returning to dance, she developed worsening pain and swelling over the lateral ankle. Evaluating the short-term effects of dance on motor and non-motor outcomes in people living with Parkinson's: A crossover study.

PURPOSE: To investigate the short-term effects of a single dance class on motor and non-motor outcomes in people living with Parkinson's. METHODS: A crossover design was used. Nineteen people participated. All participants took part in both dance and lecture control conditions seven days apart in a counterbalanced order. Outcomes of gait, balance, functional mobility, and aspects of cognition were measured before and after each condition. A visual analogue scale evaluated self-perceived changes in fatigue, energy, depression, anxiety, concentration, and movement. Statistical analyses were per

Impact of Dance or Music and Meditation on the Progression of Parkinson Disease With Mild or Moderate Severity: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor dysfunctions and nonmotor symptoms. Current treatments do not alter disease progression, highlighting the need for alternative therapies. Music, dance, and mindfulness meditation have shown the potential to improve symptoms and quality of life in patients with PD. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of dance or music and meditation on PD progression, cognitive functions, mood, behavior, and caregiver burden. Cervical spondylosis has caused serious distress to the patient's body and mind, and traditional treatment methods take time and effort. Based on this, this paper proposes a study on the regulation of cervical spondylopathy in the elderly by sports dance. In this article, 81 patients with cervical spondylosis treated in the rehabilitation department of the hospital from March 2019 to November 2019 were randomly divided into a control group of 39 cases and an experimental group of 42 cases. The control group received routine rehabilitation nursing intervention, including dietary nursing interve

Feasibility of a live-stream dance class for people with chronic stroke.

BACKGROUND: Adapted dance is a promising intervention to improve physical and psychosocial well-being post-stroke. At-home participation with a live-streamed dance program could address barriers to in-person attendance (e.g., limited community ambulation, and transportation). However, psychosocial benefits may be diminished because of reduced social interactions. The primary study objective was to assess the feasibility and safety of a live-streamed dance program for chronic stroke. Secondary objectives were to characterize participants who chose live-stream vs in-person options and quantify p

Delayed, recurrent opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome responding to plasmapheresis.

Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome is a distinct neurologic disorder characterized by opsoclonic eye movements, multifocal myoclonus, and ataxia, traditionally described as "dancing eyes, dancing feet." A presenting sign in 2% of children with neuroblastoma, it usually heralds a favorable prognosis for the tumor. Although opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome usually presents at initial diagnosis or relapse, there are reports of delayed presentation, usually a few months after diagnosis. This report describes a patient with ganglioneuroblastoma who developed recurrent symptoms of opsoclonus-myoclonus syndr
