Robustness of deep learning-based denoising 4DCBCT methods.

Objective.4D cone-beam computed tomography (4DCBCT) is a technique used to address respiratory motion in radiotherapy but is limited by significant view-aliasing artifacts. Recently, deep learning methods have been proposed to reduce view-aliasing. This study investigates the robustness and performance of these methods when variations in patient breathing period affect the noise pattern in the scans used as training data, which potentially affects the ability of the models to reduce view-aliasing.Approach.We evaluated both a supervised and a self-supervised scalable deep learning method. Deep Learning Based Approach for Lossless ECG Compression.

OBJECTIVE: Tele-monitoring is a useful platform for remote monitoring of cardiac patients, where compression plays a significant role in reducing the link burden and memory utilization of the source device. This paper describes a new approach for lossless ECG compression based on a deep-learning method via an adaptive autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model. METHODS: Raw ECG signals were denoised and preprocessed to generate beat-cells for further processing. The ARIMA model uses the individual cardiac cycles to generate model parameters, which are then compressed. In this rese

Deep contrastive learning enables genome-wide virtual screening.

Recent breakthroughs in protein structure prediction have opened new avenues for genome-wide drug discovery, yet existing virtual screening methods remain computationally prohibitive. We present DrugCLIP, a contrastive learning framework that achieves ultrafast and accurate virtual screening, up to 10 million times faster than docking, while consistently outperforming various baselines on in silico benchmarks. In wet-lab validations, DrugCLIP achieved a 15% hit rate for norepinephrine transporter, and structures of two identified inhibitors were determined in complex with the target protein. F

Lumbar MRI-Based Deep Learning for Osteoporosis Prediction.

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) is characterized by reduced bone mineral density and increased fracture risk. Many spinal surgery patients have undiagnosed OP due to the lack of preoperative screening, leading to postoperative complications. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a routine, non-invasive tool for spinal assessment, offers potential for opportunistic OP detection. This study aimed to develop deep learning models to identify OP using lumbar MRI. Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 218 patients (≥50 years) who underwent both lumbar MRI and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). After s

Deep Learning-accelerated MRI in Body and Chest.

Deep learning reconstruction (DLR) provides an elegant solution for MR acceleration while preserving image quality. This advancement is crucial for body imaging, which is frequently marred by the increased likelihood of motion-related artifacts. Multiple vendor-specific models focusing on T2, T1, and diffusion-weighted imaging have been developed for the abdomen, pelvis, and chest, with the liver and prostate being the most well-studied organ systems. Variational networks with supervised DL models, including data consistency layers and regularizers, are the most common DLR methods. The common

Enhancing single-molecule localization microscopy with deep learning.

Single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) has significantly improved the visualization of sub-cellular structures, but enhancing the accuracy of 3D emitter localization remains challenging. The technique relies on precisely computationally localizing sparsely activated fluorophores, with traditional methods being iterative, time-consuming, and sensitive to camera noise and overlapping point spread functions (PSFs). We introduce a deep convolutional neural network that employs an innovative architecture to effectively manage diverse emitter scenarios, from isolated to densely packed. By tr

Automated Cavity Detection and Classification Using Deep Learning.

Cavity detection in dental X-rays is essential for early diagnosis and treatment planning, yet traditional deep learning approaches often rely on binary classification of entire images, overlooking localized analysis. This study introduces a multi-scale AI-assisted approach for both classification and detection, leveraging the Ultralytics YOLO11 framework to compare image-level and tooth-level methodologies. The single-tooth classification model achieved a test accuracy of 0.854, while panoramic classification performed slightly better at 0.864. For cavity detection, the tooth-level model outp

A deep learning framework for understanding cochlear implants.

Sensory prostheses replace dysfunctional sensory organs with electrical stimulation but currently fail to restore normal perception. Outcomes may be limited by stimulation strategies, neural degeneration, or suboptimal decoding by the brain. We propose a deep learning framework to evaluate these issues by estimating best-case outcomes with task-optimized decoders operating on simulated prosthetic input. We applied the framework to cochlear implants - the standard treatment for deafness - by training artificial neural networks to recognize and localize sounds using simulated auditory nerve inpu

AFM-Based Deep Learning Decodes Human Macrophage Mechanophenotypes.

Macrophage polarization into inflammatory (M1) and repairing/healing (M2) functional phenotypes are fundamental mechanisms in immune defensive responses, tissue repair, and disease control. Conventional phenotyping approaches based on molecular biomarkers are limited by destructive protocols, static endpoint analyses, and a disregard for the biomechanical attributes of cells. In this study, an integrated artificial intelligence (AI)-atomic force microscopy (AFM) platform is introduced that enables label-free, mechanophenotyping of macrophages at single-cell resolution. Using nanoscale force ma

Warfarin Dose Management Using Offline Deep Reinforcement Learning.

Warfarin is a commonly prescribed anticoagulant with a narrow therapeutic window, which requires frequent and specialized monitoring. This work aims to develop standardized optimal warfarin dose decision support using a machine learning model based on time-series anticoagulation data and patient demographic characteristics. We propose an offline reinforcement learning model (RL) using a Batch-Constrained Q-Learning algorithm (BCQ) in a discrete action setting to predict the cumulative warfarin dose for the days until the next INR (International Normalized Ratio) test. Prior approaches utilized

A deep reinforcement learning platform for antibiotic discovery.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is projected to cause up to 10 million deaths annually by 2050, underscoring the urgent need for new antibiotics. Here we present ApexAmphion, a deep-learning framework for de novo design of antibiotics that couples a 6.4-billion-parameter protein language model with reinforcement learning. The model is first fine-tuned on curated peptide data to capture antimicrobial sequence regularities, then optimised with proximal policy optimization against a composite reward that combines predictions from a learned minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) classifier with dif
