Dengue is a prevalent and rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease affecting humans. The geographic range of dengue is expanding, and much like in many other tropical regions of the world, dengue has become a major public health issue in Bangladesh. Until a large epidemic dengue outbreak in 2000, sporadic outbreaks have occurred in Bangladesh since 1964. After 2000, varying intensities of dengue activity were observed each year until 2018. However, in 2019, Bangladesh experienced the largest dengue epidemic in its history, with 101,354 dengue cases and 164 dengue-related deaths. Notably,

We are going to report a case study of dengue fever (DF) affecting myocardium and explore the literature. A gentleman of 28 years old experienced DF which was complicated by acute myocarditis, acute kidney injury and hepatitis in the Emergency Department of Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka, Bangladesh on 5th August 2017. Clinically it was considered as an acute coronary syndrome due to depressed ST segment in chest leads ECG, extreme bradycardia but normal serum troponin-I level. He had to undergo temporary pacemaker insertion for symptomatic bradycardia and later on, he was monitored closely. Fortunat

Advances in free radical research show that reactive oxygen and nitrogen oxide species, for example superoxide, nitric oxide (NO) and peroxynitrite, play an important role in the pathogenesis of different viral infections, including dengue virus. The pathogenic mechanism of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) is complicated and is not clearly understood. The hallmarks of the dengue disease, the antibody-dependent enhancement, the shift from T-helper type 1 (Th1) to Th2 cytokine response and the cytokine tsunami resulting in vascular leakage can now be explained much better with the knowledge gaine

In Pernambuco, the first dengue cases occurred in 1987. After a seven-year interval without autochthonous cases, a new epidemic occurred in 1995. Important aspects of the dengue epidemics during the period 1995-2006 have been analyzed here, using epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data. A total of 378,374 cases were notified, with 612 confirmed cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever and 33 deaths. The mortality rate was 5.4%. The incidence rate increased from 134 to 1,438/100,000 inhabitants, corresponding to the epidemics due to serotypes 2 and 3, in 1995 and 2002, respectively. Dengue mainl

An alarming rise of dengue has been seen in Mumbai during the post-monsoon season. We undertook this prospective study in the pediatric wards and pediatric intensive care unit of B. J. Wadia Hospital for Children between 27 August 2003 and 10 October 2003 to determine the clinical features, laboratory abnormalities, and outcome of children affected with dengue and to determine the predictive markers for dengue shock syndrome. Fifty-one suspected dengue cases were tested for positivity of dengue by determination of dengue IgM antibodies by ELISA test. These positive cases were analysed for comm

Neurologic complications associated with dengue fever are in general unusual. However, recent reports evidence more frequent neurologic alterations. In Mexico, neurologic involvement has not been reported in dengue cases. This report demonstrates the detection of dengue virus in the brain of a fatal case of dengue hemorrhagic fever. Serotype 4 was detected by immunohistochemistry and by RT-PCR in the inferior olivary nucleus of medulla and in the granular layer of cerebellum. Immunoreactivity was observed in neurons, astrocytes, microglia and endothelial cells. Our results emphasize the import

Dengue is an acute febrile disease caused by the Aedes mosquito-borne dengue viruses (DENV-1 to DENV-4). Annually, approximately 100 million people fall ill with dengue, which can cause debilitating pain and discomfort, reducing both physical functioning and quality of life. Some patients progress to life-threatening inflammation-driven circulatory failure. Disease burden remains primarily in urban centres; however, factors including increased travel and climate change are rapidly expanding the geographical distribution of dengue to rural and peri-urban environments. Dengue is diagnosed based

To write about dengue retrospective epidemiology is a challenging subject because until laboratory diagnosis tests were developed to confirm human infections by dengue virus (DENV) between 1940 and 1950, all reports about disease or epidemics referred to a generic "dengue/break bone fever/contagious fever/bilious remitting fever." These nomenclatures employed in past times had perspectives based on medical reports, letters and diaries of people living in the affected areas at the time, and local newspaper reports. As Packard (Bull Hist Med 90(2):193-221) highlighted, the difficulty of using hi

Dengue fever is acute zooanthroponic infection from a group of vector-borne viral hemorrhagic fevers. Since 2013, Russia has introduced the mandatory registration of dengue fever cases. The paper presents data on the epidemiology, etiology, and pathogenesis of Dengue fever and describes a case of a fatal outcome in severe dengue fever and morphological changes in organs and tissues.

Dengue fever, a viral disease epidemic in some parts of the world, is of considerable international concern, with a growing incidence owing to developing urbanization, tourism, and trade. Ocular manifestations of dengue fever are uncommon, but of great significance. Proposed mechanisms include direct viral infection as well as immunologic phenomena. Common manifestations include subconjunctival, vitreous, and retinal hemorrhages; posterior uveitis; optic neuritis; and maculopathies such as foveolitis, hemorrhage, and edema. Main symptoms include blurring of vision, scotomata, metamorphopsia, a

Célia, 21 month-old child, presented to our pediatric clinic a few months ago with a fever of unknown origin after a stay in St-Domingue with her parents. Complementary investigations led to a diagnosis of Dengue Fever. The condition, not very frequent and thus not well known in our countries, represents a major world health problem especially because of the global failure of prophylactic measures. If the disease is self-limited in most cases, severe form can occur, with significant mortality and morbidity. Delay in diagnosis and treatment of these severe cases is often fatal.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical spectrum of fundus manifestations and angiographic and optical coherence tomographic features of dengue-associated maculopathy in a large series.
METHODS: We reviewed clinical records of patients diagnosed as having dengue maculopathy at the Singapore National Eye Centre between January 1, 2002, and December 31, 2005.
RESULTS: We identified 41 patients with serological evidence of dengue fever who had ocular signs and symptoms not attributable to other diseases within 1 month after onset of symptoms of dengue. Seventy-one eyes had maculopathy. Mean best-co

Zoonoses such as Brucella, Mycobacterium bovis, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Listeria, etc. are spread by ingestion of contaminated unpasteurised milk products (from infected cattle) and result in infectious outbreaks, hospitalisations and mortality. In Southeast Asian countries, raw goat's milk is sometimes used for dengue infection-associated thrombocytopenia; however, evidence to support this sociocultural practice is lacking. A peak incidence of brucellosis cases may occur after a dengue season in communities where this practice is prevalent.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne arthropod-borne viral (arboviral) tropical disease in humans affecting 50-528 million people worldwide. The acute abdominal complications of dengue fever are acute appendicitis, acute pancreatitis, acute acalculous cholecystitis and non-specific peritonitis. Acute pancreatitis with new onset diabetes in dengue shock syndrome (DSS) is very rarely reported. We describe a case of 30-year-old man admitted in intensive care unit and was diagnosed with DSS with RT-PCR, NS1 antigen and dengue IgM antibody being positive. Abdominal ultrasound and computerized tomograph

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease, which is currently an expanding global problem. Four closely related dengue serotypes cause the disease, which ranges from asymptomatic infection to undifferentiated fever, dengue fever (DF), and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). DHF is characterized by fever, bleeding diathesis, and a tendency to develop a potentially fatal shock syndrome. Dengue infection with organ impairment mainly involves the central nervous system and the liver. Consistent hematological findings include vasculopathy, coagulopathy, and thrombocytopenia. Laboratory diagnosis include

Dengue viral infections are one of the most important mosquito-borne diseases in the world. Presently dengue is endemic in 112 countries in the world. It has been estimated that almost 100 million cases of dengue fever and half a million cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) occur worldwide. An increasing proportion of DHF is in children less than 15 years of age, especially in South East and South Asia. The unique structure of the dengue virus and the pathophysiologic responses of the host, different serotypes, and favorable conditions for vector breeding have led to the virulence and sprea
