Accuracy of Static Guided Endodontic Access in Pulp Canal Obliteration: Influence of Sleeve Design on Clinical Precision.

OBJECTIVES: Pulp canal obliteration (PCO) presents a major challenge in endodontic treatment due to canal calcification, which complicates canal localization and increases the risk of errors during freehand access (FHA). Static guided endodontic access (SGEA) has been introduced to improve accuracy; however, the influence of guide sleeve design, particularly material and height, remains unclear. METHODS: This in vitro study used 48 standardized 3D-printed maxillary central incisors with simulated PCO. Tooth-supported guides with titanium, cobalt-chromium (CoCr), and zirconia sleeves at height

Three-dimensional analysis for detection of pulp stones in a Saudi population using cone beam computed tomography.

PURPOSE: To assess the prevalence and distribution of pulp stones in a Saudi population. METHODS: A cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis of 150 upper and 150 lower dental arches was performed. The relationships between pulp stones and age, sex, tooth type, dental arch, orthodontic treatment, caries, and restoration were statistically examined (P < 0.05). RESULTS: A total of 295 dental arches (98.3%) had at least one pulp stone, and the prevalence was higher in the maxillary teeth (56.2%) than in the mandibular teeth (48.1%) (P = 0.0003). Men were more likely to have pulp stones than

Pulp responses to two strains of bacteria isolated from human carious dentine (L. plantarum) (NCTC 1406) and S. mutans (NCTC 10919).

A series of studies has been conducted in which monoinfected gnotobiotic rats were used to study the responses of the dental pulp to micro-organisms isolated from carious lesions in dentine. In this study pulp responses to L. plantarum (formerly odontolyticus) (NCTC 1406) in pure culture and in combination with S. mutans (NCTC 10919) are reported. The incidence of inflammation/necrosis/dentine bridge formation observed in animals monoinfected with L. plantarum was similar to that reported in previous germ-free studies. There was a greater incidence of dentine bridge formation in rats monoinfec

Repair process of external root resorption subsequent to palatal expansion treatment.

The repair process of external root resorption (ERR) and the role of retention mechanics in enhancing ERR repair were studied on eight Macaca fascicularis monkeys that were divided equally into short- and long-term groups. Six monkeys received palatal expansion appliances, and two received sham appliances. The short-term group received active treatment. The long-term group received additional retention (4 months) and relapse (2 months) treatment periods with biweekly injections of individual vital dye per phase, i.e., procion red H-8B and violet H-3R (80 mg/kg B.W.), respectively. Origin, diagnosis, and treatment of the dental manifestations of vitamin D-resistant rickets: review of the literature and report of case.

Previous discussions center on early diagnosis, initial treatment, and follow-up therapy for the patient with vitamin D-resistant rickets. Both the medical and dental aspects of treatment for these patients has a long-range effect on the normal developmental patterns. Although treatment is begun at an early age, some rachitic skeletal effects such as minor bowing of the legs and bossing of the skull will invariably be noticed. In patients with controlled rickets the alveolar processes undergo normal development, with apparent normal dental eruption. The poor development and calcification of th

Morphological study of the oral denticles of the porbeagle shark Lamna nasus.

Oral denticles of sharks are composed by a crown, dentine covered by a layer of enameloid and pulp cavity, the same structure of the dermal denticles found across the body surface of most elasmobranchs. In addition, oral papillae and taste buds are distributed among denticles within the oropharyngeal cavity, playing a fundamental role for tasting as part of the chemosensory system of fishes. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been employed as an important tool for the study of dermal denticles and other structures, as well as histology and more recently computed tomography (CT) scan analys

Incidence of canal calcification in the orthodontic patient.

References in the endodontic literature specifically warn that orthodontic treatment may initiate the formation of secondary dentin deposition within a tooth to the extent of obstructing the entire root canal. Comparison of forty-six orthodontically treated patients with a control group of age- and sex-matched patients who had not undergone orthodontic treatment revealed two orthodontically treated patients with a total of three teeth that showed evidence of canal calcification. Although this incidence is not statistically significant, the clinical significance of canal calcification in the or

Dental changes in hypervitaminosis D.

Vitamin D is required for the normal development of teeth and bones. When there is excess vitamin D, systemic and dental changes may occur. This is a case report of a girl who experienced hypercalcemia secondary to excess vitamin D derived from the consumption of milk that was incorrectly fortified. The changes in the permanent dentition to date are enamel hypoplasia and focal pulp calcification. These changes correspond to the timing of the toxemia caused by hypervitaminosis D.

Trauma to the primary dentition and its sequelae.

UNLABELLED: Trauma to the primary dentition is common. This injury may have an impact on the child and his/her parents. The examining dentist should take appropriate factors into consideration before providing the required treatment. This paper discusses the management of trauma to the primary teeth and describes the sequelae of injury to both the primary and secondary dentitions. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In cases of trauma to the primary teeth, diagnosis and appropriate management is necessary to alleviate the pain and discomfort for the child and to decrease the risk of damage to the permanent s

Mineralized deposits in pulps of incompletely developed permanent monkey incisors after pulpotomy with tungsten carbide fissure burs.

The exposed pulp of incompletely developed permanent incisors of nine monkeys were treated with partial pulpotomy with tungsten carbide fissure burs on an air turbine equipment. The pulps were capped with calcium hydroxide (Dycal) followed by insertion of conventional amalgam. The results were studied by conventional light microscopy after 1 and 6 months. Rod-like mineralized pulpal deposits were seen in five of the nine animals, in 9 out of 67 teeth, evenly distributed at the two observation times. Also the lengths of the deposits appeared similar, while the thickness had increased markedly a

Criteria for management of calcific metamorphosis: review with a case report.

Calcific metamorphosis is seen commonly in the dental pulp after traumatic tooth injuries and is characterized by deposition of hard tissue within the root canal space. Opinion differs among practitioners as to whether to treat these cases upon early detection of calcific metamorphosis or to observe them until symptoms or radiographic signs of pulpal necrosis are detected. In this article, the clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic appearance of calcific metamorphosis is described; a review of the literature is presented to address these issues in an attempt to establish sound rationale f

Assessment of Pulp Stones Among Western Saudi Populations: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: The term "pulp stones" refers to conditions of calcification that can appear in any area of the dental pulp. This study aims to assess the prevalence of pulp stones and examine whether there is any connection between their occurrence and factors such as patient age, gender, tooth location, presence of decay, or dental restorations in a western Saudi subpopulation based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODOLOGY: 500 patients were randomly selected from the College of Dentistry, Taibah University, Madinah, Saudi Arabia, database. The study involved evaluating 2998 teeth i

Root perforations: a review of diagnosis, prognosis and materials.

Root perforation results in the communication between root canal walls and periodontal space (external tooth surface). It is commonly caused by an operative procedural accident or pathological alteration (such as extensive dental caries, and external or internal inflammatory root resorption). Different factors may predispose to this communication, such as the presence of pulp stones, calcification, resorptions, tooth malposition (unusual inclination in the arch, tipping or rotation), an extra-coronal restoration or intracanal posts. The diagnosis of dental pulp and/or periapical tissue previou
