We evaluated clinical and microbiological aspects in 145 hospitalizations of 89 intravenous drug abusers with acute soft tissue infections at the injection site. The transfer of 35 antibiotics from milk to curd and whey was evaluated. Cheeses were produced at laboratory scale, from antibiotic-free goat's milk spiked with different antibiotic concentrations between 0.25 and 4 times the Maximum Residue Limits established in milk. Drug concentrations in milk, curd and whey were analysed by UHPLC-HRMS. In the present study, a convenient and sensitive method for determination of six penicillin antibiotics (amoxicillin, ampicillin, penicillin G, oxacillin, cloxacillin, and dicloxacillin) in milk and honey samples was developed. Milk and honey samples were diluted with water, then directly treated by stir bar sorptive extraction based on poly (vinylimidazole-divinylbenzene) monolithic material as coating. The analytes were analyzed by LC/ESI- MS/MS. Several extraction parameters including extraction and desorption time, pH value, and ionic strength in sample matrix were investigated in detail.

Bacteriologic investigations were performed on 100 children with acute otitis media by culturing the fluid from a myringotomy site. Patients ranged in age from 7 months to 14 years, and 91 were younger than 6 years old. Bacterial isolates were yielded from cultures in 83 cases, and mixtures of two or three organisms were obtained from 15 patients. Toxic-shock syndrome occurred in a mother and possibly in her infant in the immediate postpartum period. Staphylococcus aureus of identical phage type and antibiogram was recovered from mucous membranes in both patients. Staphylococci were transmitted from mother to infant during parturition.
