Distinct distribution of Dicrocoelium dendriticum and D. chinensis in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and a new final host record for D. chinensis.

This study dealt with the morphological and molecular identification of Dicrocoelium flukes obtained from Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus) and sika deer (Cervus nippon centralis) in the twelve districts of Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Dicrocoelium dendriticum and D. chinensis were exclusively detected in the western, and coastal and eastern areas of Iwate Prefecture, respectively. This geographically distinct occurrence of the two Dicrocoelium species would be associated with the distribution of the final hosts, sika deer for D. chinensis and Japanese serow for D. dendriticum. This study also

Dynamics of the elimination of Dicrocoelium dendriticum (Trematoda, Digenea) eggs in the faeces of lambs and ewes in the Porma basin (León, NW Spain).

The elimination of Dicrocoelium dendriticum eggs in sheep faeces from 4 localities in the upper and middle Porma river basin was recorded at monthly intervals between March 1986 and March 1987. The faecal material was taken directly from the rectum of the animals (10% of the flock in each village). The sedimentation technique and McMaster egg counting chambers were used to analyze the faecal samples. Of the 995 samples examined, 63.6% contained D. dendriticum eggs and the number of eggs per gram (epg) varied from 33 to 5,340 (average 323.4 +/- 18.5). The highest elimination rate was observed i

[Epidemiology and prevention of distomatosis in France].

Only the large liver fluke Fasciola hepatica is frequently encountered in France. The small fluke is exceptional, owing to its mode of transmission. Opithorchiasis is observed among refugees from South-East Asia. The prevention of all types of distomatosis rests on food control.

[Effectiveness of cambendazole (Bonlam paste) in sheep invaded by tramatodes (Dicrocoelium dendriticum)].

Tests were performed to examine the effectiveness of a new form of cambendazole (Bonlam paste, produced by MSD, USA) in sheep, naturally invaded by the trematodes Dicrocoelium dendriticum. Single administration of 25 mg per 1 kg live weight induced a rapid decrease in the number of the excreted eggs of D. dendriticum, as counted during ovoscopic examination seven, ten, and fifteen days after administration of the chemical. The intenseffectiveness of the preparation, determined post mortem, was 95.1%. Despite this, several dicrocoelia with normal motility and with no changes on the cuticle or i

In Vitro Assessment of Anthelmintic Activities of AgO Nanoparticle against Liver Fluke Dicrocoelium dendriticum.

BACKGROUND: Dicrocoeliasis is an important helminthic zoonosis reported from many parts of the world. Due to low-performance medications, drug delivery is a great challenge in improving the treatment of this liver fluke infection. We aimed to determine the anthelmintic properties of Nanosilver oxide (AgO) against Dicrocoelium dendriticum infection. METHODS: The impacts of various concentrations of AgO nanoparticles (50-200 μg/ml) for 12-24 hours were compared with closantel, a chemical drug. The anthelmintic efficacy was evaluated using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The sy

Molecular Characterization of Fasciola and Dicrocoelium Species Isolated from Ruminant Livestock in Qazvin, Iran.

INTRODUCTION: Fascioliasis and dicrocoeliasis are the most frequent zoonotic diseases with increasing human health problems in different parts of Iran. Two species, Fasciola hepatica (F. hepatica) and Fasciola gigantica (F. gigantica), are spread in the country. Molecular approaches have a decisive role in identifying both the species. The aim of this study was to detect Fasciola spp. and Dicrocoelium spp. by amplifying the ITS-2 and 28S rDNA gene sequence. METHODS: Overall, 30 infected liver samples were collected from the livestock of Qazvin, Iran. The adult flukes were collected from diffe

Rare gallbladder parasitosis mimicking cholelithiasis: Dicrocoelium dendriticum.

Cholelithiasis is increasingly diagnosed in childhood and infancy. Biliary parasites are the rarest cause of cholelithiasis in all age groups. We present a twelve-year-old girl with non-hemolytic gallbladder stone and discuss the clinical features and differential diagnosis of Dicrocoelium dendriticum (DD) invasion that causes and/or mimics cholelithiasis in children.

[Intermediary hosts of Dicrocoelium lanceolatum in Lebanon and Syria (author's transl)].

The authors describe the biological cycle of the Trematoda Dicrocoelium lanceolatum in Lebanon and in Syria: two principal first hosts are the Gastropoda: Theba syriaca and Xerophila vestalis; the second intermediate host is the ant Formica (S.) rufibarbis var. clarorufibarbis very common near fresh water in herbous lands, over 1,000 m of altitude. The last host is the Sheep, the Cow and probably the Goat. A humain case is commented.

Assessment of oxidative stress biomarkers in liver fluke Dicrocoelium dendriticum following exposure to copper oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles.

Dicrocoeliasis is a globally significant condition impacting both economic and public health. The lack of effective vaccines and emergence of drug-resistant flukes have prompted research into alternative treatments. Metallic nanoparticles have recently been studied for their potential as anthelmintic agents. This research examined the in vitro anthelmintic activity of copper oxide (CuO-NPs) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) against Dicrocoelium dendriticum. Using adult motility inhibition tests and oxidative stress biomarkers, including glutathione peroxidase , glutathione S-transferase ,

Liver flukes promote cholelithiasis in sheep.

The main objective of this study was to investigate whether cholelithiasis in sheep is related to parasitism or other commonly observed disorders such as liver abscesses. Additionally, the features of the observed biliary calculi are described. The livers of 254 randomly selected clinically healthy adult dairy sheep were used. All visible concretions in the bile were considered as stones. Based on the macroscopical examination, 60 livers were normal, 40 were parasitized with Fasciola hepatica, 42 were parasitized with Dicrocoelium dendriticum, 28 were parasitized with both D. dendriticum and F

Mouflon (Ovis musimon) dicrocoeliosis: effects of parasitosis on the activities of biotransformation enzymes and albendazole metabolism in liver.

Parasitic infections can modify the host's ability to metabolize drugs and other xenobiotics by altering the biotransformation enzymes; these changes may have various pharmacological, toxicological or physiological consequences. In our study, several activities of liver biotransformation enzymes and in vitro metabolism of albendazole (ABZ) were tested and compared in non-infected mouflons (Ovis musimon) and in mouflons infected by lancet fluke (Dicrocoelium dendriticum). Subcellular fractions of liver homogenates were isolated from 5+5 mouflon rams (1-year-old) parasitologically negative or na
