A randomised double-blind study of vaginal misoprostol vs dinoprostone for cervical ripening and labour induction in prolonged pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Dinoprostone, is presently used in our standard protocol for cervical ripening and labour induction. In search for a cheaper alternative, misoprostol has been found to be a good substitute. In view of the potential saving it might offer, we set out to test its efficacy against the standard dinoprostone. METHODS: A randomised double-blind study involving 50 pregnant women with prolonged pregnancy, treated at a government hospital in Malaysia, was carried out. Two hundred micrograms of intravaginal misoprostol were compared with 3 mg of dinoprostone in each treatment arm. RESULTS:

Predictive Value of Abdominal Subcutaneous Fat Thickness for Dinoprostone-Induced Labor Success in Obese Pregnant Women: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background: While maternal obesity is a well-established risk factor for labor induction failure, the specific impact of regional fat distribution and its direct influence on prostaglandin dose-response profiles remain under-investigated. Relying solely on generalized anthropometric metrics like Body Mass Index (BMI) may obscure the true physiological variations in tissue bioavailability. Therefore, this study aimed to compare dinoprostone-induced labor outcomes between obese pregnant women and non-obese controls, and to evaluate whether ultrasonographically measured abdominal subcutaneous fat

Cervical ripening in prolonged pregnancies by silicone double balloon catheter versus vaginal dinoprostone slow release system: The MAGPOP randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged pregnancies are a frequent indication for induction of labour. When the cervix is unfavourable, cervical ripening before oxytocin administration is recommended to increase the likelihood of vaginal delivery, but no particular method is currently recommended for cervical ripening of prolonged pregnancies. This trial evaluates whether the use of mechanical cervical ripening with a silicone double balloon catheter for induction of labour in prolonged pregnancies reduces the cesarean section rate for nonreassuring fetal status compared with pharmacological cervical ripening b

Results of the RE-DINO multicenter randomized trial on the repeated use of vaginal dinoprostone (Propess®) for labor induction in patients at term.

BACKGROUND: Labor is induced in over 25% of women in France. Prostaglandins, especially intravaginal dinoprostone (Propess®), are widely used to initiate cervical ripening. If labor does not start within 24 hours, there is uncertainty about whether to administer a second dinoprostone pessary or to use oxytocin to induce labor in order to achieve a vaginal delivery. OBJECTIVES: Our principal objective was to determine whether placement of a second Propess®, followed by oxytocin (Syntocinon®) if necessary, in pregnant women for whom the first Propess® failed to induce cervical ripening increase

Maternal satisfaction with induction of labour by dinoprostone vaginal insert or cervical ripening balloon associated with oral misoprostol: an observational study.

OBJECTIVES: Induction of labour (IoL) for women with unfavourable cervix is performed with different methods, with the association of cervical ripening balloons (CRB) with misoprostol considered as the most effective; however, poor evidence is available about maternal satisfaction with such strategy. The aim of this study was to compare subjective outcomes of IoL between women undergoing cervical ripening by either vaginal dinoprostone or CRB with misoprostol. METHODS: This was an observational study comparing two cohorts of women with unfavourable cervix undergoing IoL by either dinoprostone

Comparison of intracervical Foley catheter used alone or combined with a single dose of dinoprostone gel for cervical ripening: a randomised study.

Prostaglandins and intracervical catheters are similarly effective for cervical ripening and for an induction of labour (IOL). Studies comparing the combined use with either method alone have administered repetitive doses of prostaglandins vaginally, which may increase the risk of tachysystole and chorioamnionitis. These disadvantages may be offset by co-administering a single dose of prostaglandin. Women (n = 110) planned for IOL, ≥37 weeks of gestation and with a Bishop Score of ≤6 were randomised into two groups: intracervical Foley catheter alone or combined with dinoprostone gel (0.5 mg)
