Rate of return to work in patients with stroke under the health and employment support program of Rosai hospitals in Japan.

To facilitate return to work (RTW) in patients with stroke, a health and employment support (HES) program was started at Rosai hospitals in Japan. This study aimed to determine the rate of RTW in patients with stroke under this support program. We collected demographic and clinical data of patients with stroke from the implementation reports of the HES program. The program provided coordinated dual support, such as acute medical treatments, and stroke and vocational rehabilitation on the medical side, and management and support on the workplace side. The primary endpoint was RTW. Successful an

Evaluation of an occupational therapy reentry program: Achieving goals to support employment and community living after incarceration.

BACKGROUND: Individuals released from prisons to community supervision often experience unstable housing, unemployment, substance misuse, mental ill-health, and lack of support systems contributing to high rates of recidivism. Occupational therapy practitioners have distinct value in promoting engagement in new habits and routines to support "occupation," or development of daily living skills to support community reentry. OBJECTIVE: We developed an occupational therapy (OT) program within a Department of Corrections (DOC) Community Supervision Center in the Midwest United States. The purpose

Disclosure, Privacy and Workplace Accommodation of Episodic Disabilities: Organizational Perspectives on Disability Communication-Support Processes to Sustain Employment.

Purpose Employers increasingly are asked to accommodate workers living with physical and mental health conditions that cause episodic disability, where periods of wellness are punctuated by intermittent and often unpredictable activity limitations (e.g., depression, anxiety, arthritis, colitis). Episodic disabilities may be challenging for workplaces which must comply with legislation protecting the privacy of health information while believing they would benefit from personal health details to meet a worker's accommodation needs. This research aimed to understand organizational perspectives o

Social firms: building cross-sectoral partnerships to create employment opportunity and supportive workplaces for people with mental illness.

UNLABELLED: A major barrier to employment for people with mental illness is limited access to supportive and non-discriminatory workplaces. Social firms are businesses committed to employing up to 50% of people with a disability or other disadvantage and to providing supportive work environments that benefit workers. Little research has been conducted to understand the features and social processes that support the vocational experiences of employees with mental health issues in social firms. OBJECTIVE: This ethnographic study sought to explore the experiences of nine employees at one Austral

Study protocol and preliminary baseline characteristics of a VA multi-site, mixed methods, randomized controlled study evaluating supported employment provided to veterans with opioid use disorder.

Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is a pervasive and devastating public health crisis that continues to take a heavy toll on individuals and communities across the United States. In 2021, approximately 473,000 veterans misused opioids in the past year. In the context of their military service and post-service life, Veterans with OUD often encounter unique barriers to recovery, including the reintegration into civilian society and the pursuit of stable, meaningful employment. The path to recovery from OUD is inextricably linked to the restoration of a stable and purposeful life, a fact underscored by t

Optimising access to employment support for people with multiple sclerosis through charities: a qualitative study using Normalisation Process Theory.

BACKGROUND: Vocational rehabilitation (VR) interventions aimed at optimising job retention could help people with multiple sclerosis (MS) stay employed longer and prevent premature job loss. Currently, there is a lack of specialist services providing these types of interventions in the United Kingdom, and existing healthcare services are overstretched, hindering the introduction of a new service. This study aims to report on the adaptation of an MS-specific VR intervention for implementation within charities supporting those living with MS. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews with people with

Social inclusion of persons with disability in employment: what would it take to socially support employed persons with disability in the labor market?

INTRODUCTION: One of the major challenges that persons with disabilities (PWDs) are facing globally is unemployment. The challenge is attributed to systems that are not built with inclusivity in mind by employers. As such, the work of inclusion is not inviting PWDs to do more but to make a difference through social support. Most research on inclusion in the employment of PWDs in low-income settings has been concentrated upon the labor "supply" side, and to the best of our knowledge, no specific studies moved toward inclusion in employment issues from the employers' perspective in informal sett

BACKGROUND: In 2020, in response to major maternity workforce challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Victorian Department of Health implemented a number of workforce maximisation strategies, one of which was employment of undergraduate midwifery students called 'Registered Undergraduate Student Of Midwifery' (RUSOM). AIM: To evaluate the RUSOM model implemented in a tertiary maternity service in Melbourne, Australia. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was distributed to all RUSOMs and midwives at the study site in August 2021. FINDINGS: Twenty of 26 RUSOMs (77%) and 110

Virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation programme to support employment in patients with breast cancer: protocol for the Cog-RV pilot study.

INTRODUCTION: Cancer-related cognitive impairment is frequently reported by patients with breast cancer after chemotherapy. These difficulties can hinder return to work. It is therefore particularly important to assess and manage these impairments, especially to facilitate employment. We propose the Cog-VR pilot study to assess patient adherence to a virtual reality (VR)-based cognitive rehabilitation programme to support employment. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This prospective interventional pilot study aims to assess adherence to a VR-based cognitive rehabilitation programme in patients with brea

Factors influencing employers' support for employees with acquired brain injuries or mental illness to return to- and stay in work: A qualitative systematic review.

BACKGROUND: People with acquired brain injuries (ABIs) often experience residual limitations and co-morbid mental illnesses that restrict work participation. Employers are key in enabling successful return-to-work and job retention. OBJECTIVE: This review aimed to explore employers' perspectives of factors influencing their support for people with ABIs and/or mental illness to return to- and stay in work. Review questions focused on barriers and facilitators to their support, and contextual characteristics present at the time. METHODS: Five databases were searched from October 2010 until Nov
