Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a multidisciplinary, evidence-based protocol designed to standardize perioperative care, minimize complications, and optimize recovery. While ERAS has demonstrated significant benefits in adult populations, widespread adoption in pediatric surgery remains in progress. One of its central goals is reducing postoperative infections, particularly surgical site infections (SSIs), which represent a common source of morbidity in children. Core ERAS elements-including perioperative nutrition, glycemic control, fluid and temperature management, antibiotic proph

INTRODUCTION: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways aim to optimise perioperative care by reducing surgical stress and improving postoperative recovery. Although ERAS protocols are widely implemented across several surgical specialties, evidence regarding their effectiveness in orthognathic surgery remains limited.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study evaluated the association between a structured ERAS protocol and perioperative outcomes in eighty patients undergoing bimaxillary orthognathic surgery at a single institution between January 2023 and December 2024. Pat

BACKGROUND & AIM: Fast-track or enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a care pathway for surgical patients based on a multidisciplinary team approach aimed at optimising recovery without increasing risk with protocols based on scientific evidence, which is monitored continuously to ensure compliance and improvement. These protocols have been shown to reduce the duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation and intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (LOS) following paediatric cardiac surgery. We present the first structured implementation of ERAS in paediatric cardiac surgery in Austra

Awake surgery has been applied for various surgical procedures with positive outcomes; however, in neurosurgery, the technique has traditionally been reserved for cranial surgery. Awake surgery for the spine (ASFS) is an alternative to general anesthesia (GA). As early studies report promising results, ASFS is progressively gaining more interest from spine surgeons. The history defining the range of adverse events facing patients undergoing GA has been well described. Adverse reactions resulting from GA can include postoperative nausea and vomiting, hemodynamic instability and cardiac complica

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol for patients undergoing female pelvic reconstructive surgery would conserve hospital resources without compromising patient safety.
METHODS: In June 2020, an ERAS protocol designed to promote same-day discharge was initiated that included pre-operative hydration, a urinary anesthetic, non-narcotic analgesia, perineal ice, a bowel regimen, enrollment of the family to assist with care, and communication regarding planned same-day discharge. We compared demographic, operative, hospital stay, comp

BACKGROUND: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal perioperative care pathway designed to achieve early recovery by preserving preoperative organ function and minimizing the stress response following surgery. Few studies have assessed the association between ERAS and postoperative cardiac complications. The goal of this study is to evaluate the impact of ERAS on postoperative cardiac complications.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database of colorectal patients who underwent surgery at a tertiary colorectal cancer referral center was

BACKGROUND: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols aim to attenuate the physiological stress of surgery and accelerate postoperative recovery. While widely adopted in several surgical fields, their role in adrenal surgery remains less defined. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the impact of ERAS protocols on perioperative outcomes in patients undergoing adrenalectomy compared with conventional care.
METHODS: Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), prospective cohorts, and retrospective comparative analyses involving adult pati

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have informed perioperative care across multiple surgical specialties, optimizing patient outcomes through surgical stress management and accelerated recovery. This study evaluates the familiarity and adoption of ERAS elements among craniofacial and oral and maxillofacial surgeons in pediatric orthognathic surgery, a field where a formal ERAS protocol has not been established. A closed-ended survey of 102 surgeons was conducted to assess familiarity with and utilization of 14 ERAS elements. The survey garnered a 40.2% response rate, with 41 surg

INTRODUCTION: While Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols are becoming more common in pediatric surgery, there is still little published about protocol compliance and sustainability.
METHODS: This is a prospective observational study to evaluate the compliance of an ERAS protocol for pectus repair at a large academic children's hospital. Our primary outcome was overall protocol compliance at 1-y postimplementation of the ERAS protocol. Our comparison group included all pectus repairs for 2 y before protocol implementation.
RESULTS: Overall protocol compliance at 12 mo was 89%. Of

Background: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols are perioperative care pathways designed to achieve early recovery after procedures. ERAS protocols have shown shortened recovery time, and lower opioid utilization and postoperative complication rates. Evidence to support the use of ERAS protocols is robust, however, minimal data exists in cardiac surgery patients. Methods: This observational cohort compared adults receiving post-operative care after coronary artery bypass or valve procedures who received an ERAS protocol containing acetaminophen, gabapentin, and methocarbamol to hi

INTRODUCTION: Enhanced recovery after surgery protocols (ERAS) are used in peri-operative care to reduce the stress response to surgical aggression. As fluid overload has been associated with increased morbidity and delayed hospital discharge, a major aspect of this is fluid management. Intra-operative goal-directed fluid protocols have been shown to reduce post-operative complications, particularly in high risk patients.?.

BACKGROUND: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal pathway developed to overcome the deleterious effect of perioperative stress after major surgery. In colorectal surgery, ERAS pathways reduced perioperative morbidity, hospital stay and costs. Similar concept should be applied for liver surgery. This study presents the specific ERAS Society recommendations for liver surgery based on the best available evidence and on expert consensus.
METHODS: A systematic review was performed on ERAS for liver surgery by searching EMBASE and Medline. Five independent reviewers selected releva

Colorectal surgery carries substantial risks of postoperative morbidity, extended hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs. While the overall benefits of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols are well established, recent studies have expanded their scope to include immunological outcomes, telemedicine integration, and patient-centered recovery metrics. This systematic review synthesizes the latest evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating ERAS protocols in colorectal surgery, with particular attention to these emerging dimensions. A comprehensive search of P

AIM: Based on three randomised controlled trials performed more than a decade ago, several national guidelines recommend prolonged venous thromboprophylaxis for 28 days following elective surgery for colon cancer. None of these studies were conducted within enhanced recovery after surgery setting. Newer studies indicate that prolonged prophylaxis might not be necessary with enhanced recovery after surgery. We aimed to provide further evidence to this unresolved discussion.
METHOD: Retrospective study of patients undergoing elective surgery for colon cancer stage I-III with enhanced recovery a

The efficacy of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in neurosurgery has not yet been established. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to compare the effects of ERAS protocols and conventional perioperative care on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing craniotomy. The primary outcome was postoperative length of hospital stay. Secondary outcomes included postoperative pain visual analog pain scores, incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), postoperative complications, all-cause reoperation, readmission after di
