Behavioral Profiles in Romanian Resident Physicians: An Exploratory Study with Implications for Medical Education and Human Resource Development.

Background/Objectives: Early residency is not only about building clinical knowledge. It also involves learning how to communicate, collaborate, and regulate one's behavior throughout real-world pressure-skills that shape teamwork and everyday patient encounters. Describing the behavioral profiles of early-career physicians can therefore be useful for mapping strengths and developmental needs in training. Methods: A cross-sectional exploratory study was conducted between May and June 2023 among 83 medical residents from a major Romanian training centre. Participants completed the Harrison Asse

123I-FP-CIT uptake and behavioral disinhibition in the frontotemporal dementia spectrum: an exploratory DAT-SPECT study.

Behavioral disinhibition is a core feature of behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and occurs across related FTD-spectrum presentations. Serotonergic dysfunction may contribute to behavioral dysregulation; therefore, we primarily examined dorsal raphe (DR)-centered midbrain ¹²³I-FP-CIT uptake as an indirect extrastriatal signal that may partly reflect serotonin transporter-related binding. Because striatal dopaminergic circuits support reward learning, behavioral inhibition, and context-dependent behavioral updating, striatal uptake was examined exploratorily. This retrospective

Social cognition in two brothers with Becker muscular dystrophy: an exploratory study revealing divergent behavioral phenotypes.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Only few studies investigated social cognition in Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD). However, brain dystrophin deficiency could be a neural substrate for cognitive, emotional, and neuropsychological features in BMD. METHODS: We compared interoceptive accuracy and interpersonal comfort distance in two brothers with BMD presenting with the same genetic deletion and a healthy control. When possible, we collected neuropsychological and psychopathological assessments. RESULTS: Our BMD patients were significantly different in interoceptive accuracy, with patient 1 being ext

An Exploratory Analysis of Predictors of Youth Suicide-Related Behaviors in Autism Spectrum Disorder: Implications for Prevention Science.

Although autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is associated with significant mental health concerns, little is known about suicidality, particularly among youth. To address this critical gap in the literature, the current study examined the predictive validity of (1) demographics, (2) core autism symptoms, (3) cognitive abilities and adaptive behavior, (4) comorbid psychopathology, and (5) medical problems, for suicide-related behaviors among autistic youth (N = 481; Mage = 11.56 years). As indices of suicide-related behaviors, parents reported on whether the child had ever (1) talked about killing

Prenatal alcohol exposure and sleep-wake behaviors: exploratory and naturalistic observations in the clinical setting and in an animal model.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical research and studies using animal models have revealed a complex and relatively under-explored interaction between prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and alterations in sleep-wake behaviors. OBJECTIVES: To utilize a structured naturalistic observation-based methodology, consisting of descriptive elements, to provide insight into possible links between altered sleep and disruptive daytime presentations in children and adolescents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). To apply a similar structured behavioral observation protocol in a PAE animal model to compare outcom

Rearrangement of the dendritic morphology in limbic regions and altered exploratory behavior in a rat model of autism spectrum disorder.

Valproic acid (VPA) is a blocker of histone deacetylase widely used to treat epilepsy, bipolar disorders, and migraine; its administration during pregnancy increases the risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the child. Thus, prenatal VPA exposure has emerged as a rodent model of ASD. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of prenatal administration of VPA (500mg/kg) at E12.5 on the exploratory behavior and locomotor activity in a novel environment, as well as on neuronal morphological rearrangement in the prefrontal cortex (PFC), in the hippocampus, in the nucleus accumbe

An exploratory study of pressure ulcers after spinal cord injury: relationship to protective behaviors and risk factors.

OBJECTIVES: To identify protective behaviors and risk factors associated with the development of pressure ulcers (PUs) after spinal cord injury (SCI). DESIGN: A cross-sectional study to evaluate the relationship between protective behaviors and risk factors and 3 PU outcomes: a current PU, PUs within the past year, and ever hospitalized for a PU. Logistic regression was then used to identify the variables most strongly associated with PU outcomes. SETTING: Data were collected by case managers employed by the Arkansas Spinal Cord Commission, an agency that provides services to persons with SC

Knowledge, attitudes and behaviors related to AIDS among youth in residential centers: results from an exploratory study.

This study assesses the level of knowledge about and attitudes toward AIDS among youth residing in residential centers. It also assesses the degree to which they engage in high risk behaviors related to AIDS. The study evaluates the impact of a short educational intervention on the youth's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to AIDS. Findings suggest that the respondents are relatively knowledgeable about the disease and how to prevent it. However, a substantial proportion of them do not hold positive attitudes toward prevention and are actually engaging in unsafe behavior. The results

The role of metacognitive beliefs in impulse control disorders and addictive-like behaviors in Parkinson's disease: an exploratory study.

BACKGROUND: Impulse control disorders (ICDs) are clinically relevant non-motor complications of Parkinson's disease (PD). ICDs include gambling, hypersexuality, compulsive shopping, binge eating, hobbyism/punding, and dopamine dysregulation syndrome. Although dopaminergic replacement therapies are a key risk factor, only a subgroup of treated patients develop ICDs, potentially suggesting that neuropsychological differences may contribute to interindividual variability. Dysfunctional Metacognitive Beliefs (MBs) have recently been associated with addictive behaviors in the general population, bu

Machine Learning Analysis of Engagement Behaviors in Older Adults With Dementia Playing Mobile Games: Exploratory Study.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of dementia is expected to rise with an aging population, necessitating accessible early detection methods. Serious games have emerged as potential cognitive screening tools. They provide not only an engaging platform for assessing cognitive function but also serve as valuable indicators of cognitive health through engagement levels observed during play. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the differences in engagement-related behaviors between older adults with and without dementia during serious gaming sessions. Further, it seeks to identify the key contributors

Neurophysiological and therapeutic efficacy of somatic psychotherapies in addiction: primary behavioral focus with exploratory cross-addiction analyses.

BACKGROUND: Behavioral addictions exhibit convergent dysregulation of meso-striatal reward, cortico-limbic stress, and executive-control circuits. Top-down interventions such as CBT demonstrate moderate, often transient effects, leaving autonomic dysregulation insufficiently targeted. Somatic and body-oriented psychotherapies (SBPs) may remediate these deficits via bottom-up interoceptive and autonomic mechanisms, but quantitative synthesis is lacking. METHODS: Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (total N = 573) of yoga, mindfulness, or somatic interventions for gambling, gaming, or comp

Behavioral healthcare organizations' experiences related to use of telehealth as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic: an exploratory study.

BACKGROUND: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare providers were forced to shift many services quickly from in-person to virtual, including substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health (MH) treatment services. This led to a sharp increase in telehealth services, with health systems seeing patients virtually at hundreds of times the rate as before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. By analyzing qualitative data about SUD and MH care organizations' experiences using telehealth, this study aims to elucidate emergent themes related to telehealth use by the front-line behavioral health workfo

An Exploratory Study of Shopping to Relieve Tension or Anxiety in Adolescents: Health Correlates and Gambling-Related Perceptions and Behaviors.

The desire to escape from pressures/anxiety represents an important motivation for problematic engagement with short-term rewarding behaviors that could contribute to the development of recognized and candidate behavioral addictions, including problematic shopping, a prevalent condition among youth in the U.S.A. characterized by excessive shopping cognitions/behaviors that lead to distress/impairment. However, to date, the specific correlates of shopping to relieve anxiety or tension have yet to be evaluated. We aimed at addressing this gap by analyzing data (N = 2556) from a high-school surve

Clinical Correlates of Dream Enactment Behaviors in Previously Deployed OEF/OIF/OND Veterans: An Exploratory Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) frequently report dream enactment behavior (DEB). Although DEBs are associated with PTSD symptoms, their relationship with other sleep disorders, including REM behavior disorder, warrants reexamination of their clinical correlates. METHODS: The investigators used a cross-sectional, exploratory analysis to compare demographic and clinical characteristics of veterans endorsing regularly occurring DEB compared with those endorsing no or infrequent DEB. Engagement in health-promoting behaviors and patient-caregiver interdependence in dyads facing advanced cancer: an exploratory study.

Diet and exercise are important for the wellbeing of people with cancer and their family caregivers. Unfortunately, little is known about their behaviors over time or factors that may influence their engagement in these behaviors. This exploratory study examined the influence of chronic conditions, symptom distress, and perceived social support on exercise and diet behaviors of patients with advanced cancer and their caregivers using the actor-partner interdependence mediation model (APIMeM) and interdependence theory as guiding frameworks. This secondary analysis uses self-report data from a

An Exploratory Study of Conflict and Its Management in Systems of Care for Children with Mental, Emotional, or Behavioral Problems and Their Families.

Since 1993, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has invested more than $1 billion establishing systems of care (SOC) in over 173 local communities to provide services to children with mental, emotional, and behavioral problems and their families. The SOC model requires that effective partnerships be developed between parents and professionals and also among different service sectors and agencies. To date, there has been no systematic examination of these interagency partnerships associated with the presence of conflict and its management. This paper reports the findin

Exploratory, anti-anxiety, social, and sexual behaviors of rats in behavioral estrus is attenuated with inhibition of 3alpha,5alpha-THP formation in the midbrain ventral tegmental area.

The progesterone (P(4)) metabolite and neurosteroid, 5alpha-pregnan-3alpha-ol-20-one (3alpha,5alpha-THP) acts in the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA) to modulate lordosis of female rats. 3alpha,5alpha-THP also mediates exploratory, affective, and social behaviors; whether actions of 3alpha,5alpha-THP in the VTA mediate these behaviors is of interest. To elucidate the role of the VTA in mediating exploratory, affective, and social behaviors, the present study examined effects of inhibiting 3alpha,5alpha-THP formation in the VTA. Rats received intra-VTA infusions of either PK11195 (400ng/mu
