This study was performed to evaluate the use of autogenous fascia lata patch grafts with systemic immunosuppression in the treatment of progressive bilateral scleromalacia perforans. Autogenous fascia lata was compared with donor bank sclera and was demonstrated to be more suitable for this condition.

In a prospective collaborative study, congenital ptosis was repaired using lyophilized allogeneic fascia lata as the suspension material for frontalis sling procedures. Over 50 cases of unilateral and bilateral ptosis procedures were performed by pediatric ophthalmologists during the initial study period. No infections or evidence of tissue rejection were reported during a follow-up period of up to 24 months. Since November 1969, 53 patients have been operated on at the Toronto General Hospital for cardiac valve replacement with valves fashioned from autologous fascia lata. Sixty-three such valves have been inserted, including single aortic and mitral, double and triple valve replacements. The preliminary results indicate that operative mortality, considering the status of the patient submitted to the procedure, is comparable to that of plastic prosthetic valve replacement at this centre. We have used a modified technique in five patients to correct winging of the scapula caused by injury to the brachial plexus or the long thoracic nerve during transaxillary resection of the first rib. Chordee is an abnormal curvature of the penis detected on erection. Congenital or primary curvature of the penis without hypospadias is, however, rare. There are two kinds of primary curvatures; those associated with a normal corpus spongiosum and those with a hypoplastic spongiosum. Secondary curvatures associated with Peyronie's disease or periurethral fibrosis associated with urethral stricture are more common in adults.
