Bilharzia is a parasitic flatworm that causes schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical illness worldwide. Praziquantel (PZQ) is a commercial single treatment of schistosomiasis so alternative drugs are needed to get rid of its side effects on the liver. The current study aimed to estimate the effective role of Ficus carica nanoparticles (Fc-NPCs), silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPCs) and Ficus carica nanoparticles loaded on silver nanoparticles (Fc-Ag NPCs) on C57BL/6 black female mice infected by Schistosoma mansoni and treated with PZQ treatment. It was proved that schistosomiasis causes liver damage

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 was isolated as the retrovirus to be identified in humans. Here, we focused on Ficus pumila L. as a factor that be effective against human T-cell leukemia virus type 1. The significant and novel findings is that symptoms of patients with drinking Ficus pumila L. extracts did not worsen despite a lack of aggressive pharmacotherapy against adult T-cell leukemia, a human T-cell leukemia virus type 1-associated myelopathy, or T-cell leukemia virus type 1 uveitis. Twenty-eight of the 194 inpatients who underwent showed high levels of human T-cell leukemia virus ty

Fig limb dieback is a cosmopolitan disease caused by Neoscytalidium dimidiatum (Botryosphaeriaceae), characterized by branch and shoot cankers, discoloration of woody tissues, and dieback. The present study investigated the etiology of the disease in California that seems to have become prevalent among fig orchards in the last several years. During orchard surveys in Fresno, Kern, and Madera Counties over 3 years, we isolated consistently and evaluated the pathogenicity of N. dimidiatum under laboratory and field conditions. The effect of summer and winter pruning on the disease severity and t

Leaves of Ficus glumosa are used in northern Cameroon and southern Chad for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as food and as a stimulant for milk production in both women and animals. Atherosclerosis is a disease in which frequency increases with age. The first lesions appear at the young subject during adolescence. Atherosclerosis lesions appear very precociously and worsen with age. They interest the levels chronologically aortic, coronary then carotid. Age is a risk factor in that it reflects the exposure time of individual to the other risk factors. The frequency of the atheroscler

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) enhance plant fitness through nutrient mobilization, hormone modulation, and improved tolerance to abiotic stresses. Despite the ecological and agricultural importance of Opuntia ficus-indica, a drought-adapted cactus widely cultivated in arid and semiarid regions, little is known about its rhizosphere microbiota. This study aimed to select culturable rhizobacteria associated with O. ficus-indica, assessing their plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits and identifying strains with potential for improving crop performance under challenging environmental c

Chemical investigation of the whole plant of Ficus variolosa Lindl. ex Benth. led to the discovery of two pairs of previously unreported enantiomers, 1a/1b and 2a/2b, which were separated by chiral HPLC. Their structures were characterised through detailed spectroscopic interpretation, and the stereochemical assignments were achieved by matching the experimental ECD spectra with those calculated at the TDDFT level. Notably, to the best of our knowledge, 2a/2b represents the first enantiomerically resolved example of this type of furocoumarin. The isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory ef

Peripheral nerve injuries result in significant loss of motor and sensory function, and the slow rate of nerve regeneration can prolong recovery time. Thus, approaches that promote axonal regeneration are critical to improve the outcomes for patients with peripheral nerve injuries. In this study, we investigated the effects of Ficus carica L. (fig) and Vaccinium macrocarpon Ait. (cranberry), which are rich in phytochemicals with demonstrable and diverse medicinal properties, on nerve regeneration in a mouse model of sciatic nerve crush. Our investigation revealed that fig extract, but not cran

Turkey is the world's leading producer of figs, a typical Mediterranean fruit. The fig, Ficus carica L. (Moraceae), has been widely cultivated since ancient times due to the nutritional value of its fruits. It was aimed to investigate the phytochemical characterization and biological properties of F. carica leaf extracts in order to determine their potential for use in the treatment of various diseases. F. carica leaves were extracted in 70% methanol at 40 °C under reflux. To obtain extracts of different polarities, the crude extract was fractionated with n-hexane, dichloromethane, and n-butan

According to the alarming statistical analysis of global cancer, there are over 19 million new diagnoses and more than 10 million deaths each year. One such cancer is the oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), which requires new therapeutic strategies. Ficus septica extract has been used in traditional medicine to treat infectious diseases. In this study, we examined the anti-proliferative effects of an extract of F. septica bark (FSB) in OSCC cells. Our results showed that FSB caused a concentration-dependent reduction in the viability of SCC2095 OSCC cells, as determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthia

Prickly pear fruit peel constitutes a high percentage of the fruit and could be a natural, economic agro-industrial waste of potential use in the nutraceutical industry. This study aimed to isolate and characterize the main constituents of the fruit peel and evaluate its antibacterial activity. A methanol extract was successively fractionated using hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate. The n-hexane fraction was evaluated for its fatty acid content using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), revealing linolenic acid (omega-3) as the major fatty acid (60.56%), while an ethyl acetate frac
