Scleroderma, an autoimmune connective tissue disorder, leads to skin and tissue thickening. In this autoimmune disease condition, the defense mechanism works against the body itself and mistakenly attacks normal cells. Ayurveda links it to vatarakta, initially affecting tvak, rakta, and mamsa. Vata is primarily involved, but as the disease progresses, all doshas and dhatu get involved. A 45-year-old woman presented with skin hardening, skin depigmentation all over her body, limb stiffness, weakness, arthralgia, anorexia, constipation and burning in the chest region for the last three years. The exposure to ultraviolet radiations (UVR) is the key source of skin sunburn; it may produce harmful entities, reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to aging. The skin can be treated and protected from the injurious effects of ROS by using various pharmaceutical formulations, such as cream. Cream can be loaded with antioxidants to quench ROS leading to photo-protective effects. Moreover, modern medicines depend on ethnobotanicals for protection or treatment of human diseases. This review article summarizes various in vivo antioxidant studies on herbal creams loaded with phyto-extracts. Thes

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most frequent endocrinopathology affecting women in their reproductive ages. However, PCOS is also related to metabolic abnormalities such as metabolic syndrome (MS), insulin resistance (IR), and type 2 diabetes, among others. Consequently, an inflammatory and pro-oxidative status is also present in these patients, aggravating the syndrome's symptoms. This work aims to discuss some late treatments that focus on oxidative stress (OS) as a central feature related to primary PCOS abnormalities. Therefore, this review focuses on the evidence of anti-o

Campylobacter jejuni is one of the most common bacterial causes of diarrhoea in the industrialized world, being associated with the occurrence of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, and inducing diseases partially through intestinal adherence. With increasing reports of C. jejuni drug resistance against standard antibiotics, investigations into antiadhesive agents for the prevention of bacterial infection are highly significant. Given the consumer-driven development towards holistic and integrative healthcare, research into additional anti-Campylobacter effects of herbal medicines that are already used f

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an auto-immune inflammatory disorder for which an effective cure is yet to be found. Trans-anethole (1-methoxy-4-(1E)-1-propen-1-yl-benzene), a key bioactive compound derived from the perennial plant Foeniculum vulgare, exerts multiple medicinal benefits. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic potential of exosomes derived from anethole-preconditioned human Wharton Jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hWJMSCs) against RA-like inflammation in H2O2-treated synoviocyte HIG-82 cells.
METHODS: The fennel samples were prepared and trans-anethole was

Estragole (ES) is a phenylpropene naturally occurring in various herbs and spices, such as fennel and basil. Humans are exposed to ES via the diet or herbal medicinal products. Following its gastrointestinal resorption, hepatic bioactivation of ES by Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYPs) and sulfotransferases (SULTs) can lead to DNA adduct formation and liver cancer in rodents. Up to now, no data is available on ES-dependent DNA adducts in human tissue, which would however be important for human risk assessment. Our work thus analyzed whether ES-derived DNA adducts are present in human liver s

OBJECTIVES: Primary dysmenorrhea is a leading cause of job and school absenteeism among young females. Despite its high prevalence, contemporary medicine offers limited treatment options. Herbaceous members of the Apiaceae family, such as Pimpinella anisum L., Anethum sowa L., Cuminum cyminum L., and Foeniculum vulgare Mill., are commonly used in traditional medicine to treat primary dysmenorrhea. Currently, there is no comprehensive assessment of their therapeutic efficacy and safety. This study protocol assesses how effective and safe these herbs are in managing primary dysmenorrhea.

The gram-negative bacterium Helicobacter pylori (HP), identified in 1982, is now recognized as the primary etiological factor associated with the development of gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. In addition, HP infections are also associated with chronic gastritis, gastric carcinoma and primary gastric B-cell lymphoma. For centuries, herbals have been used in traditional medicine to treat a wide range of ailments, including gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as dyspepsia, gastritis and peptic ulcer disease (PUD). However, the mechanism of action by which these botanicals exert their therap
