Hypospadias is a common congenital anomaly of the male genitalia requiring surgical correction. During hypospadias repair, there are two broad approaches to deal with prepuce-foreskin reconstruction (FR) and conventional circumcision (CC). While FR preserves and reshapes the dorsal prepuce to mimic the normal appearance, CC involves excision or rearrangement of the prepuce leading to a circumcised appearance. The aim of this study was to present a cohort of men seeking assistance with foreskin reconstruction, with the objective to broaden the general understanding for this specific request. All men between January 2015 and May 2019 seeking assistance with foreskin reconstruction were included. INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: The desire to preserve the prepuce is often based on cultural norms. Recently, the concept of "genital autonomy" has been invoked to delay circumcision (or any genital altering procedure) until the individual reaches maturity and can make his or her own decision. However, some uncircumcised boys develop one or more episodes of balanitis resulting in scarring of the prepuce and pathologic phimosis which is difficult to treat. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is well recognized as a causative agent for anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers, however, the biology of HPV infection at different mucosal locations, specifically the oral cavity, is not well understood. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence and genotypes of high-risk human papilloma virus (HPV) infection of the foreskin in asymptomatic boys before first sexual intercourse.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We collected 50 consecutive foreskin specimens after radical circumcision. Indication for surgery was phimosis. High-risk HPV status was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction for the genotypes 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, and 59. Immunohistochemistry for p16(INK4a) was performed.

We investigated the usefulness of one-stage urethroplasty by the parameatal foreskin flap method (OUPF procedure), which is useful for repairing all types of hypospadias. Haemophilus ducreyi is the etiologic agent of the localized genital ulcer disease known as chancroid. The pathogenesis of this organism is poorly understood. The role of attachment in the disease process has not been evaluated. In this study, 125I-H. ducreyi was used to quantitatively evaluate the interaction of virulent and avirulent H. ducreyi strains with human foreskin cells. Using this in vitro model system, we demonstrated that, at 22 and 35 degrees C, the attachment of virulent H. ducreyi 35000 to human foreskin cells was significantly more marked than that of avirulent H. ducreyi A77.

During the one-stage repair of hypospadias the blood flow of the parameatal-based foreskin flap was measured in 30 patients by using laser Doppler velocimetry. The mean blood flow in the penile foreskin was estimated to be 15 ml/min/100 g and it increased to 150-200% after the induction of anesthesia, and then decreased to 72% at the tip of the created parameatal foreskin flap. We studied whether arsenic, nickel, and chromium compounds that are human carcinogens could induce transformation of cultured primary human diploid foreskin cells (HFC). All nickel compounds tested, PbCrO4, K2Cr2O7, CrO3, Na2HAsO4, NaAsO2, and N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) caused significant (p = 0.001) dose-dependent inductions of anchorage-independent colonies in HFC. KH2AsO4, CaCl2, MnCl2, and Hg(CH3CO2)2 did not induce anchorage independence.
