We analyzed susceptibility to anidulafungin of yeasts clinical strains of Candida (14 species), Cryptococcus (1 species), Geotrichum (1 species), Rhodotorula (1 species) and Saccharomyces (1 species). We revealed high anidulafungin activity against Candida spp., both common species and rare pathogens of candidiasis. It was found that over 99 % of Candida strains do not have an acquired resistance mechanisms to anidulafungin (microbiological criteria). The anidulafungin is not active against strains of Cryptococcus neoformans and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa.

An acetophenone reductase from Geotrichum candidum (GcAPRD) was immobilized by the organic-inorganic nanocrystal method. The GcAPRD nanocrystal presented improved stability and recyclability compared with those of the free GcAPRD. Moreover, the GcAPRD nanocrystal reduced broad kinds of ketones with excellent enantioselectivities to produce beneficial chiral alcohols such as (S)-1-(3',4'-dichlorophenyl)ethanol with >99% yield and >99% ee. The robust and versatile properties of the GcAPRD nanocrystal demonstrated an approach to promote green asymmetric synthesis and sustainable chemistry.

BACKGROUND: Data on the risk factors and outcome of intra-abdominal fungal infections (IAFI) following simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (PKT) are scarce.
MATERIALS/METHODS: A retrospective monocentric study was conducted on all patients who underwent simultaneous PKT from January 2007 to December 2016. In the period of 1982-1988 mycological examinations were carried out on 4,657 patients suspected of having dermatomycoses. A 37-year-old patient with acute nonlymphatic leukemia developed gastrointestinal phycomycosis during failure in bone marrow production. The clinical presentation was of acute typhlitis. Laparotomy revealed a necrotic mass in the region of the iliocecal valve, and on histologic examination hyphae of phycomycetes with invasion of the blood vessels were seen. The patient died as a result of widespread infection.

We have made quantitative bacterial and fungal culture for 148 biopsy specimens from burn patients. Further confirmation was made by frozen section with PAS stain in 82 of the specimens. It was discovered that the fungal infections in these burn patients were characterized by early onset with multiple organisms. It was also found that the incidence of fungal infections was higher in severe burns. Two rare cases of fungal infection were discovered, one of them was infected by Geotrichum SP, and the patient died; the other an infection by Homodendrum SP on the face, and the finally recovered.

Unusual fungi, encountered infrequently in practice, present a significant diagnostic challenge, leading to potential delays in diagnosis and treatment. OBJECTIVES: Using registry data to compare fungaemia caused by uncommon yeast species (UYS; i.e. other than Candida albicans , Candida glabrata , Candida parapsilosis , Candida tropicalis and Candida krusei ) and C. albicans -related fungaemia can reveal specific predisposing factors of UYS with potential impact on treatment strategies.
METHODS: We analysed 338 episodes of UYS fungaemia prospectively collected from 27 hospitals (Paris, France; 1 October 2002-31 December 2014) and compared these with 1998 single episodes of C. albicans fungaemia using univariate and multivariate analyses.
