Changes in the self-rated well-being of people who move from congregated settings to personalized arrangements and group home placements.

A natural experiment contrasted the self-rated well-being of people with intellectual disabilities ( n = 75) and those with enduring mental health problems ( n = 44) after they moved to new accommodation and support options, while others remained in congregated settings or living in the family home. Most support staff also provided well-being ratings. In personalized arrangements, personal well-being was significantly higher than in congregated settings; particularly for people with intellectual disability who had higher support needs compared to people with mental health problems. Moving to a

Healthy elderly French women living at home have secondary hyperparathyroidism and high bone turnover in winter. EPIDOS Study Group.

It was recently demonstrated that calcium and vitamin D supplements were capable of decreasing the incidence of hip fractures in institutionalized elderly subjects through a reduction of senile secondary hyperparathyroidism. As there are no appropriate data to recommend such a supplement to the elderly living at home, the aim of this study was to determine the incidence of senile secondary hyperparathyroidism in old French women from the general community, its relation to vitamin D status, and its contribution to bone turnover. Four hundred and forty women, aged 75-90 yr, were randomly selecte

Testing Interventions for Mobility through Exercise (TIME): Study protocol for a randomized trial comparing a novel, brief home-based exercise program and a standard home-based group exercise for older adults with mobility disability.

One in four older adults report difficulty walking, greatly increasing the risk of future disability and death. Though exercise improves mobility, too few older adults do it. While studies show that brief exercise sessions provide most of the benefit of longer sessions and that older adults note that "time" is a critical barrier to being active, what remains unknown is whether briefer RT sessions can improve mobility as well as, or better than, longer traditional sessions, possibly due to greater adherence. We present the design of a 12-month randomized controlled trial of 700 older adults wit

Associations between Cooking at Home and Nutrient and Food Group Intake among Female University Students: A Cross-Sectional Analysis on Living Arrangements.

This cross-sectional study examined the association between cooking frequency and nutrient and food group intake among female university students with different living arrangements in Japan. Nutrient and food group intakes were assessed using a validated, brief, self-administered diet history questionnaire. Cooking frequency was measured using a single question on a five-point scale. The questionnaire also asked about living arrangements. Of the 91 respondents, 75 females were analyzed. Regarding cooking frequency, cooking at least 1-2 days a week was classified as cooking, and the "cooking ye

Understanding the Value of a Proactive Telecare System in Supporting Older Adults' Independence at Home: Qualitative Interview Study Among Key Interest Groups.

BACKGROUND: Telecare is claimed to support people to live in their own homes for longer by providing monitoring services that enable responses to emergencies at home. Although most telecare technologies commissioned in the United Kingdom predominantly supply reactive services, there has been recent interest among policy makers to develop proactive telecare services to provide additional understanding of older adults' health and well-being needs to provide a means for more preventive interventions. Proactive telecare refers to providing regular well-being calls or encouraging users to regularly

Analysis of Individual Mouse Activity in Group Housed Animals of Different Inbred Strains using a Novel Automated Home Cage Analysis System.

Central nervous system disorders such as autism as well as the range of neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's disease are commonly investigated using genetically altered mouse models. The current system for characterizing these mice usually involves removing the animals from their home-cage environment and placing them into novel environments where they undergo a battery of tests measuring a range of behavioral and physical phenotypes. These tests are often only conducted for short periods of times in social isolation. However, human manifestations of such disorders are often charact

Coupling of metal containing homing devices to liposomes via a maleimide linker: use of TCEP to stabilize thiol-groups without scavenging metals.

Liposomes for drug delivery are often prepared with maleimide groups on the distal end of PEG to enable coupling of homing devices, such as antibodies, or other proteins. EDTA is used to stabilize the thiol group in the homing device for attachment to the maleimide. However, when using a homing device that contains a metal, EDTA inactivates this by scavenging of the metal. Holo-transferrin (Tf) containing two iron atoms (Fe(3+)), has a much higher affinity for the Tf receptor than apo-Tf (which does not contain any Fe(3+)). To couple Tf to a liposome, the introduction of a thiol group is neces

"Staying at home" to tackle COVID-19 pandemic: rhetoric or reality? Cross-cutting analysis of nine population groups vulnerable to homelessness in Japan.

Although the "stay-at-home" order is advocated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the lives of individuals lacking adequate housing are threatened. We developed a framework to assess various populations with unstable housing in terms of socio-economic consequences of COVID-19, risk of COVID-19 infection and progression, existing/urgent measures, and remaining challenges. Within the framework, nine groups vulnerable to homelessness in Japan were classified into (i) "people without accommodation," (ii) "people living in temporary or crisis accommodation," and (iii) populations that

Utilising Group-Size and Home-Range Characteristics of Free-Roaming Dogs (FRD) to Guide Mass Vaccination Campaigns against Rabies in India.

Adequate vaccination coverage of free roaming dogs (FRD) against canine rabies is not achieved primarily due to difficulties in administering parenteral vaccinations to this population. One factor associated with this difficulty is the tendency of FRD to form groups, which increases their aggressive behavior, resulting in a significant risk of dog-bites for the vaccinators. This study investigated factors that influenced FRD forming groups and their home-ranges, using data obtained from photographic capture-recapture/sight-resight surveys conducted in rural Shirsuphal (584 sightings) and urban

Using women advocacy groups to enhance knowledge and home management of febrile convulsion amongst mothers in a rural community of Sokoto State, Nigeria.

INTRODUCTION: Febrile convulsions (FC) are a common paediatric problem worldwide. Between 1 and 4% of children will have a febrile convulsion with about 4% of cases arising before the age of six months. Although FC is benign and does not cause death, brain damage or learning disorders, it is quite frightening to observers and parents who witness an episode of FC, would think the child is going to die. METHODS: This was a quasi-experimental study (a pre and post-test interventional, one group), aimed at assessing the impact of health education on knowledge and home management of febrile convul

Home blood pressure: variability, comparison with office readings and proposal for reference values. Groupe de la Mesure, French Society of Hypertension.

PURPOSE: A multicentre study was performed on 390 healthy subjects (210 male, 180 female) to evaluate home blood pressure versus office blood pressure. METHODS: The patients, aged 20-59 years, not on antihypertensive treatment, were not preselected by blood pressure levels. Blood pressure was measured in the doctor's office, using a mercury manometer at the fifth, sixth and seventh minute of rest, and at home by self-measurement using a validated electronic oscillometric device at the fifth, sixth and seventh minute of rest, in the morning and evening, on three consecutive days. Impact of hypothermia alert device (BEMPU) on improvement of duration of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) provided at home: parallel-group randomized control trial.

The objective of the study was to determine if using the hypothermia-detecting bracelet (named BEMPU) improves the duration of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) at home by one hour. This parallel-group randomized controlled trial was conducted at a step-down nursery of a teaching hospital. Neonates between 1000 and 2000 g were randomized to BEMPU and control groups at the time of discharge. BEMPU was applied at the wrist of each newborn in the BEMPU (intervention) group. Working from home during COVID-19 in a Danish hospital research setting: experiences of researchers and healthcare providers, explored by Group Concept Mapping.

OBJECTIVES: The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the working environment, how we think of it and how it stands to develop into the future. Knowledge about how people have continued to work on-site and adjusted to working from home during the COVID-19 lockdown will be vital for planning work arrangements in the post-pandemic period. Our primary objective was to investigate experiences of working from home or having colleagues working from home during a late stage of the COVID-19 lockdown among researchers and healthcare providers in a hospital research setting. Second, we aimed to investigate rese
